Lamentations
Chapter
5
1``Remember,
O Jehovah/God,
what
is come upon us.
Consider,
and behold our reproach.
2``Our
inheritance is turned to strangers,
our
houses to foreigners/aliens {nokriy}.
3``We
are orphans and fatherless,
our
mothers . . . {are} as widows.
4``We
are drunk {with the wrath of God}. . .
our
water for money . . .
our
wood is attained by buying {at a high price}.
5``Our
necks are under persecution.
We
labor {in slavery} and have no rest.
{Failure
of their Foreign Policy}
6~~We
have 'given the hand'/submitted
{made allegiances with - trading freedom for security from a
supposed strong and helpful nation}
to
the Egyptians and to the Assyrians,
to
get enough food.
7~~Our
fathers sinned, and are 'no more'/gone.
And
we have borne the punishment/'consequences of their guilt'.
8``Slaves/Servants
have ruled over us.
There
is no one who
delivers
us out of their hand.
9~~We
keep on being caused to get our food
at
the risk of our souls/lives
because
of the sword of the desert
{because of the Arab raiders who attacked and took their food}.
10``
Our skin was hot like an oven
because
of the terrible hunger/famine.
11~~They
savagely raped the women in Zion,
and
the maidens/virgins/'young women' in the cities of Judah.
{Note:
This was horrible and savage gang rape. These were very cruel people.}
12~~Princes/Rules
have been hung up by their hand
{they hung them up by their hands and tried to skin them and
yet keep them alive for as long as possible - a game among the
Chaldean cruel troops}.
The
faces of elders/'those in authority'
are
shown no respect.
13~~They
took the young men to grind
{idiom for slavery - using slavery in a grain mill as an example},
and
the children stagger under loads of wood.
14~~The
elders/'those in authority' are gone from the city gate
{where they proclaimed laws and gave news},
the
young men have stopped their music
{no common every day joys in the cities anymore}.
15~~Joy
is gone from our hearts/'right lobes'.
Our
dance {of joy} is turned into 'rites of mourning'.
16~~The
crown has fallen from our head.
{means they are no longer the blessed Client Nation of God}.
Woe
to us, we have sinned!
17~~Because
of this our hearts/'right lobes' are faint/weak
{no doctrine in the soul to sustain them in hard times}.
Because
of these things, our eyes grow dim.
18~~For
the mountain of Zion which lies desolate
{where the temple was - but few were truly worshiping God there
for a long time},
with
jackals prowling over it.
19~~You,
O Jehovah/God, reign forever.
Your
throne/'seat of honor' . . .
endures
from generation to generation.
20~~Why
do You forget/ignore us forever
{their pleas to be pardoned},
and
forsake us so long time?
21~~Restore
us to Yourself, O Jehovah/God,
that
we may return {prayer answered in 516 BC}.
Renew/Repair
our days of old.
22~~Unless
You have utterly rejected/refused us
{His rejection will later come again in 70AD}
and
are angry with us beyond measure
{so far from 70AD until today and on to the 2nd Advent
of Christ, His anger on the Jewish Nation remains}.
