Amos
Chapter
02
1
Thus said Jehovah/God,
"For
three transgressions of Moab . . . and for four . . .
I
will not revoke it . . .
because
he burned the bones
of
the king of Edom to lime.
2
I {God} will send a fire upon Moab,
and
it shall devour the fortresses of Kirioth.
And
Moab shall die in tumult,
amid
shouting, and with the blare/sound of horns/trumpets.
3
I will wipe out the ruler from within her
and
slay all her officials along with him,"
said
Jehovah/God.
4
Thus said Jehovah/God,
"For
three transgressions of Judah . . . and for four . . .
I
will not revoke it . . .
because
they have spurned
the
Teaching/Law { towrah} of Jehovah/God,
and
have not observed His laws.
They
are beguiled by the delusions
after
which their fathers walked.
5
I will send a fire upon Judah,
and
it shall devour the fortresses of Jerusalem.
6
Thus said Jehovah/God,
"For
three transgressions of Israel . . . and for four . . .
I
will not revoke it . . .
because
they sold for silver
those
whose cause was just/righteous,
and
the needy for a pair of sandals.
7
{Ah} You who trample the heads of the poor
into
the dust of the ground,
and
make the humble walk a twisted course!
Father
and son go to the same girl,
and
thereby profane My Holy Name.
8``
They recline by every altar
on
garments taken in pledge
and
drink in the house of their 'Elohiym/Godhead . . .
wine
bought with fines they imposed.
9
Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them,
whose
height/stature was like the height of the cedars,
and
who was as stout/strong as the oaks
yet
I destroyed his production/fruit from above . . .
and
his roots/trunk from beneath.
10
And I {God} brought you up from the land of Egypt,
and
led you forty years through the desert . . .
to
possess the land of the Amorite.
11
And I raised up prophets from among your sons
and
'devoted ones' {naziyr} from among your young men.
Is
that not so, O people of Israel?"
said
Jehovah/God.
12
But you made the devoted ones drink wine
and
ordered/commanded the prophets
not
to prophesy.
13
Ah, I {God} will slow your movements
as
a wagon/cart is slowed
when
it is full of 'cut grain'/sheaves.
14
Flight shall fail the swift,
the
strong shall find no strength,
and
the warrior shall not save his life.
15
The bowman shall not hold his ground,
and
the fleet-footed {infantry} shall not escape.
Nor
the horseman save his life.
16
Even the most stouthearted warrior
shall
run away unarmed that day,"
said
Jehovah/God.
