Psalms

Chapter 83

1a~~A Song {shiyr} or Psalm {mizmowr} of Asaph.

{Note: Asaph was a prophet, musician and poet - see I Chronicles 6:39. He wrote the Psalms 50 and 73- 83 which is actually poetry.}

1b Keep not Your silence, O 'Elohiym/Godhead.

1c Hold not your peace, and be not still,
O 'Elohiym/Godhead.

2 For, lo, your enemies make a tumult
and those who hate You have lifted up the head.

3 They have taken crafty counsel against your people,
and consulted against your hidden ones.

4 They have said,
Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation;
that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

5 For they have consulted together with one consent . . .
they are confederate against you.

6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites;
of Moab, and the Hagarenes; 7
Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek;
the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre . . . 8
Assur also is joined with them.

They have helped the children of Lot.

Selah
  {Selah means singers rest and instruments play on -
  it is a picture of you resting while the Grace of God
  continues on} .

9 Do unto them as unto the Midianites;
as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison.

10~~ Who {Arabs} were destroyed at Endor . . .
who became like dung on the ground.

{Note: This refers back to the great victory of Gideon's men in Judges 7:23.}

11~~Make their nobles like the Raven/Oreb, and like the Wolf/Zeeb
  {annihilation of the southern retreat in Judges 7}
and their princes like Zebah, and like Zalmunna
  {two Arab kings who fled Gideon's troops to the north -
  Isaiah 10:26 also refers to the great slaughter
  of the tribe of Ephraim over these Arabs}.

12 Who said,
Let us take to ourselves
the houses of 'Elohiym/Godhead in possession.

13 O my 'Elohiym/Godhead,
make them like a wheel . . .
as the stubble before the wind . . . 14
as the fire burns wood . . .
and as the flame sets the mountains on fire . . . 15
so persecute them with your tempest,
and make them afraid with your storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame;
that they may seek your name, O Jehovah/God.

17 Let them be confounded and troubled forever;
yes, let them be put to shame, and perish.

18 That men may know that you,
whose name alone is JEHOVAH,
are the Most High over all the earth.
