John

Chapter 5 - Continued
{True Doctrine of Kenosis}
30~~"I {Jesus} . . . Myself . . .
am not able to do anything
from the ultimate source of Myself.
As I keep on hearing, I keep on obeying {akouo}
  {meaning 'what I hear the Father say to do, I obey'} . . .
I judge . . . and My judgment is righteous.
Because I seek not My Own will . . .
but the will of the Father Who sent Me."

{Note: This is the true doctrine of Kenosis. Jesus Christ did not give up any characteristics of His Deity in the incarnation. Instead, from His own volition, He agreed to submit to the plan of the Father and operate within that plan. This is the same prototype for us today. We are to operate within the plan of the Father - under the guidance of the filling of the Holy Spirit.}

{Note: It was the will of the Father, that the Son would be the judge at the final judgment. Since the plan was perfect, all things within that plan are perfect. Therefore Jesus' judgment will also be perfect and therefore righteous.}

{Note: Akouo is used throughout this passage and throughout the New Testament. For example, in Revelation 1:3 we read, 'Happinesses to him who 'hears and obeys' the words of this prophecy'. It means more than to 'hear'. It means to hear and obey what is heard.}

31~~"If I {Jesus} bear witness of Myself -
maybe I will, maybe I will not
  {the potential is there, but Jesus will not fail}-
My witness is not true."

{Note: Per Deuteronomy 17:6 - the principal is that it takes two to three witnesses for the testimony to be accepted as true.}

{Note: Jesus did not use His deity independently of the Father's Will/Plan. He knew what the religious crowd was thinking. He knew from His deity that they wanted to kill Him in his humanity, but He doesn't leave. He finishes His message according to the Father's Will. He never operated on His own will, but always in the operating assets of the Father, in the Plan of God. He did not operate based on what He knew about man, but on the power of the Holy Spirit, in his humanity. So, reading the hearts of others did not call for action, but only what the Father told Jesus to do.}

{Verses 32-36: The First of Many Witnesses to Jesus being the Christ}
32~~"There keeps on existing
Another of the same kind {God the Holy Spirit}
Who keeps on bearing witness {martureo} of Me.
I know that the 'witness' which He witnesses of Me is true/doctrine."

{Note: 'Martureo' is the Greek word from which we get martyr. Originally people who communicated the truth in the form of witnessing, were killed for their efforts. The Greek word actually meant to be a witness like in a trial - it takes two or three witnesses in court to be effective. Jesus will have six witnesses.}

{Note: The Witnesses - God the Holy Spirit: Scriptures:
  1.Old Testament - Isaiah 11:2-3; 42:1; 61:1-2
  2.Given without measure - John 3:34
  3.Baptism - Matthew16; Luke 3:16; 4:14, 15, 18
  4.Miracles - Matthew 12:18; 18:28
  5.Three hours on the Cross - Psalms 22:1; Matthew. 27:46
  6.Resurrection - Romans 8:11; I Peter 3:18 }

{John the Herald's Ministry As the Second Witness - The Herald of the King}
33~~ "You and only you {religious leaders} . . .
'have sent an official delegate' {apostello}
to John {the Herald/Baptizer},
and he has born witness {martureo} to the truth/doctrine
  {in view the doctrine pertaining to Jesus Christ being Messiah}."

{Note: Apostello means to send an official delegation. The religious crowd sent a delegation to see why people were flocking to John. They 'heard' the truth/'gospel message', but rejected it. They were impressed with the power of the message, but not the content.}

34~~"I {Jesus} am not sustained from the testimony
from the immediate source of man {John the Herald/Baptizer} . . .
but these things I say . . .
for the purpose that you might receive salvation in an instant in time
  {aorist tense - point of time perpetuated forever}."

{Note: Jesus is saying here, "I am not sustained by John's message - doctrine sustained Jesus. Doctrine sustains itself. We don't sustain doctrine. Doctrine sustains us. Jesus is telling the religious leaders that He knows they want the power and dynamics of John, but they don't want it's content. They are impressed with the power of the message, but reject its truth.}

35~~"That {special} one {John the Herald to the King}
was a burning {kaio} . . .
and shining {phaino} lamp.
And you were 'emotionally but not objectively willing' {thelo}
- for a period of time -
to celebrate in his light."

{Note: Kaio means to burn in the soul, on the inside, not seen. To become consumed with fire from the teaching of the Holy Spirit and doctrine.}

{Note: Phaino is the outside production when the inside fire/doctrine is applied to experience in life - then it is manifested as 'good of intrinsic value' or 'divine good'.}

{Note: Thelo is the Greek word for an emotional response NOT an objective thinking response.}

{Note: This verse indicates the religious crowd was emotionally involved with the power demonstrated by John the Baptist, but were not mentally involved with the content of his message. The religious crowd did not become involved with the message in the mentality of the soul. They were negative to the content of the message. Their emotion admires the power of the Spirit . . . so is attracted to the message for a time . . . because of John's 'brightness'. But they reject the message's content, so after a time reject the witnesses given by God, as well.}

{Note: Witness of John the Baptist - Scriptures:
  1.Behold the Lamb of God - John 1:29
  2.Repent/Change your mind - Matthew 3:2
  3.Believe on Jesus - Acts 19:4
  4.He must increase. I must decrease - John 3:30; John 3:36}

{Third witness: The Miracles of Jesus}
36~~"But the witness which I {Jesus}
have keeps on being 'greater in number'
than John's {John the Herald/Baptizer}.
For the 'divine good productions' {ergon}
which the Father has given Me {in eternity past}
to finish/accomplish/complete.
The same 'divine good productions' that I keep on doing . . .
these keep on bearing witness of Me . . .
that the Father has sent Me."

{Note: The miracles of Jesus focus attention on the message of the gospel. And the works are 'greater' than John the Baptist in that they are more distinguished . . . more intense . . . and more numerous in manifestation. It does not disparage the ministry of John the Baptizer - it is just that Jesus' ministry is greater - as John also told us.}

{Note: Ergon means works or production. When it is accomplished under the filling of the Holy Spirit it means 'divine good production'. When it is done under the 'energy of the flesh' it is translated 'human works' or just 'works'. All human works/righteousnesses are 'wood, hay and stubble' and thereby - worthlessnesses/evil/'menstrual rags' in the sight of the Lord.}

{Fourth witness: God the Father}
37~~"And the Father Himself,
Who has 'sent Me for an official purpose' {apostello},
has testified/witnessed concerning Me {Jesus}.
You have neither heard His voice at any time,
nor perceived in your mind {horao} His form."

{Note: Using the same word as above - apostello - Jesus is telling the legalistic/religious leaders that THEY sent a delegation to John the Baptizer, but God the Father sent Him as the official delegation to mankind . . . as savior of the world.}

{Note: Horao is one of many Greek words that means 'to see'. But this one means 'to perceive with the mind'. And here, 'His form' refers to His essence. And through seeing His essence, seeing His perfect design and plan. His essence and Plan have been rejected by the religious leaders of the day.}

{Note: The Pharisees studied the Old Testament - particularly the Torah - all the time. They came from two schools of Theology: Shama (sp) and Halahal (sp). As unbelievers, they have no human spirit to understand spiritual phenomenon. The content of the scriptures (and the Torah) they know, but they are unable to relate these things to the Plan of God or to the Grace of God. Even though they know the Old Testament scriptures, they have not been able to correlate these things known to their life, or their environment. They live by ritual and have not the reality of bible doctrine -- the mind of Christ in their souls. For example, Christ IS our Passover (I Corinthians 5:7. If they had a human spirit, they would have seen Christ as their Passover Lamb right away.}

38~~"And you keep on not having -
His Word abiding {and operational} in you . . .
for whom He has sent as an official delegation {apostello} . . .
Him {Jesus}, you do not believe {pisteuo}."

{Note: To see spiritual information given by God you must have a human spirit. The believer in Jesus Christ has a human spirit and a soul. The human spirit is where doctrine is stored, like empty shelves where doctrine is divided and categorized into slots in the human spirit. Doctrine is piped into the soul from the human spirit for application of doctrine to experience or a situation in life. The believer who has learned a certain category of doctrine then puts that doctrine to work in application. Example: The doctrine of suffering is learned and categorized in the human spirit. The believer then faces some disaster, heartache, or other trouble in his/her life. The doctrine of suffering is moved from the human spirit into the soul's various compartments and applied to the situation at hand. Application of doctrine to experience results in inner peace and power in the soul. Doctrine abiding in you means it is OPERATIONAL -- moving through the GAP (Grace Apparatus for Perception} system provided by God in the different facets of the soul.}

{Note: Pisteuo is the verb of believing from your intellect not your emotions. The rest of the Chapter, Jesus hits them between the eyes with pisteuo, pisteuo, pisteuo.}

{Verses 39-44: Witness Number Five - the Old Testament as a Witness}
39~~"You 'explore something with which you are familiar' {ereunao} the scripture {to find Christ}.
For in them {the Old Testament Scriptures}
you sloppily assume {dokeo}
that you have eternal life
  {by observing the rituals of their religion and through their physical
  birth of being a Jew} . . .
and these {Same Scriptures}
are they that testify concerning Me {Jesus}."

{Note: Dokeo means to assume. Here it represents sloppy thinking on the part of the Pharisees - and negative volition toward the Lord.}

{Note: The religious leaders knew the Torah by memory and studied it continually, but they were using the ritual of the scripture, not investigating the 'Person' of the scripture . . . Jesus Christ. They had preconceived ideas from religion that had to be knocked out before they could receive the living word . . . Jesus Christ. They needed to UNLEARN their religious system and false ideas, then learn the correct view in order to make a proper decision for Jesus Christ. Volition has to make a proper decision and the mentality has to make a proper decision. Instead of letting the Scriptures speak to them, for itself, they superimposed upon the Scriptures their own preconceived idea's of righteousness. Whenever you investigate something, you must have an open mind that investigates the facts, not upon emotion and religious ritual of human good.}

{Their Continued Negative Volition toward Accepting Christ}
40~~"But you 'will not because of your emotions' {thelo}
'in a moment of time come face to face with' {erchomai} Me . . .
that you might keep on having {eternal} life."

{Note: Thelo is the emotion influencing their volition to go on negative signals rather then the mentality influencing the volition to go on positive signals towards the Plan of God. Mentality pulls in the facts.}

{Note: Erchomai is the word for coming face to face with someone or something. Here in the aorist tense it means 'at a point in time, divorced from time, and perpetuated forever'. Salvation is Faith in Christ. At that point, you saved. That salvation is removed from time and remains forever -eternal security.}

41~~"I {Jesus} do not grab/seize {lambano}
glory/honor from the immediate source of men."

{Note: Lambano here with the negative means to NOT seize from the immediate source of men - approbation lust and power lust.}

42~~"But I {Jesus} have known in the past with the result
that I keep on knowing you from observation {ginosko}
  {since eternity past, from observation . . . and I understand you right now!} . . .
that you keep on not having the love {agape}
toward God in you
  {negative volition at the point of God consciousness}."

{Note: Ginosko - means to come to know from observation. In the perfect tense, it means 'I always have known and always will know.}

{Note: Agape is a very high form of love . . . a mental attitude love.}

43~~"I {Jesus} am come {erchomai}
representing My Father . . .
and you do not grab/seize {lambano} Me
  {do not accept Him - implies they DO grab the human 'glory'}.
If another of the same kind {Jew} shall come
in his own name {his own glory, human good, religion} . . .
-maybe they will come, maybe they will not come -
him you will receive."

{Note: In this verse, Jesus is saying that these Jews 'honor' doing good which can be 'seen by other men' - praying loudly on the streets and in the temple - making a big show of giving large sums to the temple - for THAT they give great honor! But when Jesus comes . . . the manifestation of the Father . . . 'He', they do not accept.}

{Disorientation to Grace}
44~~"How do you keep on being able
to believe in a point of time {pisteuo} {God provides the ability} . . . who grab/seize {lambano}
glory/honor {false glory of human achievement}
from one of another of the same kind {other legalists/religious types} and do not seek the glory
that comes from the immediate source of God only. "

{Note: Pisteuo is the verb of believing from your intellect not your emotions.}

{Note: The religious crowd would get together and pat each other on the back, forming a mutual admiration society.}

45~~"Do not think that I {Jesus} shall accuse you to the Father.
There is one who accuses you . . . Moses . . .
in whom you have confidence."

{Note: The Pharisees said they believed Moses. But they did not accept the witness of Moses concerning Jesus Christ, which was throughout the writings of Moses.}

{The sixth witness: Moses}
46~~"For if you had believed {pisteuo} Moses -
but you did not - you would believe {pisteuo} Me.
For he wrote about Me."

{Note: See Scriptures: Deuteronomy 18; Numbers 21:4-9; Leviticus 1-6; Leviticus 23 Holy Days; Exodus 12 Passover; Acts 3:22; Acts 7:27; John 3:14; and I Corinthians 5:7.}

47~~"But if you do not believe {pisteuo} his writings -
and you do not believe {pisteuo} his writings -
how will you believe {pisteuo} My words?"
