Chapter 89 (Continued)
{David's Blessings}
25~~I {God} will establish his {David} hand also in the sea
{referring to a good relationship with Hiram King of Tyre - Phoenicia
-a great sea power}.

And his right hand in the rivers
{David defeat of the great powers on the other side of the Jordan
River - Moab, Ammon, and Syria}.

{Source of David's Blessings}
26~~He {David} shall call to Me {God}
{a prayer of thanksgiving by David - all prayer is addressed to the
Father} . . .
You are my Father, my 'El/God ,
and the Rock of my salvation {referring to God the Son}
{taking the subject to God the Son - Whose work is the means of
ALL Salvation}.

{David's Greater Son - Jesus Christ - King of Kings - Fulfillment of Davidic Covenant}
27~~Also I will give to him {David}
My Firstborn {b@kowr} . . .
'higher than'/'The Most High over' {'elyown}
the kings of the earth.

{Note: b@kowr is technical for the "primo-geniture" - privileges of firstborn - three fold - rulership, priesthood, and double portion. Jesus Christ possesses all three. Royalty, priesthood, and the double portion is the Church (His Royal Family). RBT says David's decoration - he calls the 'Order of the Firstborn' means David's offspring will rule forever}

28~~Forever . . . I will guard for him/Him {David/Jesus} . . .
My grace {checed}.

Therefore, My covenant {II Samuel 7:16-17 - Davidic Covenant}
shall 'be permanent'/'stand fast' to Him
{David through Jesus Christ}.

{Note: The Davidic covenant is one means that God uses to reward the greatest believer who ever lived. Moses has a great memorial also. And, Paul will have great reward in heaven, but his is not disclosed. But David has the greatest reward/honor forever and ever! His greater Son, Jesus Christ, is his permanent 'decoration' - King of kings, Lord of lords, Great High Priest forever and ever and ever.}

29~~Therefore, I have appointed his seed {Jesus Christ} forever,
and His throne {David through Jesus}
{David was the source of the Messianic line}
like the days of heaven.

{Verses 30-32: Three Codices of the Mosaic Law
and What Happens if they are Violated}
30-32~~If {the protasis}
his sons {progeny of David} forsake My law
{towrah - referring here to the Mosaic law},
and do not Walk in 'My Judgments' {mishpat - see book of Leviticus }
{Codex 3 - social code - referring to the Laws of Divine
Establishment for any civilized nation } . . . 31~~

if they violate/profane My statutes/ordinances
{chuqqah - see the book of Leviticus - Codex 2 - the spiritual code
- Levitical offerings, Jewish rituals, etc.},

and do not keep My commandments
{mitzvah - see the book of Leviticus - Codex 1 - the moral code -
the 10 Commandments describe the laws related to freedom,
privacy, and property (some sins are mentioned but only as
related to freedom)} . . . 32~~

then {the apodosis}

will I {God} will punish their transgression
with the rod {military disaster},
and their iniquity with calamities/disaster {5 cycles of discipline}.

33~~But with regard to him {David}
I will not void My grace {checed}
and I will not violate My faithfulness.

{Note: God can not change or destroy His essence in any fashion - immutability. You did nothing to get His grace and you can do nothing to lose His grace. But you can do things (sin, evil) and be spanked/disciplined.}

{Reiteration of Verse 33}
34~~I {God} will not violate My covenant,
and I will not alter what precedes from My lips.

{Note: Man's failures can not change grace promises from God because they depend on the Character of God not the character of man.

35~~One thing I Myself have sworn by My holiness
{His Righteousness and Justice} . . .
that I will not lie unto David.

36~~His {David} seed {Jesus Christ} shall be forever,
and His throne . . . as the sun before Me
{every time you see the sun you can count on the fact that Jesus
Christ will reign forever}.

37~~He {Jesus Christ} Himself will be established forever . . .
as the moon, and the witness in the sky . . . is faithful.
{The moon reflects the light of the Sun and the reflection of that
light is a witness - just as the Word of God is a perfect reflection
of the Character of God and reflects the reality of the perfect
integrity of God}

{Now we turn to the Failures of David's son Rehoboam}
{Verses 38-45: Condemnation of Rehoboam}
38``Yet You have rejected, spurned,
and become enraged at Your anointed.

39``You have repudiated the covenant with Your servant.

You have dragged his dignity in the dust.

40``You have breached all his defenses . . .
shattered his strongholds.

41``All who pass by plunder him . . .
he has become the butt/reproach of his neighbors.

42``You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries . . .
and made all his enemies rejoice.

43``You have turned back the blade of his sword . . .
and have not sustained him in battle.

44``You have brought his splendor/glory to cease . . .
and have hurled his throne to the ground.

45``You have cut short the days of his youth . . .
You have covered him with shame.

{Verses 46-52: Repentance of Rehoboam}
46``How long, Jehovah/God {?} . . .
will You hide Yourself forever {?} . . .
{how long} will Your wrath burn like fire?

47``O remember how short my life/time is . . .
why should You have 'created out of nothing' {bara'}
every man in vain?

48``What man can live . . . and shall not see death {?} . . .
can save himself/'his soul' {nephesh}
from the clutches of Sheol/Hades/'the grave' {sh@'owl}?

49`` Lord/ 'Adonay, where is your steadfast love of old {?} . . .
which You swore to David in Your Doctrine/Truth?

50`` Remember, Lord/ 'Adonay,
the 'abuse flung at'/'reproach of' Your servants . . .
that I have born in my bosom . . . {from} many people.

51``How Your enemies have, O Jehovah/God, have flung abuse . . .
abuse at Your anointed at every step.

52`` Blessed . . . {be} Jehovah/God forever . . .

amen . . . amen

{'amen 'amen - means 'I believe' 'I believe' - doubling is very strong
in the Hebrew}.
