Psalms

Chapter 89
{Note: The GREATEST reward ever given to any human being was the Order of the FirstBorn (Jesus Christ). RBT says that when you see Jesus Christ in Heaven, you will be seeing David's great reward. His Greater Son will rule forever and ever! Psalm 89 is the Davidic Covenant applied to an invasion by Egypt - (For Background - see I Kings 14:25:28).}

{Note: This Psalm was written in the reign of Rehoboam - son of Solomon. Rehoboam was young and immature and therefore not a good king. He was not interested in God or His Word and therefore could not Walk in His Ways. Ephraim to the north was lead by Jeroboam and jealous of the tribe of Judea. They lead a revolt against Rehoboam.}

1a~~{Title} A 'Psalm to Teach One How to Prosper through the learning of Bible Doctrine' {Maschil} . . .
    {Maschil is the Hiphil participle of sachal - 'meaning to know or be
  wise'. Psalms 32, 42, 44, 45, 74, 78, 88, 89 and 142 are Maschil
  psalms and they all have doctrine and show how to apply it to
  situations. See also II Chronicles 30:22 and Proverbs 16:20}
of Ethan the Ezrahite.

1b~~I will sing forever of the 'many acts of grace' of Jehovah/God
  {right out of the rubble of the dust of the destruction by Shishak
  of Egypt. This teacher of the Word tells us that loss of wealth is
  not important - it is doctrine in the soul that is important}.

{Note: Israel is permanently wealthy. You can take their money, but you can not take the unconditional promise to David and his descendents that their greater son would rule forever. Their wealth is a spiritual wealth not material wealth.}

1c~~To generation after generation,
I {Ethan} will 'cause to make known'/
teach the faithfulness of Your Mouth.
 {the spiritually mature and wisest man in the world - Ethan will be
  the first to speak - this is the secret to the recovery of disaster -
 to get back to putting your faith in God- and get back to His Word}.

{Note: The author of this psalm is Ethan the Ezrahite. Ezrahite indicates that he was of the tribe of Levi and therefore a teacher of the Word of God. From I Kings 14, we learn that next to Solomon, Ethan was the smartest man in the land of Israel. When Solomon died, he became the smartest in the land (Solomon died at age 60 after reigning 40 years of no war. This psalm was written about the 5th year of the reign of Solomon's son Rehoboam. Rehoboam was a reversionist and because of this, he lost the 10 tribes of Israel in revolt and he lost all of David and Solomon's wealth in an attack by Shishak of Egypt. See I Kings 4:30-31.}

{Verses 2-4: Reference to God's Unconditional Contract with David Forever}
2a~~Because I {Ethan} have taught,
"Forever grace {checed} . . . shall be built up {banah}.

2b~~The heavens {shamayim - the real Holy of Holies},
in them, You {God} will prepare Your faithfulness
  {God is constantly 'alert' in heaven to bless us when promised
  or discipline when His righteousness demands}."

{Now God Speaks through Ethan}
3~~"I {God is now the subject not Ethan}
have 'cut a covenant'/'made a contract in favor of My chosen one,
I, Myself, have made a solemn promise to David My servant.

4~~Forever, I will authorize/'cause to be established'
your {David's} seed/descendent {referring to Jesus Christ},
therefore I will build up {banah}
your throne to all generations.' "

{Note: In spite of the failure of Rehoboam, his son and his son will rule. God gave His Word. He is faithful even when the people are out under the 5th cycle of discipline - in that case, there is no Davidic king - but when there is a true Israel in Israel, the ruler will be from the line of David. And, it will be the everlasting reign of Jesus Christ Who will fulfill this unconditional promise of God.}

Selah
 {Selah means singers rest and instruments play on -
  it is a picture of you resting while the Grace of God continues on}.

5~~And the {angelic creatures in the} heavens
are motivated to praise Your 'Extraordinary Essence' {pele'},
O Jehovah/God.

Furthermore, Your faithfulness
is also in the congregation
of the 'set apart to God ones'/saints {qadowsh}.

6~~For who in the sky can be compared unto Jehovah/God?

Who resembles Jehovah/God
among the 'sons of 'El/God {referring to the fallen angels}?
  {answer - no one - not Satan or any other of the fallen angels}

7~~'El/God {God with reference to His great Power}
is to be 'respected to the maximum' {rab `arats}
in the convocations
of the 'set apart to God ones'/'Holy Ones' {qadowsh}
  {in Job we saw two convocations of the Angels in heaven and
  those are in view here},
and to be receiving worship {yare'}
from all of them {angels} who are surrounding Him.

8~~O Jehovah/God . . .
'Elohiym /Godhead of the armies/hosts who is like you?
  {Rehoboam had forgotten the principal of Establishment to keep a
  strong military - He cut the military budget (an act of evil) so
  when the strong group of armies came up from Egypt there was
  nothing to stop it. He also neglected the study of doctrine in the
  temple. So, you put the two together and you have maximum
  involvement in evil},

A mighty Yahh/God!

Therefore Your faithfulness surrounds You!
  {God has perfect honor and perfect integrity}

9~~You keep on ruling the raging/swelling of the seas.

When the waves rise up, You calm them.

{Note: This is a reminder to Satan of who really rules the Earth. Satan does not control the seas or nature in general. That is still the realm of God.}

10~~You have deliberately broken in pieces
  {daka' - Piel intensive stem}
Egypt/Rahab {Rahab - name of the crocodile symbol for Egypt},
like one who is wounded badly
  {means Egypt was not destroyed, but wounded severely - not by
  the Jewish army, but by God Himself Egypt took the great wealth
  of David and Solomon, but Israel's promised dynasty and land
  grant remain Ethan is reminding Israel that all they lost was
  wealth}.

You have disbursed Your enemies with Your 'Strong Arm'
  {the Strong Arm is the term used for Jesus Christ with emphasis on
  His salvation work. The creation of the universe was easy so is
  called 'finger-work'. But going to the cross is called the 'Arm of
  God'.}.

11~~The heavens are Yours.

Also the Earth is Yours.

As for the world and all it contains . . .
You ordained/decreed {yacad} them.

{Note: God the Father is the author of the Plan. His 'Strong Right Arm' - Jesus Christ is the creator of all the universe and all in it. God rules the heavens and all the planets. But Satan is temporarily the Prince of the Earth until his trial - appealing the verdict of the lake of fire - is completed. Then Jesus Christ will return and rule forever and ever.}

{Palestinian Covenant Mentioned}
12~~The north and the south . . .
You have 'created them out of nothing' {bara'}.

Tabor and Hermon, at Your Name, will shout for joy.

{Note: This is a reference to the land grant - the Palestinian covenant. The north refers to the northern end of the land grant which RBT says is Turkey. The south refers to the southern boarder. Two mountains on either side of the Jordan River - that can be seen for miles - are Tabor (western side) and Hermon (eastern side). They are land marks for the Palestinian covenant marking for all time the land that eventually will belong to the Jews in the Millennium.}

{Hebrew Triptych - 3 Messianic Phrases}
13~~You have an 'Arm with valor/integrity'
  {refers to the Lord Jesus Christ with emphasis on the work on the
  cross for salvation}.

Your hand is powerful
  {refers to the resurrection of Jesus Christ}.

And, High is Your 'Right Hand'
  {refers to the ascension and cession of Jesus Christ sitting on the
  Right Hand of the Father in heaven today}.

{Note: Ethan is reminding the Jews that the same One Who saved you forever can also save you in time. RBT says this is like a person giving you a $100,000 necklace as a gift - and you asking for a paper bag to carry it in! Your salvation forever was the difficult work. Saving a nation in time from destruction is easy in comparison.}

14~~Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne
  {referring to the 1st Advent - the work on the cross preceded the
  everlasting reign of David's greater son}.

Grace and doctrine shall 'precede Your face'/'go before You'
  {before the 2nd Advent - Grace and doctrine are the basis for
  understanding God}.

{Note: Once saved, God's righteousness is imputed to the believer. Therefore God's justice is not compromised when God blesses the believer - no matter how big a stinker that believer is - that is propitiation. 'Grace' is the name of God's plan for all humanity - it is all God can do for all believers because of the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Grace and Doctrine/'His Word' precedes his integrity. Grace is the genius of God. Doctrine is the explanation of the genius of God. The throne here is a Messianic reference to the everlasting rule of Jesus Christ - He is absolute righteousness and absolute justice. God's integrity had to be satisfied before the crown. Therefore, the cross had to come first and precede His everlasting rule.}

{Verses 15-18: Description of a SuperGrace Believer}
15~~ Happinesses . . . to the people who keep on knowing
the sound of the trumpet
  {a strong military provides security to a nation - the only way to
  have peace is to have such a strong military that no one would
  attack - and if in arrogance they do attack, it is a short war}.

O Jehovah/God, they {the army} shall advance/march/walk,
in 'Doctrine {'owr} before You {paniym}'/
'the Light {'owr} of Your face {paniym}'.

{Note: This last part is an analogy. A 'Light is thrown on the Face of God' through bible doctrine studied 'before Him'or 'in His presence'.

{Note: This verse gives us two of the keys of how to preserve a client nation to God. One key is a strong military. The second key is for the individual soldiers having bible doctrine resident in their souls.}

16~~In Your Name/Person {shem} O Jehovah/God,
they shall rejoice all the day.

And in Your righteousness shall they be exalted.

17~~For You, O Jehovah/God,
are the object of glorying of their power.

Because, by Your grace,
You have caused us to be promoted.

{Note: All people need to rely on the Lord. Do not 'push' to get yourself promoted, that is inordinate ambition. You are not truly promoted unless God promotes you. So, wait on Him - His timing is perfect.}

18~~For our shields {magen} . . . {belong to} Jehovah/God.

And our king {Rehoboam} . . . {belongs to} the Holy One of Israel.
  {means that Rehoboam was a believer}

{Note: RBT says it is important to study II Chronicles 12:1-12 to understand this verse. Solomon had made shields of gold that his guards carried. But Shishak took the shields of Solomon from Rehoboam. So Rehoboam tried to fool the people with bronze shields (that shone like gold). But, Ethan knew it made no difference. Shishak could not take the real gold out of Israel - bible doctrine in the souls of beleivers.}

{Davidic Covenant is Reiterated}
19~~Then You communicated in a vision
to Your 'SuperGrace Ones'/'holy ones'/'ones set apart to God'
  {David and Nathan}.

And said, "I have bestowed help upon a hero {David}.

I {God} have promoted/'caused to exalt' one {David}
whom I have chosen from among the people
  {God's man was David (Saul was the people's choice - human
  viewpoint)}.

{God Anoints David as King}
20~~I {God} have discovered David . . . My servant . . .
  {God discovered David as a teenage shepherd out in the fields
  with maximum doctrine in his soul}
with My holy oil . . . . I {God} have anointed him
  {the prophet Samuel did the physical anointment of oil}.

21~~With whom {David} . . . My hand shall be firm.
  {kuwn - a verb of grace promotion - and it does not exclude
  discipline for carnality! when David commits great sins he will be
  severely disciplined!}

My Arm shall also make him strong!

22~~All kinds of enemies {Satan and his policies of evil}
shall not lead him astray.
  {nasha' - means David will not be permanently affected by evil -
  all his life the doctrine in his soul will get him to rebound and
  return to the Light}

And the 'sons of wickedness/
'sons of evil' {attractive reversionist types}
shall not control him.

23~~And I will rout/crush/shatter {kathath}
his enemies before his face.

I will strike down {nagaph} those who hate him.

{Conclusion of Strophe}
24~~Consequently, My faithfulness
and My grace
shall be with him {David}.

And, in My Name,
his horn/authority {symbol of his authority} shall be exalted.
