Psalms
Chapter
46
{Verses
1-3: People of Jerusalem Besieged by the Assyrian Army - under Sennacherib}
1a~~{Title}
To the Chief Musician/'Choir Director . . .
for
the sons of Korah {the Choir}
A
song set to the Alamoth {probably a high key note}.
{RBT says this psalm was written by King Hezekiah to his chief
musician. Then Korah probably added the lyrics, the melody has
been lost today.}
1b
Elohiym/Godhead . . . our fortress {machaceh} . . .
powerful/mighty
{'oz}.
And
a help in distress . . .
He
{God} has been found faithful.
{Note:
Korah was the son of Izhar, grandson of Kohath, the great grandson
of Levi and leader of the rebellion of the Israelites against Moses
and Aaron while in the wilderness. Korah was punished and died by an
earthquake and flames of fire, but his sons were preserved.
Physically his progeny were physically built in their mouth structure
that their singing was amazingly beautiful - and this is a reminder
of the grace of God.}
{Note:
The people are not following their King Hezekiah into reversionism.
They are saying they are not relying on the King or the walls of
Jerusalem to protect them. It is God on Whom they will rely. This
strong testimony that only can come from mature believers with
doctrine loaded up in their souls.}
2~~Therefore
will not we fear,
Though
the land be removed,
and
though the mountains be carried
into
the middle of the sea.
3~~The
waters thereof roar and are destructive,
{reference to the Assyrian armies advance like flood waters - see
this use also in Isaiah 8:7 - an irresistible force}
though
the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
Selah
{Selah means singers rest and instruments play on -
it is a picture of you resting while the Grace of God continues on}.
{Verses
4-7: Brief Description of the Siege of Jerusalem}
4~~A
river . . .
{see Isaiah 8:6 - water is used also for the Word of God
this water is stronger than the flood waters of the Assyrian
armies},
and
the streams thereof
{refers to the application of doctrine to life's experiences -
here applying doctrine in a disaster situation}
shall
continually make intensively
glad/joyous/'inwardly
happy' {samach - Piel stem}
the
city of Elohiym/Godhead,
the
holy place of the tabernacles
of
the Most High {'Elyown}.
{Importance
of Revival Which Leads to Learning Doctrine}
5~~Elohiym/Godhead
. . . in the midst of her {Jerusalem}
{referring to God's Word in the souls of believers};
she
shall not 'fall down'/'be moved.
Elohiym/Godhead
shall help her,
and
that right soon
{Jerusalem will not fall}.
6~~The
heathen {gowy} raged/'were very angry'
{Assyrians were very mad that they did not easily take Jerusalem}
the
kingdoms were moved
{The Assyrians never lost a battle in 200 years. There armies
had a pattern of crushing many kingdoms in their horrible
campaigns}.
He
{Jesus Christ} uttered His voice . . . the earth melted
{Jesus Christ more than once will slaughter armies with one Word
from His Mouth - see Revelation 19 and Isaiah 37:36 -
refers to the Assyrian army being destroyed}.
7~~
Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts . . . with us;
the
'Elohiym/Godhead of Jacob . . . our refuge {misgab}
{Jacob means 'chiseler'. He was a rat. But he believed and took
him a long time, but finally became a mature believer - then his
new name 'Israel' means 'Prince of God'}.
Selah
{Selah means singers rest and instruments play on -
it is a picture of you resting while the Grace of God continues on}.
8~~Come,
behold the works {miph`al} of Jehovah/God,
what
desolations He has made in the land
{was a great army now they are all dead by one Word of His
Mouth}.
9~~He
{God} makes wars to cease unto the end of the land;
he
breaks the bow,
and
cuts the spear in sunder;
he
burns the chariot in the fire.
{Results
of the Work of the Lord}
10~~Be
caused to be relaxed { raphah - Hiphil stem}
and
know {knowledge of doctrine -allows you to relax}
that
I am Elohiym/Godhead.
I
will be exalted among the heathen/Gentiles {gowy},
I
will be exalted in the land {among the Jews also}.
11~~Jehovah/God
of the armies/hosts . . . with us;
the
Elohiym/Godhead of Jacob . . . our fortress.
Selah
{Selah
means singers rest and instruments play on -
it is a picture of you resting while the Grace of God continues on}.
