{Superiority
of the Melchisedec Battalion - Verses 1-10}
1~~
For this Melchisedec {a real person}, king of Salem, priest of the
Most High God . . .
the
one having met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the {armies
of the} kings . . .
the
one having blessed him {Melchisedec is ministering to Abraham as his superior!}.
2~~To
whom {Melchisedec}, also Abraham gave a portion - a tenth part of
all {the spoils}.
First
when being interpreted - {Melchisedec means} 'King of Righteousness',
and then also {secondly}, 'King of Salem' which keeps on being 'King
of Peace/Security'.
{Note: The story of Abraham and Melchisedec is in Genesis 14. King of Righteousness is what his name actually means in Hebrew. It stands for Melchisedec's superiority in spirituality to Abraham. King of Salem is the temporal superiority of Melchisedec over Abraham.}
{Melchisedec
- A King/Priest NOT Based on Status of Physical Birth
3~~{Melchisedec},
without {recorded} father,
without
{recorded} mother,
without
genealogical records,
having
neither a birth certificate {literally - beginning of days},
nor
death certificate {literally - end of life},
but
having been caused to resemble the Son of God,
Who
{Jesus} remains a priest perpetually.
{Note: Melchisedec's status as King was earned by HIS military victory. He was NOT born a king either through his Father or his mother - no royalty tables of genealogy. Melchisedec was a real person. He was the King and Priest in a special Priesthood from which the Lord Jesus Christ would become a High Priest forever - superior to all other priesthoods.}
4~~Now {transition} observe/consider how distinguished THIS ONE {Melchisedec}, to whom the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the best part of the booty.
{Note: This was a significant act on behalf of Abraham. It clearly demonstrates superiority.}
5~~And,
those indeed, the sons of Levi,
receiving
the office of the priesthood,
have
a commandment to collect a tenth {tithes} from the people
according
to the {Mosaic} law.
'Which
implies'/'that is' {explanatory}
from
their fellow countrymen, even though,
having
come out of the genitals of Abraham.
{Note: They are the same race, but the other tribes are inferior in that they pay taxes to the tribe of Levi.}
{Royal
Priesthood greater then Levitical Priesthood}
6~~But
the one {Melchisedec}
whose
genealogy is not traced from them {the Levitical Priests}
collected
tithes {taxes - one-tenth of all} from Abraham, and
blessed
him {Abraham} {through doctrinal teaching},
the
one {Abraham} possessing the promises.
{Note: Though Abraham had unconditional promises from God, he still needed doctrine in his soul. And, though Melchisedec is not great by birth, as the Levites were held to be, Abraham paid tithes and received blessings/doctrinal teaching from Melchisedec.}
7~~And
without ANY DISPUTE {dogmatically}
the
inferior in quality {Abraham}
received
blessing {received doctrinal teaching}
by
the agency of the better in quality {Melchisedec}.
{Note: Abraham is one of THE greatest men of ALL HISTORY! Yet he was not the greatest of his own day! Melchisedec is greater in quality in priesthood and in Time (he was the king of the area and Abraham paid a 'tax' to him of ten percent.}
{Superiority
in Longevity}
8~~And
so under these circumstances {circumstances in verse 5},
mortal
men {Levitical men in life} receive tithes/taxes, but,
in
contrast, in that place {meeting of Melchisedec and Abraham},
He
{Jesus Christ} received attestation/testimony
that
He {Jesus Christ} lives {forever}.
{Note: This verse is saying that the Levitical priesthood 'dies' at physical death. But the Royal Priesthood remains on in eternity forever and ever with Jesus Christ as our High Priest forever.}
{Application
- Verses 9-10}
9~~
And so to speak, {kai+hos+epos}, LEVI
the
one receiving tithes/taxes {HIGH in Jewish structure} through
Abraham, also PAID tithes/taxes {to Melchisedec}.
{Note: Kai+hos+epos literally means 'and as I may so say'. It is a Greek idiom meaning a very SHORT and SHOCKING statement will follow . . . and it will shock the Jewish audience!}
10~~
For he {Levi} was
yet
in the 'reproductive organs'/genitals of his ancestor/father
{Abraham} when Melchisedec encountered him {Abraham}.
{Inferiority
of the Levitical Battalion - Verses 11-19 - Parenthetical Phrase in sentence}
11~~Now
if therefore the process of completion {teleiosis - of Christ} was
through the Levitical priesthood - but it was NOT -
(for on the basis of it {Levitical Priesthood} the people had received the enactment of the {Mosaic} law)
what
further need would there be
of
a different category of priest to be activated
according
to the battalion/order of Melchisedec and
NOT
be assigned according to the battalion/order of Aaron
{Aaron
represents the Levitical Priesthood- verse 4-5}?
{Note: The Levitical Priesthood is there. Question is why not just use it in the Church Age?}
{Note: Teleiosis means completion/perfection. The suffix 'sis' indicates this is a process. The 'Body of Christ'/'Church Age believers' complete Jesus Christ- Colossians 2:16-17.}
{Change
in Authorizing Agent of the Law - Change in Law also}
12~~For
when the priesthood is changed/replaced
from
necessity also a change of law {authorizing agent} must occur.
{Note: Levitical priesthood is out, Royal priesthood is in. Mosaic Law is out, a higher law of Spirituality is in. See I Peter 2:9 for more references to the Royal Priesthood.}

13~~For
the One {Jesus Christ} toward Whom
these
things {doctrines of the Royal Family and Priesthood} are spoken
belongs to another of a different kind of tribe {different from Levi
- from the tribe of Judah}
from
which NO ONE has officiated in the past nor will officiate in the
future at the altar of burnt offerings.
14~~For
known to all {even dummies knew this doctrine} is the fact
that
our Lord has descended from the source of Judah
with
reference to which tribe
Moses
has communicated nothing.
{Note: Under the Mosaic Law, only priests from the tribe of Levi were permitted by God to officiate at the altar of burnt offerings. No one from the tribe of Judah could be a Levitical priest. Judah was the royal family from the line of David.}
15~~And
it is still much more evident
according
to the similarity of Melchisedec
another
of a different kind of priest arises.
16~~Who
{the priest of a different kind - Jesus Christ}
has
become with the result that He will always be,
not
{a priest} according to the law of physical requirements,
but
according to the inherent power of indestructible life.
{Note: There were NO spiritual requirements to be a Levitical priest. Many of whom were not even saved, but many more were saved of course. However in Leviticus, we have the scripture on the physical requirements needed to be a Levitical priest. The only requirement to be a Royal priest is to be a believer in the Church Age - in Union with Jesus Christ - our High Priest forever. The implication here is that IF the requirements are physical, then they are terminated with physical death. If the requirements are spiritual, then they remain forever and ever.}
{Note: Jesus has 'indestructible life' meaning He is a priest forever. Everlasting life means one lives forever. But indestructible life guarantees He will be the High Priest forever. And because we are in union with Christ, RBT says we will be His Royal Family of Priests also forever.}
17~~
For: {Psalm 110:4 - addressed to Jesus Christ in eternity past},
"You and only You {Jesus} . . . {are} a priest forever
according
to the battalion/order of Melchisedec."
{Contrast
of Authorizing Agencies - Divine Decrees Versus Mosaic Law}
18~~
For on the one hand a former commandment {Mosaic Law} becomes
annulled because of its powerlessness {in that it authorizes a
defunct priesthood} and uselessness.
19~~For
the {Mosaic} law did not complete the process,
but,
on the other hand,
the
introduction/insertion of a better 'absolute confidence'/hope
through
which we draw close to God.
{Superiority
of the Royal Priesthood in the Church Age - Verses 20-28}
20~~And
inasmuch as NOT 'APART FROM'/WITHOUT the act of taking an oath { God
DID give His oath in eternity past} . . .
{Note: God the Father promised by an oath the Royal High Priest and the Royal priesthood family. God did not give His oath along with the Mosaic Law so again superiority of the Royal Priesthood over the Levitical priesthood.}

Parenthetical Interruption to Remind of the Oath
God Gave Concerning Jesus}
21~~(For
in fact they {Levitical priesthood}
without
the taking of an oath have become priests,
but
He {Jesus} . . . with the taking of an oath,
through
the One {God the Father}
saying
face to face with Him {Psalms 110:4},
"The
Lord has made a solemn oath and will not change His mind, You and
only You . . . {are} a priest forever . . .")
{First
Conclusion}
22~~
. . . by so much {doctrinal evidence} also
Jesus
had become with the result that He keeps on being
a
guarantee/surety of a better covenant {than the Mosaic Law}.
{Superiority
on Basis of Perpetuation - Verses 23-24}
23~~And
they {Levitical priests} - on the one hand . . . many in number -
had become priests {for a limited time};
because,
they . . . by means of death . . .
were
prevented from continuing.
{Note: Levitical priests were priests while they LIVED. When they died another took their place in the Jewish age. But their priesthood died as they died physically. Their priesthood was based on physical birth and physical requirements. Physical death terminated the priesthood.}
{Superiority
of Jesus' Priesthood - Everlasting}
24~~But,
on the other hand, because He remains forever,
He
{Jesus} keeps on having a permanent/unchangeable priesthood.
25~~
For which reason also,
He
{Jesus} keeps on being able to save them forever
that
come 'face to face with'/'approaching to' God through Him.
Always
living, for the purpose of making intercession on behalf of them.
{Note:
This verse gives us the two ministries of Jesus as our High Priest.
First, as our High Priest on the Earth, He made the perfect
sacrifice on the cross for the propitiation for the sins of all
mankind - Himself - as the lamb without spot.
Secondly, now He is ALIVE today . . . in heaven and is seated
at the right hand side of the Father as our High Priest forever.
Jesus makes intercession for us before the Father as Satan
accuses us - stating all of our sins. Jesus acts as our defense
attorney and states that these sins were judged already
(with all other sins} and, under the law of double jeopardy,
the sin cannot be judged again. The Father then throws out
the accusation. Satan never gives up, so this goes on and on.}
26~~For
it was also fitting that we should have such a high priest:
holy,
impeccable,
moral
{being perfectly clean},
having
been separated from the sinners {through resurrection and
ascension}, and having become more elevated than the heavens.
{The
Unique Sacrifice}
27~~Who
{Jesus} does NOT have daily need,
as
those high priests {Levitical priests},
to
keep offering up sacrifice, first in sequence on behalf of his own
sins, and
then
on behalf of those with reference to the people's {sins}.
For
this He {Jesus} accomplished ONCE AND FOR ALL,
when
He offered up Himself {as a sacrifice on the cross}.
28~~For
the law {Mosaic Law as the authorizing agent for the Levitical
Priesthood} authorizes/appoints men . . . high priests . . .
who
have and hold weakness/'Old Sin Nature'; but
the
word of the solemn oath taking {by God the Father},
Which
{Priesthood of Jesus} came after the law,
authorizes
the 'having been perfect' . . . Son . . . forever.
{Note: The decree and oath by God the Father was made in eternity past. But the Levitical priesthood stood for thousands of years before Jesus became man. All priests must be men. So the priesthood of Jesus Christ, historically, came after He became true humanity - after the Mosaic Law.}
