I
Samuel
Chapter
22
{Note:
From Psalm 34, we see what happened between the action of these two
chapters. There we will see that David will recover from reversionism
and will grow again in grace to reach again his SuperGrace status.}
{David's
Sixth and Last Flight}
1~~David
therefore kept on departing from there,
and
'was delivered'/'escaped to'
{the deliverance was from the Lord}
to
the cave Adullam.
And
when his brethren
and
all his father's house
kept
on hearing {shama'} it,
they
went down {there to him}.
2~~And
every one . . . oppressed
{matsowq - under the tyranny of Saul - these are positive to
doctrine and lovers of freedom},
and
every one . . . having a creditor
{nasha' - referring to the maladjusted crowd - coming in they were
social rejects - plan of God includes all people!},
and
every one that was 'embittered of soul' {a misfit}
{the half and half crowd of the first two - a mixture of
discontented people},
assembled
themselves {coming} unto him {David}.
And
he became a prince/ruler {sar} over them.
And
there were with him about four hundred men
{with their families - maybe a few thousand people in all}.
3~~
And David went from there
to
{the city of} Mizpeh/Mizpah of Moab.
And
he said unto the king of Moab,
"Let
my father and my mother,
I
pray/request of you,
{let
them} come forth {from the cave}, and be with you,
till
I know what 'Elohiym/Godhead will manufacture/do {'asah}
{for
me}.
{Note:
RBT says that David's family was related to the king of Moab so
David felt comfortable leaving his family in their care.}
4~~And
he {David} caused them to be brought {in safety}
them
before the king of Moab
{in previous verse David went and got permission first}
and
they lived with him
all
the while that David was in the stronghold/'defense parameter'
{matsuwd - cave complex at Adullam}.
{Introduction
to a Great Chaplin of His Day - Prophet Gad}
5~~And
the prophet Gad kept on saying unto David
{priests were all killed by Saul's order},
"Do
not dwell in peace and prosperity {yashab}
in
the stronghold {cave complex of Adullam}
{when troops are trained they need to move out and take the
offensive - this is God's message to David - they are ready - move
out!}.
Get
out now {yalak},
and
go to the land of Judah.
Then
David departed {as commanded by God's prophet},
and
came into the forest of Hareth
{a small army can take on aggressive action against Saul's larger
forces in a forest - good military tactics here}.
{Note:
Priests teach the written Word of God. Prophets (while this
temporary gift was active) taught the spoken Word of God. Saul killed
all the priests at Nob so now God raises up a prophet to instruct
David. RBT says that I Chronicles 21:9 indicates Gad will be David's
personal Chaplin for the remainder of his life.}
6~~When
Saul heard that David was discovered,
and
the men that were with him,
(now
Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah,
which
was his military command post
{idiom: literally 'having his spear in his hand'},
and
all his 'military staff'/servants were standing about him)
7~~Then
Saul said unto his staff/servants that stood about him,
"Hear
now, you Benjamites
{his staff all came from his own tribe - Doeg the Edomite apparently
converted to Judaism and was considered a Benjamite also}
will
the son of Jesse {David}
give
every one of you fields and vineyards
{reminding all of them that HE (Saul) has prospered all of them (no
credit to God) false motivation},
and
make you all captains of thousands {general},
and
captains of hundreds {regiment or battalion commanders}?"
8~~That
all of you have conspired against me,
and
are none that have showed me
that
my son has made an agreement with the son of Jesse {David},
and
there is none of you
that
is sorry for me {self pity - sign of reversionism},
or
showed unto me that my son has stirred up
my
servant against me
{lying that David is leading an ambush against Saul},
to
lie in wait,
as
at this day?"
9-10~~Then
answered Doeg the Edomite,
who
was set over the servants of Saul
{a high ranking cabinet member},
and
said, "I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob . . .
to
Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.10~~
And
he inquired of Jehovah for him,
and
gave him food/victuals,
and
gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine."
11~~Then
the king sent
to
call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub,
and
all his father's house,
the
priests that were in Nob.
And
they came all of them to the king.
12~~And
Saul said,
"Hear
now, you son of Ahitub.
And
he {Ahimelech} answered,
"Here
I am, my lord { 'adown}."
13~~And
Saul said unto him,
"Why
have you conspired against me (?) . . .
you
and the son of Jesse,
in
that you have given him bread, and a sword,
and
have inquired of 'Elohiym/Godhead for him,
that
he should rise against me,
to
lie in wait,
as
at this day?"
14~~Then
Ahimelech answered the king, and said,
"And
who is so faithful among all your servants as David,
who
is the king's son in law,
and
goes at your bidding,
and
is honorable in your house?"
{Note:
Ahimelech is in the dark concerning the problem between Saul and
David and makes this clear to Saul.}
{Ahimelech's
Declaration of Innocence}
15~~"Did
I then begin to inquire of 'Elohiym/Godhead for him?
Be
it far from me!
Let
not the king impute
{attribute wrong to Ahimelech or his family that he did not do}
any
thing unto his servant,
nor
to all the house of my father.
For
your servant knew nothing of all this,
less
or more."
{Reversionistic
Saul Does not Care - Pronounces Death Sentence on the Innocent}
16~~And
the king said,
"Dying
. . . you shall die {muwth muwth},
Ahimelech,
you, and all your father's house.
{King
Saul Gives Order to Kill Ahimelech But Jewish Army Refuses To Obey}
17^~And
the king said unto the footmen that stood about him,
"Turn,
and slay the priests of Jehovah/God
because
their hand {loyalty} also is with David,
and
because they knew when he fled,
and
did not show it to me."
But
the soldiers/servants of the king
would
not put forth their hand
to
fall upon the priests of Jehovah/God {refused the order}.
{Doeg
has His Own Private Edomite Soldiers Who Do Kill the Priests}
18~~And
the king said to Doeg,
"Turn
you, and fall upon the priests."
And
Doeg the Edomite turned,
and
he caused to fall upon the priests,
and
kill violently on that day
fourscore
and five (85) priests
{idiom: literally 'persons that did wear a linen ephod'}.
{The
City of Priests is Massacred (with only one survivor in following verse)}
19~~And
Nob, the city of the priests,
he
{Doeg with his men} killed violently with the edge of the sword,
both
men and women,
children
and babies on the mother's breasts,
and
oxen, and asses, and sheep,
with
the edge of the sword.
20^^And
one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub,
named
Abiathar, escaped,
and
fled after David.
21^^And
Abiathar showed David
that
Saul had slain Jehovah's/God's priests.
{David's
Reversion Recovery - Taking Full Responsibility for His Own Failure}
22~~And
David said unto Abiathar,
"I
knew it that day,
when
Doeg the Edomite was there,
that
he would surely tell Saul.
I
have occasioned the death of all the persons
of
your father's house."
23^^"Live
you {Abiathar} with me {David} and fear not.
For
he {King Saul} who seeks my soul/life {nephesh}
seeks
your life,
but
with me you will be in safety."
