I
Samuel
Chapter
29
{Verses
1-11: God Gets David Out of His Own Jam}
1~~Now
the Philistines 'totally mobilized'
their
armies to Aphek
{pattern of other Greek States joining for battle}.
And
the army of Israel
bivouacked
by a spring, which is in Jezreel.
2~~And
the rulers of the Philistines
{ceren - literally is the axel of a wheel - the state turns around the
ruler}
passed
on by hundreds, and by thousands {maybe 10,000 men}.
But
David and his men passed on in the rearward of Achish
{Achish and his men are in the back with his 'bodyguard' David
behind him}.
3^^Then
said the generals of the Philistines,
"What
are these Hebrews doing here?"
And
Achish said unto the leaders/princes of the Philistines,
"Is
not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel,
who
has been with me these days, or these years,
and
I have found no fault in him
since
he fell unto me unto this day?"
4^^And
the generals of the Philistines
were
angry with him {Achish}
and
the generals of the Philistines said unto him,
"Make
this man {David} go back,
that
he may go again to his place
which
you have appointed him,
and
let him not go down with us to battle,
lest
in the battle he be an adversary {satan} to us.
For
what if he should reconcile himself
with
his master {Saul}?
Should
it not be with as the head/chief of these men?"
{Note:
They are saying David will turn on them and put them in the middle
of David's men and Saul's men. Note here that the word for
'adversary' is 'satan'. The word Satan does mean the 'adversary' of God.}
5~~"Is
not this David,
of
whom they sang one to another in dances, saying,
'Saul
slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?' "
{Achish
Declared to be a Believer - at Least One Philistine in Heaven Today}
6~~Then
Achish called David, and said unto him,
"Surely,
as Jehovah/God lives,
you
have been noble/upright {yashar},
is
good in my eyes . . .
your
maneuverings with me in the army
for
I have not found evil in you
from
the day of your coming to me unto this day
but,
in the eyes of the {Philistine} rulers, you are not good."
{Note:
Achish was deceived by David but was still a great winner.
Apparently David led Achish to God and he is a believer. David did
not fool the other Philistine heads of state however.}
{Note:
RBT says this is the point David hears this and realizes he is in
reversionism and will start to recover. David realizes he has not
been 'noble and good' in Philistia.}
7~~"Now
therefore return {Achish says to David},
and
go in peace,
that
you do not do/manufacture {'asah}
evil
in the eyes of the rulers {ceren} of the Philistines.
{David,
the Strap-On Artist, Finds it Hard to Accept God's Perfect Deliverance}
8~~And
David said unto Achish,
"But
what have I done/manufactured {'asah}?
And
what have you discovered/found in your servant
so
long as I have been with you unto this day,
that
I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"
9~~And
Achish 'gave a final answer' {`anah}
and
said to David,
"I
know that you . . . {are} good in my sight,
as
an angel/messenger {mal'ak} of 'Elohiym/Godhead.
Notwithstanding
the generals/princes {sar}
of
the Philistines have said,
'He
{David} shall not go up with us to the battle.'
{They see through David and God uses this to remove David from
this complex dilemma of fighting against his own nation}"
10~~"{Achish
to David} Now therefore
rise
up early in the morning
you
and the army of your Lord {'adown - Jesus Christ}
Who
has come with you.
And
as soon as you have {a pre-dawn} revelry
and
have daylight, depart."
11~~So
David and his men/battalion rose up early
to
depart in the morning,
to
return into the land of the Philistines
while
the Philistines ascended {from the plain of Sharon}
to
Jezreel.
{Note:
RBT says Psalm 13 takes place at this time. Explains what happened
to David between these two chapters.}
