Hebrews Chapter 6
{Continuation
of Parenthetical Interruption
beginning in {1a} a change of mind away from dead works . . . {1b} and {instead} of faith toward God; 2~~ {2a} {both} the doctrine of baptisms . . . {2b} as well as {te} of laying on of hands; {3a} resurrection out from the source of deaths . . . {3b} and eternal judgment. {Note: 'Dead works' is 'human good'. All human good is dead to the plan of God. Because of the 'religious' and erroneous problem of Jews 'keeping the Mosaic Law' for salvation, this was a big problem for the Jewish audience being addressed here.} {Note: 'Te' means 'laying on of hands is a parallel classification with 'baptisms'. Both are 'identifications'. Baptism identifies the Christian with the death of Christ on the cross and the putting away of human good and on to divine good. Laying on hands in the Jewish age was used as the form of rebound in that age. Laying on hands is also used as a form of blessing - touching for blessing during the time of the Apostles. Finally the ordination into the ministry through the laying on of hands - identifying the new person with past pastors. Recognizing his spiritual gift and preparation to be a pastor-teacher.}
3~~Furthermore,
this {advance toward maturity} {Note: God may take them out of this life before they decide to recover. Death comes in God's timing and when He says come home, we come home. The sovereignty of God is emphasized here.}
4-5~~For
you see . . . impossible . . . for those {Note: 'Partners' here refers to the 5 things God the Holy Spirit did for you at salvation . . . including the filling of the Holy Spirit.}
6~~
And having gone astray {into reversionism} {Note: In Greek syntax, when you have a list, to recall the list you only mention the first part of the list. So by placing 'change of mind' here in the Greek, it really refers to the entire list again that is in verses 1 and 2.} {Note: These Jewish believers continued to sacrifice animals in the Temples, which was demeaning the work of Jesus on the Cross. They are also 'Royal Priests' so going in the Temple and coming under the authority of a Levitical Priest by itself is a no-no.}
7~~For
the ground/earth/soil {positive believers}
{Reversionism
(in contrast to Verse 7 - growth)}
9~~
But, beloved ones, we
{Verse
for the Pastor}
{Back
to the Congregation}
12~~
Lest, you become apathetic {toward doctrine}
13~~
For the God when He Himself had promised to Abraham
14~~
when He {God the Father} was saying to Abraham,
15~~
And so, having persisted {in the function of GAP}, {Note: Abraham and Sarah became parents when they were over 90 years old . . . and Abraham was sexually active up into his one twenties.}
16~~
For mankind customarily takes an oath
17~~
By means of which {oath},
18~~In
order that by means of two immutable/unchangeable things {Note: The two immutable things are the Person of God . . . and the Word/doctrine/oath of God in His unconditional promise to Abraham.} {Note: Abraham relied on the promises of God and they were specific. Now our promises are set before us in the Word of God. They are not individual, but the promises of God are set before each one of us . . . waiting to be claimed.}
{Analogies
the Jews of the Day would Easily Understand} {Note: The sea anchor here is what the ship used off shore to keep the ship from ending up on the rocks in a storm. Doctrine is the stabilizer/'sea anchor' of the human soul. And, you can not waiver! Consistent intake . . . and doctrine is dependable.} {Note: The second analogy refers to the veil of the tabernacle. On the Day of Atonement the High Priest put on beautiful dress uniform and gathered the people. The High Priest started with an animal sacrifice. He gathered the blood and carried it into the Holy of Holies - the ONLY day in the year anyone was permitted to enter. The High Priest then sprinkled it on top of the Mercy Seat first for himself and then for the people. This was a picture of the doctrine of Propitiation. God's righteousness and justice were satisfied by Christ on the cross.} {Note: The anchor and the veil together give a picture of TWO anchors . . . one 'right side up' AND the other 'upside down'. The 'right side up anchor' is a picture of the strategic victory of Christ on the cross, baptism of the Spirit, and positional truth - Union with Christ - all coming down from heaven. The upside down anchor is a picture of the phase Two tactical victory of each believer who has doctrine in his soul and applies doctrine to experience - SuperGrace application - having and holding the high ground!}
{SideNote:
These verses pull together the: If any of these are unfamiliar to you, you should obtain the doctrinal information and review. All of these doctrines are important to you at this point!}
20~~'In
what place'/ where the 'advance guard'/point {military point guard/
the up side down anchor} {Note: The place here has a dual meaning . . . the 'shadow' was the Holy of Holies and the reality is the Throne Room of Heaven . . . where Christ is seated today at the right hand side of God the Father.} {Note: End of parenthetical interruption that began in Chapter 5 verse 11.} ************************************************** Joshua_Sozo and Syndein are the Trademarks of Syndein a California DBA of Kenneth Sidley & Associates, Inc., a California Corporation.
