I Samuel

Chapter 21

{David's flight to Nob}
1~~Then came David to Nob
  {a great city of priests and the location of the tabernacle since it
  was removed from Shiloh. Nob was on the north ridge of the
  Mount of Olives and was within sight of Jerusalem -
  Isaiah 10:28-32 and Nehemiah 11:32. From Nob you could look
  down and see Jerusalem.}
to Ahimelech the {high} priest {this event is circa 1010BC}.
And Ahimelech was shaking with fright at the meeting of David,
and said unto him, "Why are you alone, and no one is with you?

{Note: Ahimelech was trembling at seeing David without his military escort. What could this mean? He knew something strange was afoot. David will cover his fugitive status with a lie. Another sign of reversionism.}

{David Lies in Response}
2^~And David said unto Ahimelech the priest,
The king has commanded me to go on a mission,
and has said unto me,
"Let no man know any thing of the mission
  {lie of a top secret mission}
where I send you, and what I have commanded you.
Furthermore, I have directed
my servants/soldiers to certain geographical positions
  {on reconnaissance - David is lying that he is making Nob his
  command post on this secret mission}.

{David's 'Shewbread Caper'}
3~~"Now therefore what is under {in} your hand'?
Give me {David} five loaves of bread in my hand,
  {says David to deceive the priest - that David has men with him}
or what {food} there is to be found {matsa'}.

{Note: David on the run and in reversionism thinks of his bodily needs. He thinks he needs food and weapons. What he really needs is to get back to relying on the Lord.}

{First of Three Warnings to David of His Reversionism}
4~~And the priest answered David, and said,
"There is not common/profane/unhallowed {chol}
bread under my hand,
but there is /bread of 'set-apartness to God'/
'bread of the holy existence'
  {Qodesh - Old English calls it 'Shewbread'}.
If the young men {David's fictitious patrol}
have guarded themselves
at least from women {illegitimate sex}."

{Note: The Table of Shewbread (Qodesh) is mentioned in Exodus 25:23-30, 37:10-16 and Leviticus 24:5-9. It is made from acacia wood covered with gold. The wood speaks of the humanity of Jesus Christ. The Gold speaks of His Deity. So it foretells the Hypostatic Union of Jesus the Unique Son of God - both pure God and pure humanity in One Being. Bread on the table represents the Mind of Christ - doctrine. 'Man can not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds . . .'}

{Note: The Jews could not eat this bread if you have had illegitimate sex (and later we will see even legitimate sex within the last 3 days).}

5~~And David answered the priest, and said unto him,
"Of a truth {nice way to start a lie!},
we have been restrained from sex with woman
  {idiom: literally 'women have been shut up to us'}
  {there is no 'us' - only David - one word wrong is still a lie}
these three days
  {Exodus 19:15 says even legitimate sex must be withheld for 3 days
  to eat Shewbread},
since we came out on patrol { yatsa' }.
Therefore, the genitals { k@liy - tools, secret parts, or genitals}
of the young men are holy
  {means this all on this fictitious patrol are within the sex restraint
  part of the Mosaic Law},
furthermore, it {the bread} . . . {is} the common way
  {in emergency this bread can be eaten by anyone. David is now
  saying he has an emergency - and they are clean anyway - so
  the priest can give up the bread without problems with the Law},
even if today it was sanctified
  {the Shewbread on the Table of Shewbread}
from the 'secret place' {k@liy - meaning the Tabernacle}."

{Note: k@liy means both genitals, tools, and secret place. So David is using a play on words! Haha The men's 'secret places' are 'clean' by the terms of the Mosaic Law and so is the Shewbread's secret place (only the priests could enter this secret place) clean or holy.}

6~~ So the priest gave him 'that which is sacred' bread.
For there was no bread there
except for the 'bread of the faces'/Shewbread {lechem paniym}
  {plural here - faces, means the bread (representing Doctrine or the
  bread of life) reveals the individual members of the Godhead}
that had been caused to be removed
from the face/presence {paniym} of Jehovah/God,
to replace it with fresh bread in the day when it was taken away.

{Note: There is an exchange of bread going on here. The Shewbread in the priests had been in the Tabernacle before the 'face of Jehovah'. It was replaced with fresh bread. And, Shewbread here literally means 'bread of the Faces' or 'bread of the Presences' - meaning it is before and in the presence of the Godhead.}

{Note: Jesus will address this action in Luke 6:3-4.}

7~~Now a certain man of the staff/servants of Saul
was there that day, being detained before the Lord
  {this man is a believer in reversionism, but this does not mean he is
  not 'outwardly religious' many reversionists are 'very religious' -
  here he would not travel on a Sabbath day - that is one of their
  many religious taboos}.
And his name was Doeg, the Edomite,
the 'cabinet member'/'mighty one' { 'abbiyr}
with responsibility over all the {national} herds
that belonged to Saul.

{Note: Extra-biblical sources say that Doeg was one of the wisest men in Saul' court and one of the greatest scholars of the day. And, will be one of the richest very soon. See also Psalm 52.}

{Verses 8-9: David Needs Weapons and Gets His Final Warning}
8~~And David said unto Ahimelech,
"And is there not here under your hand javelin or sword?
For I have neither taken in my hand my sword
nor my weapons with me, because the mission of the king
was very urgent {lie continues}."

9~~And the priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine,
whom you killed violently
  {God provided the protection and David knew it! Another warning
  to remember God}
in the valley of Elah, behold,
being carefully wrapped in a cloth it is behind the ephod
  {'ephowd - a short coat worn by a priest without sleeves - almost a
  vest - and with meaningful colors:
  Gold - represent deity of Christ; Blue - Humanity of Christ;
  Purple - King of Kings; Scarlett - represents His work on Cross}.
If you will take that, take it.
For there is no other except that here.
And David said, "There is none like that; give it me."
  {means David in reversionism is no longer the same man who killed
  Goliath. The power of the Lord is NOT in David at this time.}

 {David's Fifth Flight - to the Hometown of Goliath!}
10~~And David arose {left there pretty fast!},
and fled that day from the face/presence of Saul
  {referring to the minister of Saul here - a representative of Saul},
and went to Achish the king of Gath.

{Note: Gath is where Goliath was from - I Samuel 17:4. Goliath's sword was recognizable there - Goliath was their own hometown hero! David was going from the frying pan into the fire. Reversionism is inconsistent! Trying to make friends of his enemy and only ends up making enemies of his friends. Makes a knot of everything.}

{Fugitive Hero - Third Stage of David's Reversionism - Operation Madman}
11^~And the courtiers/staff/servants of Achish said unto him,
"Is not this David the king of the land?
  {they consider him king already though Saul really is - or this is
  sarcasm}
Did they not sing one to another
  {responsive singing back and forth between singers - antiphonal
  singing}
of him in dances, saying, 'Saul has violently killed his thousands,
and David his ten thousands?'"

{David Wakes Up and Realizes His Stupidity in coming Here}
12~~And David 'filed' these words/sayings
  {about David the great hero over THEM}
in his 'right lobe'/heart {his thinking center - ran this over in his
  mind and realized his stupidity and danger},
and was extremely afraid of face/presence of
Achish the king/'Hammelech' {melek} of Gath {hometown of Goliath}.

{Note: Melek is the Hebrew word for 'king' or ruler. For the Philistines, they called their rulers 'Hammelech'.}

{David Pretends Madness - Deceit - Continuing Sign of Reversionism}
13~~And he {David} kept on changing/altering
his behavior in their sight,
and feigned/faking himself mad/insane {halal} in their hands
  {the Greeks (Philistines were Greek peoples) avoided crazy people
  because the gods were disciplining them},
and 'scratched markings' on the doors of the gate,
and caused to run down into his beard his saliva/spittle/drool.

{Note: Halal in the piel stem means to praise in Psalm 56:4 it is used this way. In the Hithpoel stem, the same verb - halal - means to feign madness. It was used here for David at the same time in prison when he feigned madness.}

14~~Then said {king} Achish unto his staff/servants,
"You see the man behaves like he is mad {shaga`}
  {does not say he is mad, he says he is 'behaving' like he is mad -
  big difference}
Why have you brought him to me?"

15~~"Deficient of mad men am I (?)
  {he is saying I have a whole staff of mad men! Haha a joke - I don't
  need any more! Greek sense of humor}
that you have brought this fellow {David}
to play the mad man in my presence?
  {humor continues - I see this mad act every day in court! I don't
  need to see more of it!}
Shall this fellow come into my house?
  {implying his family is also filled with madness! }

{Note: Extra-biblical sources (Rabbi's) say Achish's wife and one of his daughters were mad. This may or may not be true, but would add meaning here if it were true!}

{Note: From Psalm 34, we see what happened between the action of these two chapters. There we will see that David will recover from reversionism and will grow again in grace to reach again his SuperGrace status.}
