Deuteronomy
Chapter
18
1
The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi,
shall
have no part nor inheritance with Israel.
They
shall eat the offerings of Jehovah/God made by fire,
and
His inheritance.
2
Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren.
Jehovah/God
is their inheritance, as He has said unto them.
3
And this shall be the priest's due from the people,
from
those who offer a sacrifice,
whether
it be ox or sheep;
and
they shall give unto the priest the shoulder,
and
the two cheeks, and the maw.
4
The first-fruit also of your corn, of your wine, and of your oil,
and
the first of the fleece of your sheep, shall you give Him.
5
For Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead
has
chosen him out of all your tribes,
to
stand to minister in the name of Jehovah/God,
him
and his sons forever.
6
And if a Levite come from any of your gates out of all Israel,
where
he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind
unto
the place which Jehovah/God shall choose; 7
then
he shall minister in the name
of
Jehovah/God his Elohiym/Godhead,
as
all his brethren the Levites do,
which
stand there before Jehovah/God.
8
They shall have like portions to eat,
beside
that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.
{Verses
9-12. Why the Canaanites Had to Be Destroyed}
9~~When
you are come into the land
which
Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead gives you,
you
shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
{Note:
See Joshua Chapter 6 for Coming into the Land and dstruction of Jericho.
10-12~~There
shall not be found among you any one
who
makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire
{child sacrifice to the 'fire god'}
or
that uses divination {consulting mediums},
or
an observer of times {astrology},
or
an enchanter,
or
a witch {female medium}, 11~~
or
a charmer,
or
a consulter with familiar spirits {demons},
or
a wizard,
or
a necromancer {contacting the dead}. 12~~
For
all who do these things
are
an abomination unto Jehovah/God
and
because of these abominations
Jehovah/God
your 'Elohiym/Godhead
does
drive them out from before you.
13
You shall be 'complete'/'totally spiritually mature'
with
Jehovah/God your 'Elohiym/Godhead.
14
For these nations,
which
you shall possess,
'hear,
listen and obey' {shama'}
unto
observers of times, and unto diviners.
But
as for you,
Jehovah/God
your 'Elohiym/Godhead
has
not suffered you so to do.
{Verses
15 and 18 relate to John 1. 21}
15
Jehovah/God your 'Elohiym/Godhead
will
raise up unto you a Prophet from the midst of you,
of
your brethren,
like
unto Me;
unto
Him you shall 'hear, listen and obey' {shama'} ;
16
According to all that you desired
of
Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead
in
Horeb in the day of the assembly,
saying,
Let me not hear again the voice
of
Jehovah/God my Elohiym/Godhead,
neither
let me see this great fire any more,
that
I die not.
17
And Jehovah/God said unto me,
They
have well spoken that which they have spoken.
{Acts
3. 18 reveals that this Prophet is Jesus Christ -
a Messianic passage}
{Verses
15 and 18 relate to John 1. 21}
18
I will raise them up a Prophet
from
among their brethren,
like
unto you,
and
will put My words/'doctrinal communications' {dabar}
in
His mouth;
and
He shall speak unto them
all
that I shall command Him.
19
And it shall come to pass,
that
whosoever will not 'hear, listen and obey' {shama'}
unto
My words/'doctrinal communications' {dabar}
which
He shall speak in My name,
I
will require it of Him.
20~~But
the prophet,
which
shall presume to speak a word in My name,
which
I have not commanded him to speak,
or
that shall speak in the name of other gods/elohiym,
even
that prophet shall die.
21
And if you say in your heart,
How
shall we know the word which Jehovah/God has not spoken?
22
When a prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah/God,
if
the thing follow not,
nor
come to pass,
that
is the thing which Jehovah/God has not spoken,
but
the prophet has spoken it presumptuously.
You
shall not be afraid of Him.
