for the Advance to SuperGrace}
1~~For
this reason, therefore
{continues
back with Chapter 10:39 - we are advancing believers}
since
we also keep having and holding
such
GREAT {SuperGrace examples - from Chapter 11} . . .
a
cloud {battalion} of witnesses surrounding us {as examples for us},
having removed every impediment {to the advance}
and
the easily ensnaring sin
{the
sin currently giving you fits - using I John 1:9} . . .
let
us advance with endurance {to SuperGrace}
'in
the conflict/race set before us'/'to the present objective'.
{Note: The 'witnesses' are the Old Testament believers - some of whom are mentioned in Ch 11 - who, based on the doctrine resident in their souls performed actions as great examples for us today.}
{Objective
of the Advance}
2~~
Be 'looking away {from reversionism}'/
concentrating
toward . . . Jesus {Occupation with Christ},
our
Ruler/Leader/Founder
and
the 'One Who brings to Attainment'/Perfector {of SuperGrace}
by
doctrine {that which is believed} . . .
Who
{Jesus}, in exchange
for
His perfect 'always present' happiness {which He had as Deity},
endured
the cross {Efficacious Sacrifice} . . .
having
disregarded the shame/ignominy;
at
the right hand of the throne of God, He has sat down
with
the result that He remains seated {in highest position of honor}.
{The
Encouragement to Advance - Follow the Colors}
3~~For
. . . let yourselves begin thinking about such a One {Christ},
{Who}
having endured such opposition
by
the agency of sinners against Himself;
in
order that you do NOT become wearied/fatigued . . .
periodically
fainting/'becoming feeble' in your minds/souls.
{Note: A negative believer, will peel off when pressured.}
4~~Not
yet have you resisted {combat tested}
to
the point of blood {being 'wounded in battle'},
by
fighting against sin {singular - the Old Sin Nature}.
5-6~~And
so, you yourselves have forgotten
the
'principal of doctrine'/exhortation
which
teaches you as sons
{Proverbs
3: 11-12} "My 'adult son',
do
not make light of the {corrective} discipline
from
the source of the Lord,
nor
become discouraged {becoming discouraged}/faint {in your soul}
when
you are reproved 'under the authority'/by Him. 6~~
For
{you see} whom the Lord loves {agapao-mental attitude love}
He
chastens/disciplines {for carnality}
and
'punishes to the maximum'/'skins alive with a whip' {for
reversionism} every son whom He receives.
{Verses
7-8: Recipients of Divine Discipline}
7-8~~
Because of {constructive} discipline . . . endure!
God
deals/meets with you as with adult sons.
For
what one is a son . . .
whom
the Father {when needed} does not discipline? 8~~
But
if you are without {constructive} discipline,
of
which all {believers} have become participators {sons of God}, then
you are bastards {no Father!} . . .
and
not sons {in the family of God}.
{Note: God is always your father whether He is blessing you for following His will, or disciplining you to train you. The interesting thing is your primary blessing comes indirectly - from the communication to you of bible doctrine. But, all discipline comes directly from the Father . . . because He knows all the facts and is only one truly qualified to discipline you.}

9-10: Illustration of Laws of Establishment; then Application}
9~~
Another point {furthermore},
we
used to have human {of our flesh literally}
parents
{when we were young} . . . for discipline
{What are parents for? To discipline and train the child right!}.
And,
we respected them!
To
a GREATER degree, you will become subordinate to
the
Father of our spirits and continue living!
{Note: Whether you know it or not. Or, like it or not. You ARE under the authority of God the Father. God controls the unbelievers under His laws of establishment through their souls. But, for believers, our contact with God is through our human spirit. We are Royal Family.}
{Note: Human spirits are acquired at salvation. The spirit is the storage place for doctrine.}
10~~For
they {parents}, on the one hand,
for
a short time educate/train/discipline us
according
to what seems best to them.
But,
on the other hand, He {God the Father} . . .
{disciplines}
for our profit,
in
order that we might receive a share of His Holiness.
{Note: Receiving a 'share of His Holiness' refers to the inheritance of a son. Along with the discipline from our heavenly Father, we also receive His blessings in time and for eternity.}
{Exercise
of the Body Compared with Exercise of the Soul and Spirit}
11~~On
the one hand, all discipline while in progress
appears
to be an occasion NOT for happiness,
but
an occasion for sorrow.
On
the other hand, however afterward {after rebound or reversion
recovery} it {the discipline} pays back with interest
from
righteousness/dikaiosune
to
those who have been trained/exercised by it {discipline}.
{Note: The training of the physical body is used as an analogy to spiritual grow here. It hurts when you exercise - as discipline hurts. But, you build great physical muscles if you exercise consistently and seriously. Same with spiritual 'muscles'. They need to be exercised on a daily and consistent basis - and the benefits are tremendous.}
{Verses
12-13: Results of Divine Discipline Amplified} {Isaiah 35-3}
12~~Therefore,
'restore to power the listless/weak hands'/ 'lift up the hands which
hang down' {dejection - hands hang and shoulders droop - a person out
of fellowship -synonym for rebound},
and
the disabled/paralyzed knees.
{Note: Analogy from verse 11 continues. It you are weak physically, you can recover slowly by starting to exercise consistently again. Same with spiritual recovery. Use rebound if carnality is not too serious. If you are in deep reversionism, get back into the daily intake of doctrine and slowly recover.}
{Quote
from Proverbs 4:26}
13~~And
be making straight paths {wheel track} 'by means of'/for your feet
{rebound and positive volition toward doctrine},
in
order that the crippled/lame one {carnal believer under discipline}
be
not dislocated/'out of joint'/'turned out of the way' {God's purpose
for your life} but, rather {supplement}
let
it 'receive healing'/'be restored' {back in fellowship}.
{Message
for Believers, then Unbelievers}
14~~With
all {other believers}, keep on moving to the objective
of
prosperity/peace {maturity and blessings associated with it}
likewise
{for you unbelievers . . . aspire to} the holiness
{salvation
- being set apartedness with God}
without
which {saving grace}
no
one shall see the Lord.
{Doctrines
of Rebound/Rejection of 'Chain Sinning'-'Guilt Complex'}
15~~'Take
personal responsibility'/'habitually look after diligently' {take
care of your own soul/spiritual status - command to rebound}
for
the purpose that no one 'falls back from' the grace of God;
for
the second purpose that not one root of bitterness
{mental
attitude sin - perpetuated the sin - chain sinning}
sprouting
upward {from the 'seed of sin'} . . . causes trouble
{loss
of control of your soul -not controlled by the Spirit}
and
through this {lapse}, many be defiled/contaminated.
{Note: The sin is the seed. It dies when you rebound, but roots come from dead seeds. If you do not forget it, you can have a guilt complex or bitterness toward someone connected with the sin and the roots of many other sins come up. And, when you are chain sinning and in carnality and upset - you will upset those around you.}

16-17: Message to Unbelievers Concerning Esau}
{Verse
16: Esau Rejects Grace - Response of Grace in Verse 17}
16~~That
there be no fornicator {pornos} nor {e}
ungodly/unhallowed/profane
person {an unbeliever},
as
Esau, who himself sold his birthright/primogenitor
for
one 'act of eating'/meal {Genesis 25:27-33}
{Note: Pornos is the Greek word for having illicit sex in connection with idolatry. Here it is used as an analogy for 'spiritual impurity' or being out of fellowship and in reversionism. We know this, because the connective particle 'e' is used when the connected terms are almost synonymous. So the writer is relating 'spiritual fornication' with being an unbeliever(this verse is not on the overt sin of fornication).}
{Note: The example given is Esau. Esau was Jacob's twin brother. But he was not a Jew because he was not spiritually reborn.}
{Verse
17: Grace's Response to Esau's Rejecting Grace}
17~~For
you know {having perfect confidence from what you know} that
afterward {after Esau sold his birthrights for one meal},
even
when he kept desiring to inherit the blessing,
he
was rejected {Esau rejected 'Grace', Grace rejected him}. . .
for
{explanation} he did not find an opportunity for 'change of mind'/repentance,
although he sincerely sought it {his birthright and being used
figuratively for salvation}
with
tears {emotionalism does not have a place in salvation}.
{Note: The illustration here is that salvation is by grace. Anyone still alive can obtain that salvation by a simple act of faith. But, after physical death, if the salvation solution was rejected, then the unbeliever will be rejected at the Last Judgment. And, at the Last Judgment there will be a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth, but it will be for naught. Salvation comes by faith in Christ in TIME! Same for everyone who ever lived.}

18:22 Unbelief Compared to Exodus Generation at Mt. Sinai}
18~~
For you have absolutely NOT {ouk} gone to the 'handling
and
burning fire' mount{Mt. Sinai - as God spoke to Moses}
nor
unto the blackness {gnophos - warning discipline}
even
'injury/hurting/gloomy darkness' {zophos - intensive discipline},
and
the whirlwind/tempest storm {thuella -dying discipline}.
{Note: The writer is now reminding the religious yet unbelieving Jews about the fear and fright of the Exodus Generation as the Mountain was on fire and the earth shook as God gave Moses the ten commandments. The audience knows what the writer is describing!}
{Note:
This also brings us to the Greek words that represent the three
stages of discipline:
1)
Discipline - gnophos- means being scared but uninjured in a dark
room - still have prosperity.
2)
Intensive discipline - zophos - stumbling over a chair in a dark
room or running into the side of the door.
3)
Sin unto death - thuella - means a whirlwind, great fear, represents
dying discipline.}
19~~Also
the blast of the trumpet {Exodus 19:12 and 16},
and
the sound of words {Exodus 19:19};
which
{words} when they heard them,
they
begged {let me out of here!}
that
no more words should be added to them
{I
can not hear any more! stop talking/let me out of here - fear!}

Explanation}
20~~
For they absolutely/continuously could not {ouk}
keep
on bearing what was commanded.
And
even if an animal should touch the mountain {Mt. Sinai},
it
will be stoned {killed by stoning}.
{SideNote: Even animals were subject to capital punishment in the Exodus Generation! SideNote: The last part of verse about 'being thrust through with a dart' was not in the original.}
21~~Also so fearful/terrible {terror causing} was its appearance, that Moses said, "I keep on being terrified and I tremble."
{Note: Apparently Moses said this around the same time as Deuteronomy 9:19 though RBT says it was not recorded there -nor did it have to be! This great fear is analogous to the fear of God's condemnation of unbelievers - religious or otherwise. Some of these Jews in 67 AD are saved. They have accepted Christ as their savior, but then like the dog returning to his vomit, then rejected grace blessing and were in reversionism and 're-climbing Mt. Sinai' - a picture of following the Mosaic Law instead of the New Contract.}

22-24: The Mountain of Grace Blessings}

Datives of Indirect Objects - All the Dative of Advantage to all}
22-24~~But
{in contrast} you have come to Mount Zion,
even
{1} to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem - to your
advantage - {represents phase III blessings in eternity; eternal
security of a permanent dwelling place},
and
{2} to myriads of angels 23~~ in festive/holiday celebration
{absolute total fun time} {literally 10,000 x 10,000 of serving
angels in heaven just waiting to assist us forever}
also
{3} to the church of the firstborn ones {Union with Christ - The
Firstborn}, who have been registered in heaven {as the Royality},
and
{4} to God . . . judge/critic of all {creatures - angelic/human},
and
{5} to the spirits of justified ones, having been completed/perfected
{statement of sanctification} 24~~
and
{6} to Jesus the mediator/umpire/arbitrator
of
the new covenant {see Job 9: 32-33},
and
{7} to the blood of sprinkling, which communicates better things
than Abel {his sacrifice - He was first 'born' Old Testament believer}.
{Note: Mt Zion is in Jerusalem. It represents grace both here and in Galatians. The writer is saying these believers have salvation and have Grace in front of them (Mt. Zion) but they keep wanting to return to legalism and 'spiritual growth through keeping the Law' which was given to them at Mt. Sinai. So they are 'returning to Mt. Sinai' when they should be thinking of Mt. Zion (grace). Psalm 30 tells us that David captured the Mount and made it his home. The blessings given to David are all associated with Mt Zion.}
{Note: These verse also describe the blessings that await all Church Age believers in eternity future. In Job 9: 32-33, Job asks where is the mediator? And, the context indicates that this mediator needs to be equal to both parties - God and man. Who could be qualified? The answer is . . . only the God/Man - our Lord and Savior.}
25-26~~Beware,
that you not reject
the
One Who is speaking {Jesus Christ and His Word}.
For
if they {the Exodus Generation} have not escaped
when
they rejected the one who communicated divine doctrine on the earth
- and they did - to a much greater degree we will not we escape, if
we ourselves reject the One from heaven
{Jesus/salvation
and Bible Doctrine/spiritual growth} . . . 26~~
Whose
Voice at that time shook the earth {at Mt Sinai; Jesus' voice shook
the earth literally, but also shook the Jew's souls}.
Now
He Himself has promised, saying {gist of Haggai 2:6},
"Yet
once more, I {Jesus Christ}
will
shake not only the earth {see Rev Ch 6:12-17 - seal 6 here}
but
heaven also."

27~~'And
this'/'reference to' "Yet once more . . ." {the quote
above} explains the removal of those things which are shaken {Baptism
of fire -Revelation 6:15-16} like {the removal of} . . . discarded
things; in order that those things that can not be shaken {all
believers at the 2nd Advent - Eternal Security}
might
remain {on the earth for the millennium}.
{Note: This is referring to the removal of all unbelievers at the end of the Tribulation. They will be removed from the earth and only believers will enter the millennium. It is also talking currently for this audience. In 3 years there will be great historical disaster, but the mature believers who will rely on doctrine in their soul will do fine.}

28-29: A Practical Example Parenthesis}
28-29~~(Therefore,
because we have received to ourselves
an
unshakable royal kingdom,
let
us have and hold GRACE
{writer
is inviting the reader strongly to JOIN HIM!}!
through
which {grace} we may might render acceptable priestly service unto'
The God {God the Father} with reverence and respect {occupation with
Christ} . . .)
{The
Thought Pick's up where verse 27 left off}
29~~
For also our God . . . {is} a consuming fire.
{Note:
Your choice in life is legalism or grace. Grace is all that God can
DO FOR YOU based on the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Legalism
is any form of human attempt to 'help God' through human works
outside the filling of the Holy Spirit. Legalism represents climbing
Mt. Sinai. Grace represents climbing Mt. Zion!}
