{Verses
1-5: General Principle of Israel's Future
and Picture the Jews Back in the Land}
{Verses
1-2: Lord Jesus Christ as Surveyor}
1~~I
lifted up mine eyes again
{means Zechariah is having another vision},
and
looked, and beheld a man
with
a measuring line {surveyor's instrument}
in
His hand.
{Note: RBT says the man with the measuring line is again Jesus Christ. This time He is measuring the border of the city of Jerusalem. He wants them to build the temple. HE will protect the city with His Wall of Fire.}
2~~Then
I said,
"Where
do you go?"
{idiom: we might say 'what are you going to do?'}
And
He {the man with the measuring line - Jesus Christ really}
said
to me,
"To
measure Jerusalem,
to
see what is the breadth thereof,
and
what is the length thereof
{idiom: meaning 'taking the measurements for future walls'}."
{Note: In 516 BC the 5th cycle of discipline will be concluded with the completion of the second temple. But there will still be no walls around Jerusalem, and a great city cannot survive without walls. And yet from 516 to 445 BC Jerusalem will go 66 years without walls and without one shot fired in their direction. This is special divine protection based upon the utilization of divine doctrine. For sixty-six years the Jews will not have walls and yet they will have the best walls in all of history. The Lord Jesus Christ will be a wall of fire around them.}
{Verse
3: Ministry of the Two Angels: 1) Teaching angel and 2) Messenger Angel.}
3~~And,
behold,
the
angel that talked with me went forth,
and
another angel went out to meet him.
{Note: The reason that the teaching angel needs a little help from the Lord Himself is because actually we are going to have two different prophetical concepts in this passage. This is what we call the dual fulfillment of prophecy. The first pertains to the Jews of Zechariah's generation and the second to the prophecy of the Tribulation.}
{Verse
4-5: The Lord as the Wall of Fire}
4~~And
said unto him,
"Run,
speak to this young man, saying,
'Jerusalem
shall be inhabited as towns without walls
for
the multitude of men and cattle therein
{these represent great prosperity for a nation}.' "
5~~"For
I", said Jehovah/God,
"will
be unto her a wall of fire round about,
and
will be the glory {kabowd}
in
the midst of her."
{Note: Kabowd means glory/splendor/honor and more. Here it refers to the essence of God. They are to keep God and His Word first in their lives - so YOU rebuild the temple - let ME be your walls!}
{Verses
6-9: The Jews who were in Babylon.}
6~~'Come
to attention!'
{howy howy - an idiom for coming to attention - a military TEN HUT
command - come to attention!},
Flee
from the land of the north" {meaning Babylon}
said
Jehovah/God.
"For
I have spread you abroad
as
the four winds {ruwach} of the heaven,"
said
Jehovah/God
{as punishment under the 5th cycle of discipline, the Jews were
scattered by God}.
{Note: This is referring to the captive Jews who are now prosperous in Babylon and did not want to leave to return to Jerusalem. This is an order them that they should be in the land.
In other words, you are going to have to be in the land to be in the place of blessing. Application: Our land today is Bible doctrine. Out of the land is minus doctrine. Our Babylon is negative signals toward Bible doctrine.}
{Note: Babylon was actually to the south as the crow flies. But was referred to as the land to the north because to get there on ground, you had to first go North and then circle around the desert and then go down South}
7~~Receive
deliverance, O Zion,
who
'dwells in prosperity' {yashab}
with
the daughter of Babylon.
{Note: The principal here is that sometimes you have to take action to be in the will of God. The Jews in Babylon must get up and move out!}
8~~For
thus said Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts,
"After
the glory He has sent Me
{RBT says this means 'after the deliverance'}
unto
the nations which spoiled you
{Chaldeans will get extra discipline}.
For
he who touches you {any Jew}
touches
the pupil of His {God's} eye".
{Note: The phrase 'pupil of his eye' also occurs in Deuteronomy 32:10; Psalm 17:8; and Proverbs 7:2. The word pupil was generally changed to 'apple' probably by the rabbis. The reason for doing so was because of its Messianic implications, which they did not accept. There is no such thing in scripture as the 'apple of the eye' - it is the pupil. It refers to God's protection of the Jews.}
{Verse
9: Principle of Anti-Semitism and how it Affects History}
9~~"For,
behold,
I
will shake my hand upon them
{idiom for a clenched fist coming down on them},
and
they shall be a spoil to their servants.
And
you shall know
{Knowing is always the key}
that
Jehovah/God of the Armies/hosts has sent me."
{Note: The Chaldean and Assyrian empires lost out because of anti-Semitism. The rise of Persia was because of a gracious attitude toward the Jews. Alexander the Great favorably treated the Jews. The Selleucid Empire was destroyed because of anti-Semitism, e.g. Antiochus Epiphanies. The Romans were friendly towards the Jews. The Spanish inquisition was directed toward the Jews who were the middle class in Spain. They had actually made Spain prosperous. Spain went down because of this. As Spain went down Britain began to rise. The Jews began to find refuge in Britain when Cromwell made England a haven for the Jews. He gave them citizenship and privileges with the British people. This was one of the greatest illustrations of the correct attitude toward the Jews. Britain has been going down ever since the Balfour Declaration changed this.}
{Verses
10-13: Future of Israel Connected with the Second Advent}
10~~Shout
{overt expression of inner happiness}
and
rejoice/'inner happiness' {samach},
O
daughter of Zion
{idiom meaning all the Jews}.
For,
lo, I come,
and
I will 'dwell permanently' {shakan}
in
the middle of you,"
said
Jehovah/God.
{Note: The Hebrew has numerous words for 'dwelling'. Shakan is the word meaning to permanently dwell.}
{Prophesy
of the Millennial Reign of Christ}
11~~And
many nations/'gentile nations' {gowy}
{believers in various national entities who survived the baptism of
fire}
shall
be joined to Jehovah/God in that day,
and
shall be my people.
And
I will dwell in the middle of you,
and
you will know that Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts
has
sent me to you."
12~~And
Jehovah/God shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land
{fulfillment of the Abrahamic, Palestinian and Davidic covenants to
Israel}.
And
shall choose Jerusalem again
{means this will be the termination of the 5th cycle of discipline -
Israel will be back as the client nation to God in the Millennium}.
13~~Be
silent!
{concept of worship, contemplation - and is an intense
command}
O
all flesh, before Jehovah/God.
{referring to all believers before the Lord at the 2nd Advent}
For
He is raised up
{this means not only the Second Advent
but also means He is going to teach doctrine.}
out of His holy habitation -
Christ will return from heaven in His Resurrection Body}.
