Exodus

Chapter 7

{Note: In Hebrew style of writing, the summary is given FIRST, then the details. So, in this Chapter we will be given the details about the meeting of Moses, Aaron and the Pharaoh.}

1~~And Jehovah/God said unto Moses,
"See, I have made you an 'elohiym/godhead to Pharaoh.

And Aaron, your brother, shall be your
'prophet- communicator for God' {nabiy'}."

{Note: From II Samuel 15:27, we see that ra'ah is one of the three Hebrew words for 'prophet'. A ra'ah type prophet receives communication from God and writes scripture. RBT says 'Zadok' is most likely the writer of II Samuel, II Kings, II Chronicles . . . finishing the work of Samuel after his death. (The other two types of "prophets" are nabiy' which was a prophet similar to a pastor teacher in the Church Age - he taught doctrine from the written word (that is used here for Aaron). The last type was the "chozeh" . He received communication directly from God but it was only for the people of that day - his communication did not become part of the written word that lives and abides forever and ever.}

{Note: Moses tried to get out of talking to the Pharaoh so he was 'saying' he was a poor public speaker (he was probably the best of his day!). So, God then tweaked Moses by making Aaron His 'mouthpiece' until Moses could take it no longer and started talking to Pharaoh himself!}

2 "You shall speak all who I command you.

And Aaron, your brother,
shall speak unto Pharaoh . . .
that he send the children of Israel out of his land. 3

And I will harden Pharaoh's heart,
and multiply My signs and My wonders
in the land of Egypt. 4

But Pharaoh shall not listen/hearken unto you,
that I may lay my hand upon Egypt,
and bring forth my armies,
and My people, the children of Israel,
out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5

And the Egyptians shall know that I . . . {am} Jehovah/God,
when I stretch forth My hand upon Egypt,
and bring out the children of Israel from among them."

6 And Moses and Aaron did . . .
as Jehovah/God commanded them . . . so did they.

7 And Moses was fourscore years old {80 years old},
and Aaron fourscore and three years old {83 years old},
when they spoke unto Pharaoh.

8 And Jehovah/God spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 9
"When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying,
'Show a miracle for you."

Then you shall say unto Aaron,
'Take your staff/rod, and cast it before Pharaoh,
and it shall become a serpent.' "

10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh,
and they did so as Jehovah/God had commanded.

And Aaron cast down his staff/rod before Pharaoh,
 and before his servants,
and it became a serpent.

11 Then Pharaoh also called the 'wise men'/
shrewd/cunning {chakam}
and the sorcerers . . .
now the magicians of Egypt . . .
they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

12 For they cast down every man his staff/rod,
and they became serpents . . .
but Aaron's staff/rod swallowed up their staffs/rods.

13 And He hardened Pharaoh's heart . . .
that he listened/hearkened not unto them . . .
as Jehovah/God had said.

14 And Jehovah/God said unto Moses,
"Pharaoh's heart is hardened.

He refuses to let the people go. 15

Get you unto Pharaoh in the morning.

Lo, he goes out unto the water;
and you shall stand by the river's brink until/against he comes
and the staff/rod which was turned to a serpent
shall you take in your hand.

16 And you shall say unto him,
"Jehovah/God . . . 'Elohiym/Godhead of the Hebrews
has sent me unto you, saying,
"Let My people go,
that they may serve Me in the desert.

And, behold, 'to this point'/hitherto you would not hear."

17 Thus said Jehovah/God,
"In this you shall know that I . . . {am} Jehovah/God.

Behold, I will smite with the staff/rod
that is in my hand upon the waters
which are in the river,
and they shall be turned to blood. 18

And the fish that are in the river shall die,
and the river shall stink.

And the Egyptians shall loathe to drink of the water of the river."

19 And Jehovah/God spoke unto Moses,
"Say unto Aaron,
'Take your staff/rod,
and stretch out your hand upon the waters of Egypt,
upon their streams,
upon their rivers,
and upon their ponds,
and upon all their pools of water,
that they may become blood.
And that there may be blood
throughout all the land of Egypt . . .
both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone."

20 And Moses and Aaron did so . . .
as Jehovah/God commanded.

And he lifted up the staff/rod,
and struck/smote the waters
that were in the river,
in the sight of Pharaoh,
and in the sight of his servants . . .
and all the waters that were in the river
were turned to blood.

{Note: It is important to notice that God gave a specific command- strike the water - and Moses and Aaron followed that command exactly. Later on God will tell Moses to speak to the rock and he will strike it instead. It is important to listen carefully and follow God's commands for us as exactly as possible.}

21 And the fish that were in the river died.

And the river stank,
and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river.

And there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.

22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments.

And Pharaoh's heart was hardened . . .
neither did he listen/hearken unto them . . .
as Jehovah/God had said.

23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house . . .
neither did he set his heart to this also.

24 And all the Egyptians dug round about
the river for water to drink . . .
for they could not drink of the water of the river.

25 And seven days were fulfilled.

After that, Jehovah/God had smitten the river.
