Psalms

Chapter 23
{David returned to the Sheep in I Samuel 17:15
  This is a Psalm of the Sheep}

1a~~A Psalm {mizmowr} of David

1b~~Jehovah/God is the One constantly shepherding me.

I {David} can not lack
  {chacer - a mature believer lacks in nothing - this is the testimony
  of a SuperGrace Believer}.

{Note: The New Testament reveals to us that Jesus Christ is the Shepherd. The Good Shepherd John 10:10-11; Great Shepherd (related to our Priesthood) in Hebrews 13:20; and the Chief Shepherd (His future reign) I Peter 5:4. This is a SuperGrace believer talking about Occupation with Christ and recognizing the Celebrityship.}

2a~~He causes me to lie down
in pastures of choice grass.

{Note: This means as a SuperGrace believer, David has prospered by Who and What the Lord is.}

{Note: The Shepherd does the leading. SuperGrace believers wait on the Lord. David was 'losing time' in the palace of Saul so David returned to the spot where SuperGrace food was provided (David was taught doctrine in the fields while he watched the sheep).}

2b~~He {God} leads me beside waters of prosperity/refreshment.

{Note: Water is often used for the Water of the Word. This is David's daily intake of doctrine (GAP'ing it to SuperGrace).}

3a~~He restores my soul {rebound}.

{Note: Even mature believers get out of line. So when David does, he uses the principal of 1 John 1:9, rebounds, and gets back into fellowship with God.}

3b~~He causes me to be lead
in paths/wagon-tracks
{made by wheels} of righteousness
"because of His Person"/"for His Name's sake".

4a~~In addition,
I habitually keep on walking
through the valley of the shadow of death.

{Note: In tending the sheep, death from bear or lion or anything else was a constant possibility. But for a mature believer, death is a shadow - it is God and His Word that are the realities. (SideNote: Much of the Old Testament doctrine was about the coming of the Messiah. This is called 'Shadow Christology' because the reality - Jesus Christ - had not yet come). Shakespeare said quoting this concept, "Cowards die many times, but a brave man dies only once.}

4b~~I will not fear 'anyone who is evil'.

{Note: This expresses what David was thinking when he saw Goliath. In that case, I will not fear an evil person}

4c``For You are with me.
  {RBT did not indicate this is here but it is certainly accurate.}

4d~~Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.

{Note: The comfort comes from bible doctrine resident in the soul of the mature believer. David has a weapon he can use regardless his circumstances. And, of course, in the physical world it is a comfort to know how to use weapons and David knew how to use the tools of the shepherd very well. The rod is used on the wild beasts. The staff has the hook to get the sheep out of trouble.}

5a~~You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
  {God prepares the manna from heaven (bible doctrine). David ate
  daily. He was ready and controlled his pre-battle tensions}

5b~~You anointed my head with oil.
  {this is Purpose in David's life - I Samuel 16:1-13 - David will be
  the king of Israel because God promoted him not because of
  anyone else}

5c~~My cup runs over.

{Note: The 'cup' is the believer's capacity for life. In this case, David is a SuperGrace believer. The doctrine in his soul is so great, he is called a man after the 'right lobe'/heart of God ('as a man thinks in his heart, so he is). David is 24 and the doctrine in his soul is already running over. He has more capacity to love life and share the 'Happiness which belongs to God' more than anyone else in his day. Solomon had the 'rewards' but not the capacity since he fell from doctrine for many years in his life - that is the theme of the book of Ecclesiastes.}

{Note: Abraham believed and it was credited to his account for righteousness. At this point, believers receive a 'cup' in the soul. Paul called it an 'edification complex of the soul'. This is a structure in which doctrine can be poured. One starts with basic doctrines and builds more difficult doctrine upon doctrine until this cup is full/ the edification complex is tall and strong. In David's case, he was called a man after God's own 'right lobe'/heart. David had so much divine viewpoint in his soul, that his cup runs over.}

6a~~Surely 'divine good' {towb}
and 'grace in action'/mercy {checed}
pursue me all the days of my life.

{Note: In SuperGrace, YOU do not look for your blessings! They pursue you! Your right woman will come to you! Business opportunities will come to you! Good family life will purse you . . . social prosperity, sexual prosperity, business prosperity, (spiritual prosperity is the centerpiece). Get the doctrine in your soul
FIRST . . . then you will LEARN to be content regardless your circumstances. Prosperity will pursue you!}

{Note: And this was true of David. He went into reversionism - big time some times - and got the usual discipline from God. But David always returned to the source of his blessings all the days of his life.}

6b~~And I will 'dwell in blessing' {yashab}
in the house of Jehovah/God forever.

{Note: This is David's blessings in eternity future. David was not waiting for this! David knew God could provide blessings for you in time - in the Devil's world. In heaven when you are with Him, it is no contest. God will bless you if you are faithful to Him in time. It is providing YOU happiness in TIME that God takes pleasure in.}
