II Corinthians

1~~I
could wish
{heavy sarcasm}
you
would keep on being a little patient with me
because
you love me . . .
regarding
a little {little of quality} of my foolishness . . .
but
also keep on being patient with me,
now
. . . because you love me.
{Note: Paul is using sarcasm pertaining to the right pastor/teacher to right congregation relationship. He is their right pastor and they SHOULD love him, but they really have turned from him to false teachers in 'reverse process reversionism'.}
2~~For
I keep on being
"jealous
over"/"devoted to" {zeloo} you
with
an ardor/deep love and jealousy from God . . .
for
I have given you in marriage to one Noble Man {Christ},
that
I may place you at His disposal . . .
a
chaste/pure virgin . . . to Christ {directional}.
{Note: Paul first discusses the local church where he is their right pastor/teacher and they should respond to his teaching. Next he moves to the Universal Church (all in Union with Christ) where the Church is the bride to be and Christ is the Husband or Noble Man. By listening to the false teachers, in effect the Corinthians have been unfaithful to Paul and to Christ.}
3~~But,
in contrast
{'a pure virgin' compared with 'a believer in reversionism'},
I
fear for you,
lest
in any way,
as
the serpent
'faked
out'/'thoroughly deceived'/cheated Eve
by
means of his 'pseudo-wisdom'/'evil cunning',
so
your minds
{noema - as with cardia refers to the right lobe of the brain-
thoughts, intellect}
should
be seduced
and
corrupted
from
the integrity of doctrine
and
purity of life
toward
Christ.
{Note: Adam with the right authority of Eve and Satan attacked that authority by deceiving Eve. In this analogy, Paul is the right authority over the Corinthians and therefore, Satan attacked the ones under authority - the Corinthians.}
4~~For
if
-
and it is true -
the
ones coming
{Judaizers - false teachers}
publicly
communicate another
{allos - of a different application}
of
the same kind of Jesus
{same historical man, but surrounded with legalism} . . .
whom
we have not publicly taught . . .
or
if you receive another of a different kind
{heteros - of a different kind}
of
personality/spirit
{changed personalities under the Judaizers false teaching}
which
you had not received,
or
a different kind of gospel which you had not welcomed . . .
you
patiently endure {anechomai} them honorably.
{Note:
Anechomai means to bear with or endure someone you love or
pseudo-love. They are enamoured with the false teaches and show them
'love' but reject their right teacher - Paul - with mean criticisms
of his appearance and speaking style etc. Analogous with when a right
man or woman commits adultery 'to get back' at their
spouse
. . . who is their right person - but hurt them somehow. Paul wrote
I Corinthians and in anger they turned to false teachers.)
5~~For

dogmatically
conclude myself
not
to be inferior to one of the 'super' apostles.
{the self-proclaimed GREAT legalistic and false teachers - the
Judaizers}
{Note: In context here, we can see Paul is responding to his critics who attacked his authority over the Corinthian church. They said, yes, Paul is an apostle, but we are 'over him' in authority or super apostles. These were the false teachers NOT the other true apostles.}
6~~For
if I also . . .
'crude
in the sphere of speech'
-
and I am -
yet
not . . . in the sphere of knowledge
{gnosis -able to put thoughts into words they can understand}
but,
in contrast,
in
the sphere of all {doctrine} . . .
having
made known by all means
{types of language even crudities}
-
for your benefit.
{Note: the Judaizers were good public speakers and impressed the Greeks with their classical Greek language . . . but they had nothing true to say . . . though they said nothing eloquently. Paul gave them the straight scoop in straight and sometimes crude speech. He offended the 'legalist' Corinthians who thought his language 'not Christian'.}
7~~For
did I do a sin
{more sarcasm}
in
humbling myself
for
the purpose that you might be elevated
{to spiritual privilege}
because
I have preached to you
-
for your advantage -
the
'good news'/gospel
which
belongs to God . . . gratis {no charge}?
{Note: Paul 'humbled' himself in two ways: 1) He became a tent maker - which for a pastor-teacher is humbling because he should be studying and teaching 2) He did not brag to them about his credentials. Others were saying Paul did not charge them for his messages because they were not worth anything. THEY knew Pharisees who taught them the circumcision ritual etc. Paul did not know how to do this they lied. BUT Paul did not take a donation from the Corinthian Church - though they were a rich congregation - BECAUSE he did not believe they were able to take in doctrine yet and money would only cloud the issue - to their disadvantage.}

'robbed' {sulao}
other
of the same kind of churches . . .
having
seized
little
pennies of wages {opsonion}
for
the purpose of face to face service to you.
{Note: Sulao means to rob the dead - as in corpses on a battlefield. The irony here is Paul accepted money from the Macedonians who were so poor they were near dead - to preach to the rich church in Corinth. Opsonion means the wage of a Roman private for one day - only a few pennies.}
9~~And
being present face to face with you all . . .
and
having run short of money . . .
I
was not a burden to any one!
{not a burden financially to any of the Corinthians}
For
my deficiency,
the
brethren
having
come from the ultimate source of Macedonia {Philippi} supplied those
deficiencies again and again . . . face to face.
And
in the sphere of all things
{doctrinal communications},
I
have guarded what belongs to me
{the Corinthian Congregation}
from
being burdened
-
to your advantage -
and
I will guard myself {in the future}.
{Note: The Church of Philippi was a very mature church and was a great financial support for Paul. Philippians is a 'love letter' from Paul to this mature church encouraging them to keep following Paul to the highest levels of spiritual maturity.}

categorical doctrine {aletheia}
which
belongs to Christ
keeps
on being in me . . .
therefore
this act of glorying/boasting
{Paul talking about doctrine in his soul}
'shall
not be obstructed'/'shall not be fenced in'/'shall not be silenced'
with reference to me
in
the regions of Achaia.
{South Greece -where Corinth was}
{Note: Aletheia means the embodiment of knowledge, truth or doctrine. The Word is the mind of Christ and you can not separate a person from this mind. To love Christ Person, you must love doctrine. If you do not love doctrine, you can not truly love Christ.}
11~~Because why?
Because I do not love you?
The God knows it!
{Note: God knows the thoughts and intents of the heart. God knows Paul loves his right congregation . . . based on who and what Paul is (imitation of Christ - Who loves us based on Who He is). Paul loves and is faithful to his congregation. It is they that are unfaithful to HIM in listening to the false doctrines being taught to them by the legalists.}

what I am doing
{teaching by sarcasm} . . .
I
will keep on doing {!} . . .
for
the purpose that
I
may 'cut off'/remove/prevent
the
occasion/opportunity
of
those wishing
{false teachers desire from their emotional pattern}
for
an opportunity/occasion . . .
for
the {additional} purpose that
in
what they themselves keep on boasting/glorying,
they
may be discovered
{for what they really are} . . .
even
as we.
{for what we really are}.
{Note: A social teaser is one who wants your attention but is not really interested in YOU. Paul says the legalistic teachers are like this. The false teachers boast about their ability to follow the Mosaic Law and ability to raise money because of their great abilities! This is a case of the 'wrong man' (false teachers) bragging that they get a better love response from Paul's right woman (Corinthian congregation) than the love response Paul himself received (they are angry with Paul and Paul took no offering from them).}
13~~
For such as these
{false teachers}
are
false apostles,
deceitful
artisans/workers,
disguising/masquerading
themselves
as
apostles of Christ.
{Note: These false teachers claim authority in the church. But they are 'phony authorities' and false teachers of the Word. They deceive the people with false/Satanic Doctrines. They were working to change the Corinthians like an artist does with a painting - Corinth was a center of art so they would understand the concept.}
14~~And,
no wonder,
for
even Satan disguises/masquerades himself
as
an angel of light.
{Note: Satan pretends to be an angel with true doctrine. Light is an analogy to doctrine. Doctrine in your soul builds the edification complex of the soul and reflects the Glory of the Lord. Satan is trying to glorify himself.}
15~~Therefore
{in consequence},
it
is not surprising
if
his servants also
disguise
themselves as ministers of righteousness
-
and they do -
the
end of whom
shall
be according to their human production/works/deeds.
{Note: As Satan tries to make himself 'like the Most High', his followers masquerade as followers of God.}
16~~I
keep on saying again and again,
"Let
no one presume me to be a fool/ignorant."
But,
if otherwise,
-
and you do -
even
as a fool . . .
welcome
me with open arms
{give me a hearing} . . .
for
the purpose that,
I
also may boast a little.
{this is deep sarcasm}
{Note: The Judaizers were boasting about themselves and saying Paul was ignorant of Jewish traditions, etc. Paul says well at least give me a hearing so I also may boast about myself . . . all in sarcasm.}
17~~What
I communicate {about boasting} . . .
not
according to the norm or standards {example}
of
the Lord do I communicate . . .
but
as by means of foolishness . . .
by
means of this assumption {hupostasis}
of
the function of boasting.
{Note: Paul is saying boasting is NOT an authorized thing for Christians to do. Jesus never stooped to the level of his audience while in his on Earth. But, Paul is using sarcasm to get the point across to the Corinthians about the foolishness of the people that they are listening to and holding in high regard. He does not want to boast and did not do so in the past, but under the direction of God the Holy Spirit, he must do so here.}
{Note: Hupostasis means to take on something you are not - so Paul will take on 'boasting' to show how foolish the legalists are. This word is also where we get the 'hypostatic union' of Christ where His deity takes on what makes Him different from the other Persons of the God-Head - true humanity.}
18~~Since
many
{the legalistic Judaizers}
boast
according to human norms {the flesh} . . .
I
will boast also.
19~~For
you keep on tolerating
with
pleasure/pseudo-love . . .
fools
. . .
constantly
'being wise' yourselves!
{Sarcasm -in reversionism, they regard themselves wise.}
{Note: The KJV says ' for you suffer fools gladly'. Paul is really saying they are occupied with the celebrities who are legalistic Judaizers. These people win other's attention with their personalities and being 'well known people'. Same thing happens today. Anyway, there people were going around making Taboo's and their own personality the issue - forget grace . . . see how great am I . . . boasting and goes on with the rest of the sentence explaining the wages you receive in reversionism.}
