II Thessalonians
Chapter
3 {Note: Thessalonians were very relaxed and responsive to Paul's teaching. Paul is commanding these mature believers to pray for his ministry/'correct doctrinal teaching' be accepted elsewhere as it is accepted with them. In all of this, the Word - which is a possession of the Lord - will also be glorified. Praying for the pastor is a bone fide thing.}
2~~And
for the purpose that {Note: Pistis has two meanings - 'to believe in something' as in 'Faith in Christ' and 'that which is believed'. Bible doctrine is that which is believed. Both uses are in view here. Reversionists are missing doctrine. Unbelievers are missing Faith in Christ.}
3~~But
the Lord {Note: Pistos is the adjective related to Pistis and it means to inspire trust, dependable, an object of full confidence, faithful and/or reliable - all are in view here.}
4~~And
we have {Note: 'Paraggello' is used as in a lengthy command. This is a command with lots of parts to it like a 5-paragraph field order in the Army. The enemy is here. Your support will be here. Your troops are to go here. And, the attack is to being at 0700. This is more then just a command to Come to Attention! It is to give a command in a categorical fashion.}
5~~And
the Lord [Note: Doctrine in your frame of reference, doctrine in your memory storage, doctrine in your vocabulary storage . . . all lead to the categorical storage of doctrines in the launching pad of the mentality. Doctrine in the human soul increasingly builds the edification complex of the soul one 'brick' at a time. Maximum Doctrine in the mentality of the soul . . . the largely completed Edification Complex of the Soul . . . indicates a mature believer. The first characteristic of mature status is knowing how great God is and how little you are in comparison. This creates what we call 'humility'. Then you are beginning to really love God. You first love Him based on who and what you are. Eventually you learn about Him and grow to love Him based on Who and What He is (phileo).}
{Verses
6-11: Attitude toward reversionistic believers}
7~~For
you yourselves know [oida] [Note: A believer can imitate Christ and use His Divine Viewpoint or imitate those who operate on human viewpoint or as Paul calls it "being fleshly". Paul followed Christ. And, he is telling the Thessalonians (and us) that we are to follow him in his imitation of Christ. The Bible is the Mind of Christ. We are to learn and apply His Divine Viewpoint.]
8~~Neither
did we eat any one's bread
9~~Absolutly
not [ouk] {Note: Even though as an apostle, Paul could take an offering, he did not so the Thessalonians were not confused. Summary of 3 principals being taught here: 1) Paul did not take advantage of them when he was in Thessalonica 2) Paul did not mooch off of them and 3) Paul imitated Christ. Now you should imitate these things.}
10~~For
even when we were face to face [pros] with you, [Note: "Ei tis" followed later by "mede" means " if any . . . this; then neither . . . that".] {Note: Communism, socialism, etc. is out per the Word. There IS a place for charity under bible doctrines, but there is no place for just giving food etc. to people who just do not want to work.}
[Paul's
Pun] {Note: In the Greek is a play on words - not busy (ergazomai) with work, but 'busy going around work' (periergazomai) or intruding in the affairs of others - a busybody. Principal of 'Live and let live' . . . keep your nose out of the business of others.}
{Epilog} {Note: Paul is telling the busybodies to stop maligning and sucking in false concepts like 'selling their business and sitting and waiting for the rapture' . . . go to work and do so quietly . . . study and work and eat in quiet. Get back in line - get under the authority of your pastor/teacher in bible study and your boss in the work place and stop being insubordinate . . . work peacefully, and eat from the results of your own labors.}
{All
Labor should be done - As Unto the Lord} {Note: Laziness leads to being discouraged and becoming despondent. Idleness leads to sticking your nose in the business of others. Do your job/function in life as unto the Lord. ALL work done in the filling of the Holy Spirit is a VITAL function as a member of the Royal Family of God and it is NOBLE. Don't consider it inconsequential! God doesn't!}
14~~And
if any one absolutely obey not [ouk] {Note: Make a mental tag on troublemakers and avoid them. Shame is the antithesis of having nobility. This is one way the Lord is 'knocking at the door'. You need to separate yourself. But you should do this without hostility or evil thinking or judging which all are sins on your part - which would hinder YOUR advancement. Then maybe the reversionist will recognize what is happening, come to his senses, and get back on the path to spiritual maturity - change his Ways.}
15~~Do
not [me] conclude/deem [hegeomai]
16a~~Now
the Lord of Tranquility/Peace [eirene] 16b~~The Lord . . . [be] with you all. {Note: Tranquility in the soul precedes happiness. It means you are now qualified for true happiness. It is God's personal desire for all believers to have the capacity for Him to bless everyone of us - that is when God pours.} {Note: As a believer you are always indwelled by God the Holy Spirit. On the road to maturity, you are also indwelled by Jesus Christ. In reversionism, Christ is outside of you - knocking at the door!}
{Closing
salutation}
18a~~The
grace [charis] . . .
{Note:
This closing verse actually is a restatement of the
