Chapter 12

1-21: Advancing of Believer to Maturity - Overcome Evil by The Good}
1~~Therefore
I {Paul} urge you,
brethren
{all Royal Family of God},
by
the mercies/'grace blessings' {oiktirmos}
of
The God,
to
'place your bodies under orders'/'present yourself' {paristemi}
as
a sacrifice . . .
living,
holy/'set apart to God' {hagios};
{this
is} well pleasing to our God . . .
your
'rational and spiritual' {logikos}
'sacred
service' {latreia}.
{Note: Paristemi was first used in classical Greek to describe a military maneuver with a double flank attack and destruction of a foe in battle. It came to mean to place yourself beside or under the authority of another.}
{Note: Logos is the word form, which we get logical. Logikos has two meanings, both are applicable here. First of all means to act rationally and secondly, it also means to be spiritual.}
2a~~Also,
stop being molded/conformed {suschematizo}
to
this age {aion}
{meaning to stop following human viewpoint - learn the Mind
of Christ and apply His viewpoint to your Ways of life},
but
be transformed
{metamorphoo - from human to divine viewpoint}
by
the renewing/renovation {anakainosis}
of
your mind {nous}
{means to take in doctrine and replace human viewpoint
with divine viewpoint} . . .
[Note: All humans absorb the viewpoint of their parents, teachers, pastors, friends and even enemies. When we accept their viewpoint and believe it, we metabolize that viewpoint into the norms and standards by which we live and operate. What Paul is teaching us is that we think differently from God. We need to study the Bible, believe what we study, and metabolize God's viewpoint into the norms by which we live. Then He "walks" or "operates" through us and produces Divine Good (only someone who is Devine can produce anything that is Divine). We "Walk according to the More Excellent Ways taught to us by Jesus Christ". It is His Thinking - He receives the glory!]

The God has assigned to each one {believer}

{Note: From the papyri, we learned that pistis in the Koine Greek was used for 'that which is believed' - therefore doctrine. It is also used for faith (our belief in something). You must believe the doctrine is Truth to metabolize it. "Faith" and "that which is believed" are very similar in concept.}

Eite is a classical Greek word used to introduce a subordinate
clause. So a list of certain spiritual gifts will be mentioned.
Before the canon of scripture was complete, God spoke to certain men
directly and they were to teach the people from the oral information
received from God. This was a very rare temporary spiritual gift.}

{Note: Parakaleo means to stand by someone to provide comfort or encouragement.}

contribute with generosity {haplotes}.
{Note: Metadidomi does mean to 'give with'. Here it means to give with others. The person with the gift will be motivated to give whether rich or poor. Now, please remember that all believers are to give of themselves first. Then, once mature, they are to give as God leads them. But, this verse is referring to the special spiritual gift of giving. And, this person is warned to be sure his motivation in giving is correct - not from a desire of approbation, or some form of lust for control or influence. One must give without expectation of 'return' - other than the reward of allowing God to work through you.}
8c~~If
{eite}{one has the gift of}
management/administration
{proistemi} . . .
{manage}
. . . with diligence.
{Note: The gift of administrative services is one of the most common of spiritual gifts. This is the gift given to the people, for example, who serve around the Church.}
{Note: Proistemi means to stand in the front - which came to mean to manage.}
