Proverbs
Chapter
04
2~~For
I {Solomon}
3~~For
I {Solomon}
4~~He
{David} taught me {Solomon} also,
5~~Get
doctrine/wisdom {chokmah} Forget it {his imploring from father to son} not.
Neither
decline from the words/'doctrinal communications' {dabar}
{Lover's
Terms - 'How much 'heavy necking' have you done with doctrine?'}
Love
her . . . {Note: The analogy is 'right man' - the believer - pursuing after his 'right woman' - God and His Word here. In the book of Jeremiah, Jeremiah uses the analogy often for the man being adulterous to his right woman - by going into the Phallic Cult idolatry. So, here Solomon is saying to love God and His Word as you would a woman whom you love. Be aggressive. Actively pursue her (doctrine). And, the only true love starts with love in the soul. You must know a woman's soul/thinking to really love her. The same with God and His Word.}
7~~Wisdom/
Therefore
get wisdom . . .
8~~Exalt/'Esteem
highly' {calal} her {doctrine}
She
{doctrine} shall bring you to honor, {Note: This whole section is one of having a true interest in doctrine, courting her, showing her off to the world - and SHE will bring to you promotion (spiritual promotion and possibly physical promotion in time also but certainly in eternity future) and honor (both in time and eternity).}
9~~She
{doctrine} {Note: This is an analogy to a 'status symbol' - a beautiful woman on the arm of a 'great man'. Have doctrine with you and be honored and 'walk with confidence' when she travels with YOU!}
10~~'Hear,
listen and obey' {shama`}, {Note: Doctrine is life. Doctrine should be your life. Again this is the concept of a fulfilled, happy life as opposed to a large number of years. They may come also, but God takes the mature believer at the right time - HE knows when that is.}
11~~I
{Solomon} have taught you {Rehoboam}
I
have led you in right paths.
{A
rebound verse quoted in Hebrews 12:13}
And
when you run . . .
13~~'Take
fast hold' {chazaq} Let her {doctrine} not go. Keep her . . . for she {doctrine} is your life!
14~~Enter
not into the path of the wicked, {Note: But this is what Rehoboam did. This is the story of I Kings 12:8. He turned down his wise counselors who had been with Solomon instead following the advice of his young friends and he divided the kingdom.}
15~~Avoid
it . . . pass not by it . . . turn from it . . . and pass away.
{Description
of the Wrong Crowd (in particular those who Gave Counsel to Rehoboam
in I Kings 12:8)} And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 17~~
For
they eat the bread of wickedness,
18~~But 19~~The way {manner of life} of the wicked is as darkness.
They
know not at what they stumble. 20~~My son, attend to my words. Incline your ear unto my sayings.
21~~Let
them {categories of doctrine}
Keep
them in the middle
22~~For
they {principals of doctrine} And health to all their flesh.
23~~Keep
your 'right lobe'/heart with all diligence.
For
out of it are the issues of life.
24~~Put
away from you a perverted {`iqq@shuwth} mouth.
And
perverse/deviated/crooked {l@zuwth} lips . . . put far from you.
25~~Let
your eyes look 'right on' {nokach}. Let your eyelids look straight before you. 26~~Ponder the path of your feet. Let all your Ways {manners of life} be established.
27
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left.
Remove
your foot from evil.
