Daniel
Chapter
9
{Note:
RBT says dates are important for this section of the Word. In 721
BC, the Northern kingdom went out under 5th cycle of discipline and
the Southern kingdom went under the 4th cycle. Next, in 586 BC the
Southern kingdom went under the 5th cycle of discipline. And, then,
in 516 BC with the rebuilding of the second temple came the
restoration of the Southern kingdom. 516 to 323 BC was the Golden Age
of Doctrine for the Jews of the Southern kingdom. 312 to 164 BC was
the rule of the Seleucids of the previous chapter (included Antiochus
Epiphanies). Next, 164 to 63 BC the rule of the Hasmoneans - the
Hasmonean dynasty- from Judas Maccabeus and his younger brother. In
63 BC Pompey the Great conquered Jerusalem - Romans in the land. 63
BC to 70 AD, the Jews are under Roman control. 70 AD Jews went out
under the 5th cycle of discipline.}
{Verses
1-19: Daniel's Rebound Prayer}
1-2~~In
the first year of Darius {539 BC},
{uncle and father-in-law of Cyrus the Great - Darius rules under
Cyrus' delegated authority}
the
son of Ahasuerus
{'Achashverowsh - this is a title for a former king - not his name},
of
the seed of the Medes,
who
was appointed king
over
the realm of the Chaldeans . . . 2~~
in
the first year of his reign,
I,
Daniel, understood by books
{means that Daniel had been studying the Word as it was in writing
at that time - GAP
in particular Exodus 23:10-11, Leviticus 25:1-4 and 26:34, II
Chronicles 36:20-21
Jeremiah 25:8-12 and 29:10-15}
the
number of the years,
whereof
the Word of Jehovah/God
came
to Jeremiah the prophet,
that
he would accomplish seventy years
in
the desolations of Jerusalem.
{Note:
In Studying Leviticus 26 - particularly verse 34 and following,
Daniel came to understand the Sabbatical year requirement of the Jews
that they had ignored for 490 years (70 Sabbatical years).}
{Daniel's
Rebound Prayer for Israel - a Jewish Age Prayer}
3~~And
I 'set my face'/determined
to
seek by prayer and supplications
to
the Lord/'Adonay 'Elohiym/Godhead,
in
association with fasting,
{fasting means to give up normal activity like eating for more time
for spiritual activity like praying to God or studying His Word}
and
sackcloth,
{represents 'an outer representation to an inner orientation to the
Grace of God' - a relaxed mental attitude - helplessness of the
individual - teaches NOT to be legalistic or materialistic}
and
ashes.
{ashes are left over from the burnt offering of the propitiatory
prayer}
{Note:
Daniel only started this rebound prayer. God breaks it off to give
him a prophecy of the future of Israel. The prayer was finished by
Ezra in Ezra 9:5-15.}
4~~And
I myself kept on praying
{prayer would be repeated by Daniel many times in his lifetime}
unto
Jehovah/God
{Jehovah here is the Father - all prayer is addressed to the Father}
my
'Elohiym/Godhead
{the PLURAL 'Elohiym brings in to view His Essence - Three in
Personality}
and
made my confession, and said,
"O
Lord/'Adonay,
{RBT says is referring to God the Father again here}
the
great
{God's attitude of grace}
and
dreadful/awe-inspiring God/'El,
{God's attitude of holiness in judging}
guarding/keeping
{shamar}
the
covenant
{the 'covenant' is what God has promised the Jews}
and
mercy/'grace in action' {checed}
to
those who keep on loving Him,
and
to those who guard/keep {shamar}
His
commandments.
{Daniel's
National Rebound - Confession of Sins}
5~~We
have sinned/'missed the mark',
{chata' - perfect competed action - in the past his people DID sin
and Daniel is acknowledging this fact to God}
and
have 'committed iniquity'
{means we have 'become a perverted people'}
and
have 'been guilty of espousing unjust causes'/'done wickedly'
{rasha` - a description of following any Way except that which
to Bible tells us is the Way of God - typically liberals fall into this
group - 'men of zeal sincerely following good sounding causes -
without Doctrinal Understanding'},
and
have revolted {against God}
{marad - perfect tense - completed action again - done in the past
- and this action from below is clearly against God},
even
by departing from Your precepts
{mitzvah - referring to 'doctrine given categorically'}
and
from Your judgments
{mishpat technical here for 'doctrine given line by line'}.
{Cause
for All Individual and National Problems}
6~~Neither
have we hearkened unto Your servants, the prophets,
{means to have positive volition to God and His Word - prophets
communicated God's Word until the Canon was compete}
who
spoke in Your Name
to
our kings,
{rulers of national entities}
our
princes,
{divisional rulers with delegated authority of the king - would
be like governors, mayors, judges, etc.}
and
our fathers,
{family heads}
and
to all the people of the land.
{everyone included}
7a~~O
Lord/'Adonay . . . 'The Righteousness'.
{Note:
Ts@daqah is the word describing One of His Characteristics. It is
His Pure and Perfect Righteousness . . . on which all divine justice
is based. Daniel is saying to God 'You are Right in Your punishment
of the Jews at this time.}
7b~~But
unto us 'rejection of your teaching'/'scar tissue of the soul'
{idiom: literally 'confusion of faces'}
at
this day/currently to the men of Judah,
and
to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
{this phrase refers to the Sennacherib invasion when the only Jewish
stronghold left was here}
and
unto all Israel,
who
are near {those Jews close to Daniel}
and
who are far off {those Jews dispersed to other areas},
through
all the countries
where
You have caused them to be thrust out,
because
of their trespass
that
they have trespassed against You.
{Daniel is confessing National Historical apostasy of Israel}
8~~O
Lord/'Adonay,
to
us belongs 'rejection of your teaching'/'scar tissue of the soul'
{idiom: literally 'confusion of faces' - mental attitude on the inside
expressing itself on the outside}
to
our kings,
{the last 4 kings tried to take away the human freedoms of the
nation - 3 putting Jeremiah into jail for his prophecies against
them and their evil activities}
to
our princes, and to our fathers,
because
we have sinned {against You}.
9~~To
the Lord/'Adonay our 'Elohiym/Godhead
belong
mercies/'whole realm of graces functioning'
{racham - God THINKS grace and therefore He always ACTS
grace -plural}
and
'forgives and forgets'
{c@liychah - God THINKS forgiveness and forgets when
it is rebounded 'pardon' is close but it means it is as if the sin
never occurred and that minimizes the fact that Jesus had to
bear the punishment of the guilt of that sin on the cross},
though
we have revolted against Him.
{marad -the 'revolt' of apostasy - negative to God and His Word}
10~~Neither
have we
treasured/'heard
and guarded' {shama`}
the
voice of Jehovah/God our 'Elohiym/Godhead,
to
Walk in His laws,
{application of Divine Viewpoint via Doctrinal intake to experience}
which
He gave us
{nathan - 'give' is a major word of Grace}
by
His servants the prophets.
{one being Jeremiah - see Jeremiah 2 for example}
11a~~Yes,
all Israel have transgressed Your law,
even
by 'the mental attitude of departing' {cuwr},
that
they might not obey/'hear and guard'
Your
voice.
{Note:
Israel's problems always had the same basic cause. First 'mental
attitude idolatry' meaning they became apostate - departing mentally
from their love of God and His Word. Then overt idolatry in their
involvement in the Phallic Cult - which is both being unfaithful to
God and to their spouses.}
11b~~Therefore
the curse is poured upon us,
and
the oath that is written in the law of Moses,
the
servant of 'Elohiym/Godhead,
because
we have sinned/'missed the mark' {against Him}.
{Verses
12-14: Discipline to Israel as the Result
of Unfaithfulness to God}
12~~And
He has confirmed His words,
which
He spoke against us,
and
against our judges/dictators who judged/'dictated over' us,
{the book of Judges is the record of God raising rulers
for Israel in times of temporary emergencies - they are more
'dictators' then 'judges' as we think of judges'}
by
bringing upon us a great evil /'divine judgment'
{5th cycle of discipline} . . .
for
under the whole heaven
has
not been done
as
has been done upon Jerusalem.
{`asah - something out of something - out of their apostasy, God
manufactured the 5th cycle of discipline}
{Note:
They manufactured idols out of wood. God manufactured divine
discipline out of their apostasy.}
{Daniel
Makes a National Confession of Lack of Rebound}
13~~As
it is written in the law of Moses,
{Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 - on the cycles of discipline}
all
this evil/'divine judgment'
has
come upon us
yet
made we not our prayer
{did not 'rebound'/'confess' their sins to God}
before
the Jehovah/God our 'Elohiym/Godhead,
for
the purpose that
we
might turn from our iniquities,
and
be caused to understand Your truth/doctrine.
{Note:
This does not mean they will stop sinning. All people sin. It means
the tools God provided to cleanse themselves of their sins would be
used. In the Church Age, this is I John 1:9 - what RBT calls
'Rebound'. The causative here indicates that only after rebound and
restoration of fellowship of God, can believers understand His Truth/Doctrine.}
14~~Therefore
has Jehovah/God
'was
alert to a situation'/'keeping an eye on it' {shaqad}
concerning
the evil/'divine discipline',
and
brought it upon us.
For
Jehovah/God our 'Elohiym/Godhead . . .
{is}
righteous/'fair and just'
in
all His works
which
He does
for
we constantly 'obeyed not'
{negative volition - did not function under GAP
(Grace Apparatus for Perception)}
His
voice.
15~~And
now,
{AFTER Daniel's National Rebound Prayer}
O
the Lord/'Adonay our 'Elohiym/Godhead,
Who
has brought your people
forth
out of the land of Egypt
with
a mighty hand {Omnipotence of God},
and
has gotten You renown,
{God's operation can only be regarded as 'renown'
since He does all the work}
as
at this day; we have sinned/'missed the mark' . . .
we
have done wickedly.
{operating outside of fellowship - evil and any
'energy of the flesh'}
16~~O
the Lord/'Adonay,
according
to all Your righteousness,
I
beseech You {God the Father},
{all prayer is addressed to God the Father}
let
Your anger and Your fury
be
'turning in another direction'
{shuwb - since Daniel knows the prophecy, he knows God's
wrath will both be turned FROM Jerusalem TO Babylon}
away
from Your city Jerusalem,
Your
holy mountain . . .
because
for our sins,
and
for the iniquities of our fathers,
Jerusalem
and Your people
are
become a reproach to all who are about us.
{Note:
Daniel offers up this prayer based on the Righteousness of God. You
must be brass or very sure of your standing to base your prayer on
the Righteousness of God! Daniel had been studying the Word
consistently for over 30 years now. He was one of the most mature men
spiritually. He particularly seemed to have digested Jeremiah's
teachings very well.}
17~~Now
therefore,
O
our 'Elohiym/Godhead,
'hear,
listen, and obey'
{shama` - imperative mood - must be a mature
believer on strong ground to 'order' God to
act on His Righteousness (see previous verse)!}
the
prayer of Your servant,
and
his supplications,
and
cause Your Face
{title for Jesus Christ the ONLY manifest member
of the Godhead - the Shekinah Glory}
to
shine upon your sanctuary that is desolate,
{means a prayer demanding God to restore the people
to Jerusalem where they can then rebuild the temple where
the Shekinah Glory can shine in the Holy of Holies}
"because
of the Lord/'Adonay"/"for the Lord/'Adonay's sake".
{Note:
The prayer ends by stating that by answering his prayer, God would
be bringing Glory on the Son. This is the principal that all prayer
is addressed to God the Father and offered in the Name of the Son.}
{4
More 'Orders' (Imperative Moods) Addressed to God}
18~~
O my 'Elohiym/Godhead,
incline
Your ear . . .
and
'hear, listen, and obey' . . .
{shama` - imperative mood}
open
Your eyes,
and
behold our desolations . . .
and
the city which is called by Your Name . . .
for
we do not present our supplications
before
You because of our righteousnesses,
but
for Your great mercies/'many acts of grace'.
{Note:
Daniel does not approach God boldly on the basis of his
righteousness (worthless). Instead he approaches God based on His Own
Righteousness (worth everything - and all mercy includes the
Righteousness of God).}
19a~~O
Lord/'Adonay . . . 'hear, listen, and obey'.
{shama` - imperative mood - more orders}
19b~~O
Lord/'Adonay . . . forgive.
{Calach - imperative mood - to forgive and act like it
never happened and never bring it up again -
the firm doctrine of what God does after Rebound}
19c~~O
Lord/'Adonay . . . be caused to 'draw near'
{meaning to regather the people back to Jerusalem}
and
manufacture
{`asah - deliverance out of His Character}.
{Amplification
of what 'Forgive' Means}
19d~~Do
not delay . . .
for
Your own sake,
O
my 'Elohiym/Godhead . . .
for
Your city and Your people are called by Your name.
{Israel means 'Prince of God'}
