Song of Solomon

Chapter 2

[SW dreaming about marriage and living with SL]
1:17~~ " The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.
2:1~~ I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valley."

{Note: She is saying she is a 'responder'. She is the rose responding to SL's love who is now in the valley of Sharon with his sheep}

[S just goes on with his seduction attempt oblivious to anything else] 2~~ "As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters."

{Note: SW is supposedly 'his love' among the DJ's}

[SW still thinking about SL] 3~~
"As the apple tree among the trees of the wood,
so is my beloved {SL} among the people (sons)."

{Note: He is the tree and she is an apple. He would not be interested in a "pair" and she would not be interested in an Orange tree. Apples are used as an analogy for 'love ecstasy'}

[SW]~~ "I sat down under his shadow
with great delight {intensive ecstasy - soul relationship},
and his fruit was sweet to my taste
  {physical relationship- they were physical}."

{Note: SL is the tree, SW is the apple. He is the only one for her and vice versa.}

[SW is remembering when SL took her to dinner] 4~~ "He brought me to the banqueting house and his banner over me was love."

{Note: SL covers SW with love and she is not looking around at others - his banner is a military reference for the day about a regiment's banner- SW felt totally protected by SL's love}

[SW] 5~~ "Stay me with flagons {brandy to revive her},
comfort me with apples.
  {smell of apples was used to revive people of the day}
For I am sick with love {love sickness for SL}."

[SW] 6~~ "His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand doth embrace me."

{Note: SW remembers that after dinner, they engaged in physical relations - SL is apparently right handed}

[SW] 7~~ "I charge you{solemn declaration},
O ye daughters of Jerusalem,
by the roes, and by the hinds of the field,
  {deer family - one roe for each hind- idiom of the day for right
  man/right woman}
that ye do not stir me up,
nor awake my love,
till she {SW's love} pleases."

{Note: This doctrine says that every woman has a free will! - if she does not give it freely, it is not worth having!}

[SW] 8~~ "The voice of my beloved!
  {SW is tone oriented for SL}
Behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains,
skipping upon the hills."

{Note: SW thinks SL moves gracefully whether he actually does or not!}

[SW] 9~~ "My beloved is like a roe or a young hart.
  {SW remembers the beautiful symmetry of SL}
Behold, he standeth behind our wall."

{Note: Her father is dead, her brothers disapproved of SL}

[SW]~~ "He looketh forth at the windows,
showing himself through the lattice {blinds}".

[SW recalling what SL said] 10-13 ~~
"My beloved spoke, and said unto me,
"Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth;
the time of singing is come,
  {fellowship - lovers singing together}
and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land
  {spring is here and love is in the air}.
The fig tree putteth forth her green figs,
and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell.
Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.""

[SW] 14~~ "O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock,
in the secret places of the stairs".

{Note: This explains where they were together in the mountain and house.}

[SW]~~ "Let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice;
for beautiful is thy voice, and thy countenance is beautiful (comely)."

[SW] 15~~ {SW's brothers apparently broke in, caught the lovers and tossed out SL. SW is recalling what the brothers then said} "Catch us the foxes.
The little foxes that spoil the vines.
For our vines have tender grapes."

{Note: This is why SW was in the fields when S came by}

[SW] 16~~ "My beloved is MINE!
And I am HIS."

{Note: He is always with her in her soul! and vice versa - they belong to each other}

[SW] "He feedeth among the lilies".

{Note: This is an idiom - where ever he is, he is surrounded with her love - even when he is eating}

[SW dreams of the SL coming and taking her away from S's palace] 17~~ "Until the day break, and the shadows flee away,
rescue me (turn), my beloved,
and be thou like a roe or a young hart
upon the mountains of Bether."
