Daniel
Chapter
5 (Continued)
{Note:
From Chapter 2:4b through Chapter 7, Daniel is writing in the
Chaldean language.}
{Begins
with the Grace of God in the Life of King Nebuchadnezzar After Salvation}
18~~"O
king, the Most High 'Elahh/God
granted
{a GRACE GIFT from God}
sovereignty,
grandeur, glory and majesty
to
Nebuchadnezzar your father."
19~~"And
because of the grandeur
which
He bestowed on him,
all
the peoples, nations, and {men of every} language
feared
and trembled before him.
Whomever
he wished he killed {capital punishment},
and
whomever he wished he spared alive,
{he was the just law of the land}
and
whomever he wished he elevated,
and
whomever he wished he humbled."
{he hired and fired administrators}
20~~"But
when his heart/'right lobe' was lifted up,
{the norms and standards in his soul were destroyed
by clusters of mental attitude sins -arrogance and other sins with
it}
and
his 'spirit became so proud'
{to 'hardening of the spirit' and 'harden the heart' are an idioms
meaning to be obstinate because of scar tissue on the soul}
that
he behaved arrogantly,
he
was deposed from his royal throne,
and
{his} glory was taken away from him."
21~~"He
was also driven away from mankind,
and
his heart/'right lobe'/'norm and standard lobe of the mind'
was
made like {that of} animals/beasts,
and
his dwelling place was with the wild donkeys.
He
was given grass to eat like cattle,
and
his body was drenched with the dew of heaven,
{only bath he had}
until
he recognized/understood
that
the Most High 'Elahh/God
is
ruler over the realm of mankind,
and
that He sets over it whomever He wishes."
{'Sovereignty' is the volition of God - and it is always related to His
Plan - Grace on the basis of His Will, His Character, His Person}
22~~"Yet
you his grandson, O Belshazzar,
have
not caused your heart/'right lobe' to be humbled,
even
though you knew all this."
{perfect tense - a done deal - he had every opportunity to do so,
but he said no, no, no to God - so completed action tense}
23~~"But
you have exalted yourself
against
the King/Lord/Mare' of heavens
and
they {the king's servants}
have
brought the vessels of His house before you,
and
you and your nobles,
your
wives and your concubines
have
been drinking wine from them
and
you have praised the 'elahh/gods of silver and gold,
of
bronze, iron, wood and stone,
which
do not see, hear or understand.
But
the 'Elahh/God . . .
in
Whose hand are your life-breath . . .
{nishma' - Chaldean for the 'breath of life'}
and
in your Ways . . .you have not glorified."
{no repect for the authority of God from the king}
24~~"Then
the hand was sent from Him {Jesus Christ}
and
this inscription was 'written out'/recorded."
{Note:
r@sham in the Chaldean indicates a permanent type writing. This is a
precedent that the canon of scripture eventually would all be in writing.}
{Daniel
is seeing that 4 Chaldean words are to be added to the Word of God}
25~~
"And this is the writing that was written,
'MENE
{'MENE' represents the leaders at this party are being numbered
here referring to the king and his nobles} . . .
'MENE
{'MENE again -being numbered now are the- others within the walls
of Babylon - this time it refers to the people of Babylon- the
Merchants, soldiers, women and children (mentioned in other
passages on the fall of Babylon}},
TEKEL
{'TEKEL'- means being weighed - for Belshazzar himself - as an
unbeliever he personally would be judged} . . .
and
{up} HARSIN/PERES/P@RAC
{it is SHATTERED - 'UPHARSIN' - the Chaldean empire will be broken
in pieces}."
26~~"This
is the interpretation of the message . . .
'MENE
. . .
God
has numbered your kingdom,
and
caused it to come to an end."
27~~
"TEKEL . . .
You
are weighed on the scales,
and
are found wanting/deficient."
{Note:
Without Jesus Christ, all unbelievers are 'weighed on the scales of
Divine Justice and Righteousness' and found lacking. This is the
condemnation of the unbeliever - the scales are tipped toward Divine Judgment.}
28~~"And
HARSIN/PERES/P@RAC . . .
{'Peres' was active voice as written above because they Persian
army was moving as it was written - now Daniel is explaining it in
the passive tense - also a play on words (paramenasia) - Peres is
the word for 'shattering and division and is also the word for the
Persians - so the land will be peres'ed between the Medes and
the Peres (Persians).}
The
kingdom has now received division . . .
and
given to the Medes and Persians."
{Note:
Daniel is saying the attack now is already underway. General Gubaru
is leading his army through the dried up Euphrates River bed as he
says this.}
{Daniel
made 3rd in power}
29~~Then
Belshazzar gave orders,
and
they clothed Daniel with purple,
and
{put} a chain of gold about his neck,
and
made a proclamation concerning him,
that
he {now} had the authority as the third {ruler} in the kingdom.
30~~That
same night Belshazzar, the Chaldean king, was slain.
{RBT
says Chapter 6 Begins Here in the Hebrew}
31~~So
Darius the Median received the kingdom
at
about the age of sixty-two.
