Hebrews
Chapter
13 {Note: Philadelphia refers to Category 3 love - friendship - Royal family love one for another.}
{Principal
of Hospitality} {Note: Me is the lesser negative. Not an absolute command as 'ouk' would be. A generous person gives without 'strings' or how/desire for gain. This brings the stranger to your home in hospitality. In the next verse, YOU go to the stranger - in intercessory prayer.}
{Principal
of Intercessory Prayer toward Strangers} {Note: Direct reference was to believers being persecuted by Rome. By application, we are to apply the principal to all strangers in need of our intercessory prayers on their behalf.}
4~~
{Let} marriage . . . {be held as} HONORABLE by all {Note: These sins will personally be judged by God -- not a pleasant thought!}
5~~Let
your 'way of life'/live-style be free {Note: Way of life is probably better here. That emphasizes the mental more than 'life-style' that some could confuse with the outer appearance only. It is what you THINK that matters.} 6~~So that being confident {maximum doctrine in your soul} we say {Isaiah 41:10}, "The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid of what man will do unto me."
7~~Keep
concentrating on the ones {Note: Authority belongs to the pastor when he is teaching. Concentrate on the WORD! And remember! Until you can not forget! Inculcation of the word.}
{Verses
8-9: Stability in the Priesthood} {Note: 'Jesus Christ' emphasizes His humanity. So this verse is discussing our High Priest from the point of the incarnation. It also tells us that the Hypostatic Union will remain for all eternity.}
{Believers
can Also have Stability}
{Verses
10-19: Sacrifices of the Royal Priesthood} {Note: In this dispensation, our 'altar' is invisible - edification complex of the soul - bible doctrine metabolized. In the last dispensation, the Jewish altar was a physical one. Again, this compares the New Priesthood with the defunct Levitical Priesthoods. The Levitical priests actually ate some of the animal sacrifices, today we 'eat' spiritual food.}
{Verses
11-12: Contrast of Sacrifices in Compared Priesthoods} {Note: The blood of the goat and calf were sprinkled on the Mercy Seat. In many cases, the bodies of the animals were burned outside the Jewish encampment. This is a 'reference to'/ 'paraphrase of' Leviticus 16:27.}
{Verse
12:Royal Priesthood's Better Offering - the 'Blood of Christ'}
13~~Therefore/hence, {Note: This is the same idea as 'picking up the cross' and following Him. The Levitical altar was a picture of the cross. The animal's blood was a picture of the blood of Christ. The animal's carcass was taken outside of the camp and burned. Christ was taken outside of Jerusalem and crucified on the cross. Christ is our High Priest and we are a Nation of Priests in this new dispensation. Our altar is bible doctrine resident in our soul. We are encouraged to build a strong altar!}
{Tale
of 2 Cities - Capture of City of Jerusalem by Reversionism {Note: Jerusalem on earth at this time was heavy into religion and legalism that rejected Christ. the headquarters of the Church was moving outside of this city. This means to separate from religionism, legalism, and reversionism. this is a prophecy that the earthly city of Jerusalem has been captured by Satan and within 3 years (70AD) the city would be destroyed.}
{Verses
15-16: 'Sacrifices' as Functions of the Royal Priesthood} {Note: In the Royal Priesthood, our sacrifice is no longer an animal sacrifice. We have other 'sacrifices' in the analogy. If you are habitually positive toward doctrine, you build up an altar in your soul. And on this altar of metabolized doctrine, you offer up praise to the Lord! How? Our first 'sacrifice' is the rebound technique - and is the basis for the filling of the Holy Spirit. This is comparable to the trespass offering and the sin offering of the Levitical priesthood. Next, consistency of intake of doctrine - carrying the cross of Jesus. Next, separate from legalism, religion and reversionism. THEN, when you are prepared, you can offer up praise to the Lord and, by using divine viewpoint, produce divine good and become genuinely generous - in all ways - time, money, compassion, anything that brings glory to the Lord.}
17~~Keep
on obeying them {your right pastor-teacher {Note: You are a Royal Priest and are responsible for your own spiritual development. However, pastor-teachers also have a responsibility to faithfully teach the Word. In our evaluation in heaven, pastors will be evaluated and rewarded or not based on how faithful they were in time. If the pastor is a failure, he will be groaning during the evaluation - but for YOU it is disastrous - loss of rewards in eternity future!}
{A
Principal of Prayer} {Note: RBT says the Greek syntax here clearly indicates that the writer of Hebrews used to be in Jerusalem, probably was one of their pastor-teachers/Apostles (writers of epistles had Apostolic Powers), and left probably under bad terms. From the tone of the entire epistle, many of the Jerusalem believers were in reversionism and 'once mature' believers who go reversionistic are the hardest on a teacher of Grace. Here the writer is giving us the principal for when you have a disagreement with any believer. Forget your differences and pray for the person instead!!}
{Verses
20-25: Dramatic Conclusion}
21~~Train
and equip yourselves for combat {katartizo} {Note: Katartizo is a Greek word used as an idiom in many different areas of life. The fishermen used to say 'mend your nets', in drama was 'tune up your machine' and here, the military use is to train and equip for combat - we are part of the angelic conflict and are living in the devil's world. Doctrine in our soul prepares us for combat. It refers to the entire process of being prepared for the Christian way of life. It means to take in doctrine consistently/daily, listen hard, concentrate, metabolize that which is correct into usable doctrine . . . and then you will be ready to produce divine good - by applying His Word in your soul to life's daily experiences.}
{Importance
and Purpose of this Epistle} {Note: Epistello means a letter and refers to the Epistle to the Hebrews here.}
{Writer
is Familiar with Timothy and we learn Timothy was also Imprisoned} (Note: RBT says this epistle was written shortly after Paul's death so it is not likely to be him (hehe). Well, also the writer extensively used classical Greek which is not Paul's style.} {Note: RBT says this statement also implies that Timothy did make it to Rome before Paul died as Paul requested him to hurry in II Timothy 4:11 and 21. Apparently Timothy was arrested in Rome, but we now find that he has been released. {Note: RBT said Clement wrote about the death of Paul and his subsequent burial just outside of Rome. Some believe he was the author of Hebrews.}
24~~Salute/greet/'pay
respects to' all them {Note: Principal is . . . as with all royalty, mutual respect is a sign of good breeding!} 25~~ His Grace . . . with you all. ************************************************** Joshua_Sozo and Syndein are the Trademarks of Syndein a California DBA of Kenneth Sidley & Associates, Inc., a California Corporation.
