Chapter 8
1~~Therefore now {there is}
absolutely no judgment {katakrima}
to those who are in Christ Jesus.

{Note: The rest of sentence appears later in the Greek text. Apparently an error of a scribe resulted in the KJV placing it here in error. It is not in recently found original texts.}

{Note: Katakrima refers to the process from being charged with a crime, through judgment, on to execution of judgment. We know from other verses that the condemnation occurs at birth for all humans with a human father (reason for the need of the virgin birth of Jesus). So, here we see that at the second birth, the judgment for the condemnation has been 'set aside'. This means the Great White Throne Judgement only for those who are not in Christ Jesus.}

2~~For the principal/law {nomos}
of the Spirit/spirit . . . {Who is}
the source of {everlasting} life
- in/'through the agency of' Christ Jesus {Positional Truth} -
has set you free
  {eleutheroo - this is divorce from the 1st Marriage - see Chapter 7}
from the law/principal
  {nomos - here meaning the trends or lusts of the OSN}
of 'the sin nature'/sin
and {(the resultant) spiritual} death
  {the Mosaic Law says the wages of sin is death see Galatians
  Chapter 2 - this is spiritual death - many have sinned and are still
  walking around today living physically}.

{Note: RBT says Spirit here refers to God the Holy Spirit Who provides us with everlasting life at the point of salvation and Union with Christ (marriage to the 2nd Husband). RBT said in other passages we also know that unbelievers do not have human spirits and do not have everlasting life. They have 'soul life'.}

3~~For the law {Mosaic Law} is powerless {adunatos}
in that it is weak through flesh
  {referring the sin nature in the human body},
the God
- having sent the Son of Himself in the likeness of the flesh of sin
  {refers to co-equality of the Father and the Son. And the Deity
  of the son falling/humiliating Himself to take the appearance of
  humanity (sans Adam's sin)}
and " 'as a substitute for' {peri} sin"/'as a sin offering' -
judged {katakrino} sin/'the sin nature'
in the flesh.

{Note: 'A' is the Greek prefix as a negative. Dunatos means power. Adunatos means powerless.}

4~~In order that the 'legal requirement' {dikaioma}
of the law might be fulfilled {pleroo} in us,
who do not walk {peripateo}
according to the flesh
  {referring to trends of the Old sin nature - applying human
  viewpoint},
but according to the Spirit {pneuma}
  {filled with the Spirit allowing God's divine viewpoint to be applied
  to life's experiences}.

{Note: Dikaioma means the 'legal or righteous' requirement of the Law.}

{Note: Pleroo is the verb meaning to 'fill up a deficiency'. Here it is our understanding of divine viewpoint that is deficient. The intake of doctrine fills that deficiency. In other verses, pleroma refers to one with an 'edification complex of the soul'. See also Luke 2:40.}

5~~For those who are 'according to flesh'/
"dominated by their 'Old Sin Nature'/flesh" {kata sarx}
keep thinking about
the 'things of the flesh'/'trends of their Old Sin Nature'
  {means human viewpoint thinking dominates - human good, evil and
  sin}.
But those who are 'according to flesh'/
"dominated by the {Holy} Spirit" {kata pneuma}
keep thinking about the 'things of the Spirit'/'bible doctrine'
  {means divine viewpoint dominates - from metabolized doctrine
  circulating in your soul}.

6-7~~ Consequently,
the 'thought pattern'/'way of thinking' {phronema}
of the flesh/'old sin nature' {sarx}
is death {spiritual death and dying discipline},
but the 'thought pattern'/'Way of thinking' {phronema}
of the Spirit is {capacity for}
life {Walking in the Righteous Ways of God} . . .
and prosperity/'inner peace' {eirene}
  {Harmonious Rapport with God} 7~~
because the 'thought pattern'/'way of thinking' {phronema}
of the flesh/'old sin nature' {sarx - used for human viewpoint}
is hostile {echthra} toward God
for it is not 'subordinate to'/'under the authority of' {hupotasso}
the 'policy/law of God' {bible doctrine}
  {human viewpoint rejects the superiority of Divine Viewpoint and
  therefore does not voluntarily come under the authority of the
  Mind of Christ},
neither indeed 'can it be'/'does it have the power to be' {dunamai}.

8~~Moreover, they {carnal or reversionistic believers}
who are 'in the flesh'/'under the authority of the old sin nature'
are absolutely not {ouk} able to please God.

{Note: When we are in carnality, we are operating outside fellowship/'filled with God the Holy Spirit'. We are then operating under the energy of the flesh and all that we produce is 'human good, sin, and/or evil. It is 'wood, hay and stubble'. Only when we are in fellowship can we permit God to produce divine good through us. You are not divine and you, by yourself, can not produce anything divine. Only divine good pleases God - that comes from His own righteousness which is imputed into the believer at the point of salvation. 'Pleasing God' and 'bringing glory to God' are two sides of the same coin.}

9~~In fact, all of you {believers}
are absolutely not {ouk}
'in the flesh'/'under the authority
of the old sin nature {first husband},
but, in contrast,
'in the Spirit'/under the authority of the Spirit'
  {Who is the 'marriage counselor' to the 2nd Husband - Jesus
  Christ},
'assuming that'/'if indeed' {ei per}
the Spirit of God
indwells in you all {all believers}
- and He does {1st class conditional if}.
In fact, if anyone {ei tis - the unbeliever in view now}
does not have the Spirit
from the source of Christ {Christ sent the Spirit},
This one {the unbeliever}
absolutely does not belong to Him {God}.

{Note: The indwelling of the Spirit of God is the difference of believers in the Church Age from those of other dispensations. In this dispensation, you are part of the Family of Christ and Family of God. In other dispensations, they were not indwelled (but could be temporarily endued with) God the Holy Spirit, but in the Church Age, all believers are indwelled with God the Holy Spirit.}

{Note: Pretty obviously the unbeliever is not indwelled by Christ. RBT also says that believers in fellowship are indwelt by Christ Himself (Christ is at home in us). Apparently this may be lost to those in reversionism. This explains why in Revelation 3:20, Jesus says He is standing at the door (on the outside) of a lukewarm believer knocking (warning discipline).}

{Doctrine of the Indwelling of Christ in Believers}
10~~In fact, if Christ . . . {keeps on being} in you
- and He is
  {context assumes all are believers here - 1st class condition} -
on the one hand,
the body is dead
  {spiritual death in carnality or the more severe condition -
  reversionism}
because of sin/'the sin nature' {hamartia - singular};
but, on the other hand,
the {Holy} Spirit . . . {keeps on being} life
  {in our marriage analogy, the 'new life' after death/divorce is with
  Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit replaces the 'Mosaic Law' as
  our new marriage counselor}
because of {imputed} righteousness {dikaiosune}
  {imputed righteousness of God at salvation}.

{Note: This verse and others tell us that Christ indwells believers growing in grace. When a believer falls back/ goes into reversionism, the indwelling of Christ is lost (see II Corinthians 13J.

11~~Now if the Spirit {God the Holy Spirit}
from Him {God the Father} . . .
Who raised up Jesus
from deaths {spiritual and physical deaths on the cross}
'dwells in you all'/'indwells you all'
- and He did {1st class conditional if} -
He Who raised Christ Jesus from deaths
will also 'make alive/'give life to'
  {zoopoieo - meaning giving you everlasting life}
your mortal/'subject to death' {thnetos} bodies {soma}
'by means of'/'by the agency of' His Spirit
Who resides in you.

{Note: zoopoieo zoo means life and poieo means to bring. So to 'quicken' means to make or to bring into existence. Here in context, if God raised Jesus from His spiritual then physical death, He will also give everlasting life to you.}

{Verses 12-13 - Not under the Authority of the Sin Nature Once Saved - Stated Negatively}
12-13~~ 'Consequently, therefore'
  {ara oun - two inferential particles together}
brethren {Royal Family},
we are not debtors/obligators {opheiletes}
to the flesh/'old sin nature'
  {sarx - divorce kills our obligation to 'the first husband'},
that we should live 'according to the standard of' {kata}
the flesh/'old sin nature' {sarx}. 13~~
Indeed, if you live
under the authority
of the flesh/'old sin nature',
you are destined to die {sin unto death}.
But, if by means of the Spirit
you recognize as dead {condemn to death}
the actions from the body {human works},
you shall live
  {the new life i.e. blessing from living inside the divine Dynasphere}.

14~~For as many {mature believers}
as are being led by the Spirit of God {God the Holy Spirit},
these are the 'mature sons' {huios} of God.

15~~For you have not received again
the 'spirit of slavery'
  {means a life in slavery to your Old Sin Nature}
for the purpose of fear;
but, in contrast,
you have received the 'spirit of adoption'
  {great honor - equal in power and authority of the one adopting
  you},
by Whom we keep shouting,
"Abba, my Father"
  {phrase used in Roman adoption ceremony,
  refer also to Galatians 4:6}.

{Note: Adoption was different in the day the bible was written. In that day, for example a ruler would decide who he thought was most worthy to succeed him once he died. So, he would take this person (normally a relative) and go through an adoption ritual making this one 'equal in his power and authority'. So when he passed, this one became the new ruler. That is the type of adoption meant here.}

16~~The Spirit Himself {God the Holy Spirit}
testifies together'/'confirms in association with'
with our {human} spirit,
that we are 'small children' {teknon} of God.

{Note: At the point of salvation, we all become babies in Christ. As you take in doctrine and 'Walk in the Righteous Way of God' (apply doctrine learned to your experiences in life), then you grow spiritually into an 'adult child' (huios - see verse 14) of God.}

17~~Now, if . . . {we keep on being} 'small children' {teknon} . . .
{we keep on being} also heirs {kleronomos}.
On the one hand {ei (men - 'on the other hand' will follow)},
{we are} heirs of God {the Father},
and, on the other hand {men},
{we are} fellow/joint-heirs {sugkleronomos} with Christ.
  {Next sentence is a transitional sentence for the rest of the
  chapter}
If indeed, we 'suffer with Him' {sumpascho}
  {meaning 'suffering while in with maturity status'},
that also we might be 'glorified with Him' {sundoxazo}.

{Note: Sumpascho is a word that means to 'suffer along with'. In context, we see that we are suffering along with Christ. In His Hypostatic Union, He was perfectly mature while suffering for us. We suffer once we reach spiritual maturity and 'become more and more like Him'. Once we imitate Christ sufficiently, we allow Him to work through us so He is glorified in time and we will be rewarded in time and eternity future.}

{Verses 18-30: New Life from Suffering Through Glorification}
{Comparison of Suffering in Time to Glory in Eternity Future}
18~~For I {Paul} 'logically conclude based on the facts' {logizomai}
that the sufferings
of the present period of time {while in spiritual maturity} . . .
{keep on being} absolutely not {ouk}
comparable face to face with {pros} the glory
  {reference to rewards and blessings in eternity future God gives to
  mature believers}
which is destined to be revealed {apokalupto}
to us {mature believers in eternity}.

{Note: In using logizomai, Paul is being dogmatic. If you are adamant about something in which you are ignorant, that is stubbornness. If you are adamant about something in which you are cognizant, that is integrity. It is important to understand the difference.}

{Note: Here Paul is discussing underserved suffering for the purpose of blessing. As you become spiritually mature, you are prepared to handle the suffering and putting doctrine to use brings glory to the Lord on earth while He is in heaven.}

{Verses 19-22: Undeserved suffering of the Earth}
19~~For the confident expectation {apokaradokia}
of the creation/'material universe' {ktisis}
waits eagerly {apekdechomai}
for the revealing {apokalupsis}
of the 'mature sons' {huios} of God
  {believers receiving a resurrection body
  at the Second Advent of Christ}.

{Note: See Genesis 3:17. The land came under the judgment of man at the fall. Per this verse, we now know that it will remain under 'undeserved suffering' until the 2nd Advent. In the Millennium, the Earth will revert back to perfect environment just like Adam had in the garden. Yet still after 1000 years of perfect environment and a perfect Ruler, 1/3 of the population of the Earth will again revolt. Revolution has never really been about 'improving the environment', instead it has always been 'the have nots' attempting to replace 'the haves' - power lust.}

20~~For the creation/'material universe'
was subordinated {at the fall - see Genesis 3:17}
to 'futility'/'void of purpose'/vacuum {mataiotes}
absolutely {ouk} against its own will,
but, in contrast, because of Him {God the Father}
Who has subordinated {it - creation to futility}
in time of hope {elpis}
  {refers to the 2nd Advent when it will be out from under the
  suffering of mankind tilling the soil}.

{Note: Mataiotes means a vacuum or void. Paul uses it technically for when there is no doctrine/'divine viewpoint' in their soul, a vacuum opens up and doctrines of demons come in to fill the void. As you take doctrine in, you replace human viewpoint with divine viewpoint. If you stop the intake of doctrine, the process reverses and human viewpoint will again enter in - reversionism.}
