Judges

Chapter 5
{Chapter 4 is the History (narrative) and Chapter 5 is the Victory Song (in poetry form) - Explains some of the Narrative of Chapter 4}}
1-2~~Then sang Deborah
and Barak, the son of Abinoam, on that day, saying, 2~~
  {Poetry}
"That the strong in Israel showed themselves strong . . .
That the people willingly offered themselves . . .
Praise You Jehovah/God

{Note: Who were the strong in Israel? Deborah and Jael. Both had edification complexes of the soul and showed themselves strong spiritually. Then the men got on the ball and followed willingly.}

3~~Hear, O you kings; give ear, O you princes;
I, even I, will sing unto Jehovah/God . . .
I will sing praise to the Jehovah/God 'Elohiym/Godhead of Israel.

{Note: The glory belongs to the Lord and no mature believer would try to steal it!}

4~~Jehovah/God, when You went out of Seir,
when You marched out of the field of Edom . . .
the earth trembled,
and the heavens dropped,
the clouds also dropped water.

{Note: The clouds dropping water is how the armored chariots got bogged down.}

5~~The mountains melted from before the Jehovah/God . . .
even that Sinai from before Jehovah/God . . .
'Elohiym/Godhead of Israel.

{Note: This is a hint of the deliverance, details will follow.}

6~~In the days of Shamgar, the son of Anath,
in the days of Jael,
the highways were unoccupied,
and the travelers walked through byways.
  {indicates in both times, things were at a crisis situation - no
  control of the land}

{Note: This is a comparison of the ECS of Shamgar of the past (see Judges 3:31) with that of the ECS of Jael. Shamgar was a hero and a mature believer. He is mistakenly referred to as a judge, but he was not per RBT. He was a great hero though. Each were mature believers and prepared to meet the crisis. They each used the same weapon against the crisis - violence. Violence is justified - in defense of your nation.}

7~~The inhabitants of the villages ceased,
  {crime and violence was so great no one could safely live in a small
  village so they moved into cities for protection}
they ceased in Israel until that I, Deborah, arose,
that I arose a mother in Israel.

8~~New 'elohiym/gods
were chosen by the people {religious reversionism}.

Then war was at the gates.

Not a spear or a shield was seen among forty thousand in Israel!

{Note: A strong well prepared army of conservatives keeps nations out of wars. When liberalism spreads, people turn away from Gods laws for establishment and take money from the military for 'feel good' projects. So here we have an army of 40,000 but they were ill equipped and untrained - and therefore unprepared to meet the crisis when the enemy came! This trend occurs over and over in history.}

{Those willing to fight by categories of life - 1st the Aristocrats}
9~~My {Deborah's} heart/'right lobe' {her ECS}
{is} toward the governors/aristocrats of Israel . . .
who offered themselves willingly among the people.

Bless You Jehovah/God.

{Those willing to fight by categories of life - Nobility, Professionals, Businessmen}
10~~ Speak . . .
you who ride on white asses {nobles of the land},
you who sit in judgment {professional types}
and walk by the way {RBT says are businessmen}.

11~~They who are delivered
from the noise of archers
in the places of drawing water
  {referring to the battlefield},
there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Jehovah/God,
even the righteous acts
toward the inhabitants of His villages in Israel . . .
then shall the people of the Jehovah/God go down to the gates.

{Note: Deborah is saying these men will remember what God has done for them.}

12~~Awake, awake, Deborah . . .
  {means orientation to the grace of God}
awake, awake, utter a song.

Arise, Barak, and lead your captivity captive,
you son of Abinoam.

{Note: Now in poetry form Deborah gives what she said to Barak when she gave the field order to attack.}

13``Then He made him who remain
have dominion over the nobles among the people.

Jehovah/God made me have dominion over the mighty.

{The Tribes Who Participated}
14-15~~Out of Ephraim . . . a root of them against Amalek.
  {means a few men from Ephraim went on the attack}

After you, Benjamin, among your people.
  {Benjamin is a tribe of warriors - they were all great fighters}

Out of Machir {Manasseh} . . . came down governors/aristocrats.

And out of Zebulun . . .
they who handle the pen of the writer {students}. 15~~

The princes of Issachar were with Deborah . . .
even Issachar, and also Barak.

He was sent on foot into the valley.
  {idiom meaning they all did a great job in the fighting}

By the brooks of Reuben
there were great thoughts of heart/'right lobe'.
  {the men of Reuben heard the call to battle and they left what they
  loved - their land, their cattle, their brooks and responded to the
  call of arms}

{Now the Slackers/ Cowards}
16~~Why do you live among the sheepfolds . . .
to hear the bleatings of the flocks?
  {some were cowards and did stay home with their flocks}

For the brooks of Reuben
there were great searchings of heart/'right lobes'.
  {means 'why did you stay home when the great men of Reuben
  marched? They wanted to stay with their cattle also!}

{More Slackers}
17~~Gilead abode beyond Jordan.

And why did Dan remain in ships?
  {they took to ships to 'stay safe' while the battle raged}

Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches.
  {stayed as far from the battle as they could}

{Zebulun and Naphtali bore the brunt of the battle}
18~~Zebulun and Naphtali were a people who jeopardized their lives
unto the death in the high places of the field.

19``The kings came and fought,
then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach
by the waters of Megiddo.

They took no gain of money.

{Angels took part in this battle - Part of the Angelic Conflict}
20~~They fought from heaven.

The stars in their courses fought against Sisera.

{The Story of Your Life as a Believer in the Church Age}
21a~~The river of Kishon swept them away,
that ancient river, the river Kishon.

{Note: So here is how God gave the victory to Deborah and Barak. Sisera used a dried up river bed to more his forces. So God took a dried up river bed and poured rain from the sky until it was raging again and caught Sisera and his armored chariots in a wet and muddy trap. God destroyed the armored force, NOT by military action.}

21b~~O my {Deborah's} soul . . .
you {her soul by believing in the promise of God}
have trampled and destroyed great power!

{Note: Deborah is saying her ECS destroyed the power of Sisera and his great army. It was her faith in the promise of God that won the day!}

22-23``(Then were the horsehoofs broken
by the means of the prancings,
the prancings of their mighty ones. 23~~
"Curse you Meroz", said the angel of the Jehovah/God,
"curse you bitterly the inhabitants thereof;
because they came not to the help of the Jehovah/God,
to the help of the Jehovah/God against the mighty.")

24~~Blessed above women . . .
shall Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite be.

Blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

{Note: The Mother Mary was called 'blessed among women'. Jael is called 'blessed ABOVE women'. What Jael did was really not feminine but it was great. Jael acted based on her ECS of her soul.}

25~~He asked water . . . she gave him milk.

She handed him cream in a dish of nobility.

26~~She stretched out her hand to the tent-peg/nail.

And her right hand to the workmen's hammer.

And hammered Sisera . . . broke his head.
  {he tried to get up so she smashed his head - here are the details
  of the death}

And dashed in pieces {his skull} and pierced his head . . .
stricken through his temples.

27~~Between her feet . . . he bowed . . . he fell . . . he lay down.
  {she was smashing him down with the hammer as he was trying to
  rise up}

Between her feet . . . he bowed . . . he fell.

When he bowed, there he fell down dead.

{Sisera's Unsaved Mother Enters the Poetry}
28~~Through the windows there looks out and cries aloud.

The mother of Sisera through the lattice work.

Why does his chariot delay his coming?

Why tarry the steps of his team?
  {what is holding him up from coming back?}

29~~The wise of her princesses reply.

Yes, but she repeats her words to herself.
  {she hears their 'excuses' for his delay but she derives no comfort
  from their empty words}

{Here is what she repeats to herself}
30~~Surely they are finding and sharing booty.
  {she is telling herself they have won the battle and are just taking
  time to gather the spoils of war}

A maiden . . . two maidens to a head of a man.
  {this is the normal rape of the women of a conquered people - she
  expects this is delaying him also}

Booty of the various cloths/cloaks to Sisera.
  {thinking of the beautiful things he will put on and wear home}

A very unusual suit . . .
two cloths of different colors starting at his neck as booty.

31~~So shall all of Your enemies perish, O Jehovah/God.

But let those who love Him . . .
be like the rising of the sun in its strength.

And the land had prosperity/blessing/rest for forty years.
