Psalms

Chapter 106

{A Psalm of Praise to God (Actually this is Poetry in the Hebrew}
1a~~{Title} Praise You . . . Jehovah/God {Jahh}
  {halal - Piel - Intensive stem -
  this is also the imperative mood - this is a command -
  halal-Jahh is sometimes transliterated Hallelujah}..

1b Be caused to give thanks unto Jehovah/God;
  {the cause is bible doctrine resident in your soul}
for He is {divine} good . . .
  {the only 'good' that has value - anything humans
  do outside of fellowship is 'human good' or 'wood
  hay and stubble'

1c~~For His mercy/'many acts of grace'/'undeserved divine favor' {checed}
'endures forever'/'is eternal.

2a~~Who can speak of the mighty deeds of Jehovah/God?
  {the only one who can is the one who has 'divine viewpoint'
  circulating in the norms and standards of his soul}

2b~~Who can fully declare His praise?
  {again the answer is only the believer with doctrine
  resident in his soul}

3a~~Happiness {'esher} . . . {belongs to} those . . .
who keep on guarding/keeping/regarding {shamar}
  {all refer to having doctrine in our souls
  and guarding it}
justice/judgment {mishpat}.
  {justice in the sense of following the authority
  of a bonified government - Nationalism - authority
  delegated by God - also includes authority of
  parents, teachers coaches, police officers, etc.}

3b~~{Happiness belongs to those} . . .
Who manufacture/execute
  {`asah - out of existing material - doctrine in the soul}
integrity/righteousness {ts@daqah}
at all times.

{Verses 4-5: Prayer for the Future}
4`` Remember me, O Jehovah/God,
with the favor/grace {ratsown}
You bear unto Your people.

O visit me with Your deliverance/salvation; 5``
that I may see/perceive
the good of Your chosen,
  {the 'good' of believers is when they apply
  'divine viewpoint' to experience - then God
  produces divine good THROUGH believers}
that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
that I myself may glory with Your inheritance.

{Israel's Failure in the Past in All These Things}
6~~ We have sinned like our fathers {the Exodus Generation},
we have been depraved/'committed iniquity',
  {the practice of believer degeneracy}
we have acted wickedly.

{Note: Remember that though the Jews failed, God kept them alive anyway. That is logistical grace and it does not relate to their sin. Moses was the greatest bible teacher of the Old Testament, yet the Exodus Generation rejected him and his teaching. God punished them for their sins, but He did not immediately put them to death - logistical grace kept them alive for 40 years in the desert.}

7a~~Our fathers in Egypt {Exodus Generation}
did not understood Your wonderful deeds.

7b~~They did not remember
Your abundant 'acts of grace'/mercies;
but rebelled {marah} at the sea,
even at the Red sea.

{Note: How did they rebel? Their fear and hysteria at the on-coming Egyptian army caused a wide emotional swing. They allowed the emotions of their souls to over-rule the thinking part of their souls - emotional revolt of the soul. They had doctrine. They had the opportunity to understand. They could have trusted in God to deliver them, but instead 'they were afraid'. Yet, as it says next . . . nevertheless You delivered them.}

8~~Nevertheless You delivered/saved them
for Your Name's sake,
  {God delivered them because of Who and What
  He is - His Matchless Grace - NOT who and
  what they were - they failed their first test under
  freedom from slavery}
that He might make known
His mighty power.

9a~~He {God} rebuked the Red sea . . .
and it dried up!

9b~~He led them through the deeps . . .
as through a pasture land.

10a~~He delivered them
from the power/hand of the one
who hated them.
  {Pharaoh Amenhotep II who died
  in the Red Sea}

10b~~And redeemed them
from the power/hand of the enemy.
  {referring to the pursuing Egyptian army}

11~~Then the waters covered their enemies . . .
not one was left.

12~~Then believed they His Words/Doctrine . . .
they sang His praises.

{Note: They had already been taught by Moses. Now they believe what was taught! But they still did not have a frame of reference - therefore the capacity to appreciate what had just happened! They saw divine deliverance but soon they forgot all about it. They were operating on emotion not doctrine in their souls.}

13a~~They quickly forgot His works/doctrine {ma`aseh}
  {they forgot the doctrine taught in His deliverance} . . .

13b~~They did not wait for His counsel

{Note: This is referring to waiting to see the results of 'application of doctrine to reality'. God had great plans for the Exodus Generation had they only listened to Him - and Moses taught them well but they did not understand. So once the emotional high wore off . . . three days later they were grumbling again at Meribah about the lack of water. No patience.}

14~~But they
'lusted a great lust' {'avah ta'avah}
in the desert,
and put 'Elohiym/Godhead to a test
in the desert.

{Note: God tests us. We should never test/prove/try Him! But, the Jews of the Exodus Generation did that. Prove that you love us God! They remembered the things they had in Egypt under slavery. Security was important to them not freedom. They wanted the meat and other details that they had under slavery.}

15~~So He {God}
gave them what they wanted . . .
but He sent 'a wasting disease'/'leanness into their soul'.

{Note: RBT says that this last part may be an idiom referring to a 'wasting disease'. There is a relationship between thought and the condition of the body. With no doctrine, they were spiritually weak and would therefore be over-come by things like stress.}

16~~They 'became jealous of'/envied Moses
in the camp of Aaron
the saint/'set-apart one'/'High Priest' of Jehovah/God.
  {this means a sin of arrogance - from their arrogance
  they were actually jealous of Moses and Aaron}

{Dathan and Abiram}
17~~And, the earth opened up
and swallowed up Dathan,
and covered the company of Abiram.

{Note: This refers back to the Dathan and Abiram revolt. Along with Korah, they envied the authority of Aaron and his line and God killed them all.}

18~~A a fire grew up in their assembly;
the flame burned up the wicked.
  {250 princes were destroyed in this divine judgment}

{Now to Idolatry - Revolt against God}
19~~They made a calf in Horeb,
and worshipped the molten image.

{Note: They had no spiritual strength so had to accept a shallow, superficial substitute.}

20~~They changed their glory
  {the glory of being the Client Nation to God -
  being born-again believers and part of God's plan}
into the image of an ox that eats grass.

21~~They {Exodus Generation}
forgot 'El/God . . .
their Savior/Deliverer . . .
Who had done great things in Egypt . . . 22
Miracles/'wondrous works'
in the 'land of Ham' {Egypt} . . .
awesome deeds by the Red sea . . .23
therefore He {God} said
that He would destroy them,
had not Moses His chosen
stood before Him in the breach,
to turn away His anger/wrath,
lest He should destroy them.

24~~Then they despised the pleasant land,
  {1 year later at Kadesh-Barnea}
because they did not believe His Word/Doctrine.

{Note: Means it was all emotion to them. They were believers but had no spiritual capacity - they FEARED the giants in the land.}

25~~But murmured/grumbled {about God}
in their tents,
  {no integrity - operation cry baby - they cried all night}
and listened not unto the voice of Jehovah/God.
  {this is 'maximum scar tissue of the soul' - after one
  year of rejecting doctrine in the desert march, now they
  are imitating the Pharaoh of Egypt in their souls}

26~~Therefore He 'promised'
  {idiom: literally 'lifted up His hand against'}
them . . . that He would
cause them to fall
in the desert.
  {this is 'maximum divine judgment' - sin unto death -
  but remember as believers, they are still saved forever}

27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations,
and to scatter them in the lands.

28 They joined themselves also unto Baal-Peor,
 and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 Thus they provoked Him to anger with their inventions
and the plague broke in upon them.

30 Then stood up Phinehas,
and executed judgment
and so the plague was stayed.

31 And that was counted unto him for righteousness
unto all generations forevermore.

32 They angered Him also at the waters of strife {Meribah},
so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes.

33 Because they provoked his spirit,
so that he spoke unadvisedly with His lips.

34 They did not destroy the nations,
concerning whom Jehovah/God commanded them.

35 But were mingled among the heathen,
and learned their works.
  {they 'learned' their social custom of the Phallic Cult
  mixture of idolatry and sex and human sacrifice}

36 And they served their idols . . .
which were a snare unto them.

37 Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, 38
and shed innocent blood,
even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,
whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan.

And the land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus were they defiled with their own works,
and went a whoring with their own inventions.

40 Therefore was the wrath of Jehovah/God
kindled against His people,
insomuch that He abhorred His own inheritance.

41 And He gave them into the hand of the heathen;
and those who hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies also oppressed them,
and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 Many times did He deliver them;
but they provoked Him with their counsel
  {their own 'human viewpoint' thinking instead
  of that viewpoint taught by the Word},
and were brought low for their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless He regarded their affliction,
when He heard their cry:

45 And He remembered for them His covenant,
and repented according to the multitude of His mercies.

46 He made them also to be pitied
of all those that carried them captives.

47 Save us, O Jehovah/God our 'Elohiym/Godhead,
and gather us from among the heathen,
to give thanks unto Your holy name,
and to triumph in Your praise.

48 Blessed be Jehovah/God . . .
'Elohiym/Godhead of Israel
from everlasting to everlasting.

And let all the people say,
Amen/'I believe it'.

Praise you Jehovah/God.
