I Timothy

Chapter 2
{Challenge to pray for establishment - verses 1-8}
1~~First of all, therefore,
I continually command {a very strong command decision}
that entreaties {personal prayers for personal needs},
prayers {for establishment type prayers - for a strong military, family, police force, etc.},
intercessions, and
thanksgivings . . .
be made on behalf of 'all mankind' . . .

{'All mankind' is limited to Establishment}
2~~ . . . on behalf of Kings and
on behalf of ALL who are in authority {pray for establishment}
in order that we may lead an undisturbed {eremos - outer tranquility} and tranquil {hesuchios- inner tranquility} pattern of life
in all godliness {eusebeia} and
probity/integrity.

{Note: Command to pray for establishment. Eusebeia or 'godliness' is defined as the duty man owes to God in time.}

3~~ This {prayer} is noble {absolute good} and
highly acceptable in the judgement of our Savior God.

[God is Sovereign and He CHOOSES first. He chooses "ALL".]
4~~ The One Who
always wills/desires
that all mankind receive salvation
and advance to the epignosis/full knowledge
of doctrine {the truth}.

[Note: This is a BIG verse here. God is sovereign and His will must be satisfied first. He "calls" everyone! Now if that was all that mattered, than all would be saved. But, there is another part to the puzzle. He requires that we all accept Him by responding with faith of our own.]

[Note: Now the verse just does not stop with salvation. It is God's will for all believers to next put their faith in His Word. He wants us to study and learn divine viewpoint and grow spiritually.]

5~~For you see,
One God {in essence} and
One Mediator {Jesus Christ}
between God {in essence} and mankind -
the Unique Man . . . Christ Jesus.

6~~Who {Jesus} having given Himself
as a redemptive ransom {from the slave market of sin}
on behalf of all {unlimited atonement}.
HIS {GOD THE FATHER} TESTIMONY . . . IN THE SPHERE OF HIS OWN TIMES/DISPENSATIONS.

{Note: The 'blood of Christ' represented:
  Toward God - propitiation . . .
  Toward Man - reconciliation . . .
  Toward sin - redemption.
God the Father cut off the Jewish Age to give testimony as to Who and What Christ is. The testimony is the Royal Family of God.}

{Note: The last sentence is grammatically called an anacaluthen (sp). This is where one clause or sentence stands alone and summarizes the entire thought of the paragraph. Without a verb, this is very strong Greek.}

Note: The doctrine of unlimited atonement means that Christ died for the sins of ALL mankind - believers and unbelievers alike. Then it was solely human volition as to whether or not you would by faith take the salvation solution.}

7~~Into which {dispensation}
I have been appointed a Royal Herald {kerux} and
an Apostle
(I am speaking DOCTRINE . . . I NEVER LIE!).
I am a teacher {didaskalos} to the Gentiles in doctrine . . .
even truth.

{Note: Kerux means a Royal Herald. A Royal Herald was the person closest to the King (Jesus Christ our Lord) who delivered His message.}

{Note: Didaskalos means a teacher in a monologue situation to two or more 'students without portfolios'. They are there to learn under strict discipline.}

{Repetition of the Command to pray for establishment}
8~~Therefore, I have made a command decision
for 'manly men' {aner} in every place to pray
while lifting up devout hands {'pleasing to God' hands} . . .
without anger and dissention.

{Note: Aner means men as opposed to 'mankind'. In context it is saying you need to be a 'real man' to pray. So it is translated 'manly men'. This specifically says for MEN to pray for establishment. Women should also pray for establishment, under the leadership of their right man.}

{Note: 'Pleasing to God' hands is an minonym {sp}/idiom meaning to be in fellowship or filled with the Holy Spirit when praying.}

9~~Likewise, I have made a command decision,
that women should make themselves beautiful
by means of respectable/well arranged clothing . . .
associated with 'inner poise of soul'/modesty/respect for authority and good judgement/soundness of mind;
not with emphasis on high-fashion hair styling or
{not with emphasis} on gold jewelry . . .
either pearls or expensive clothing . . .

{Note: Respectable means NOT to dress as a woman thinks a man wants to see - like a low neckline or high skirts. Dress elegantly and in style to your financial condition - and to YOUR taste. So if you have doctrine, you will dress using your own norms and standards and should end up respectfully dressed. And, women are responders. No woman can love a man she does NOT respect. If she is responding to her right man, she will dress as he would appreciate it - not as the other women would like or as dictated by 'dress designers' of indeterminable sex - many of whom really hate women.}

{Note: In Greek, there are two words translated 'NOT'. The first is 'ou' or 'ouk'. This is an the absolute negative and it means definitely do NOT do this. The other 'me' (sounds like 'may') is ' a primary particle of qualified negation'. In this verse, the translated NOT is 'me'. Therefore, the use of jewelry is not prohibited. It is ok, but do not put emphasis on these items. Emphasis should be on the woman's inner beauty that comes from doctrine in her soul.}

10~~ . . . but for what becomes fitting for women
being promised godliness {synonym for 'SuperGrace status' and resultant inner beauty}
through intrinsic good accomplishments . . .

{Note: Sentence continues at end of verse 15}

{Verses 11-12 - The Woman in Church}
11~~(Woman . . . be learning {from a teacher in authority}
in silence with total/entire/complete subordination.

{Note: This is not only to keep the mouth shut, but to RESPOND to the teacher by concentrating and learning as opposed to REACTING to something you hear but do not like so you 'shut down', you fume, you pass notes to your friends in church - anything but concentrate on the Word and learn doctrine. Talking is thoughtlessness, rude, and rejection of authority.}

12~~Moreover, I DO NOT {ouk} PERMIT a woman to teach {didasko} - to her advantage -
nor {oude} to exercise authority over man . . .
but to be in silence.

{Note: This is the strong negative 'ouk' which means 'absolutely not' compared with the qualified negation 'me' as seen in verse 9 above. 'A Woman' emphasizes the high quality of the woman following this command.}

{Note: 'Didasko' means to teach with authority to a public assembly. In this context, it means a woman is not to teach doctrine from the pulpit in church.}

{Note: Rejecting this command is a strong historical trend that always leads to decline and forming of organizations filled with apostasy.}

{Note: 'Oude' is a strong negative conjunction. This is a very strong set of negative commands.}

13~~ For you see, first Adam was formed {temporal and in authority}, afterward Eve {'Eua' - transliteration of her name after the fall}.

{Note: Adam's body was molded first. Both souls were created at the same time and stored in Adam until Eve was made from Adam.}

14~~And Adam had ABSOLUTELY NOT ONCE been deceived . . .
but although that woman {gune}
had been completely deceived from an outside source . . .
she had come to be in a state of transgression/violation
with the result that she remained in a state of transgression/violation.

{Note: 'Gune' is equivalent to 'Ishshah' in the Hebrew and it means woman. She was easy to deceive because she was in blind arrogance (comes up later and in Genesis 1: 3-6). She was deceived, but she WANTED to do it so her volition was involved and she did sin.}

15~~ In fact she shall be saved through childbearing
{the virgin birth of Jesus})

. . . if they persist in doctrine and
love - maybe they will, maybe they will not -
even sanctification {experiential sanctification} with stability of mind.

{Note: The parenthesis goes from 11 through 15a . . . then 15b continues the thought in verse 10 and is the 'Principal of Feminine Godliness'.
Verses 9, 10 and the end of verse 15 sounds like this combined: Likewise, I have made a command decision,
that women should make themselves beautiful
