Psalms

Chapter 137

{Psalm of Unhappiness - Hanging a Harp on a Willow tree - see Revelation 15:2 Note}
1~~By the rivers of Babylon {Jews as slaves},
there we sat down,
we wept when we remembered Zion
  {Zion was the hill that was used for the headquarters for the client
  nation}.

{Note: The Jews are out under the 5th cycle of discipline and this psalm expresses their unhappiness in this state.}

2~~On the willows in the middle of it {rivers of Babylon},
we hung our harps {indicates great sadness}.

3 For there they who carried us away captive

required of us a song;

and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying,

'Sing us one of the songs of Zion'.

4 How shall we sing Jehovah's/God's song in a strange land?

5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,

let my right hand forget her cunning.

6 If I do not remember you,

let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth;

If I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7 Remember, O Jehovah/God,

the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem.

Who said, Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation thereof.

8-9~~ O daughter of Babylon {Chaldean Empire}, you devastator!

How happy will be the one who repays you . . .

with the payment {complete military victory}

you have paid us Jews. 9~~

Happinesses to the ones who cease

and dash your children against the rocks.
