II
Chronicles
Chapter
13
1``Now
in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam
Abijah
became king over Judah.
2``He
reigned three years in Jerusalem.
His
mother's name also was Michaiah
the
daughter of Uriel of Gibeah.
And
there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
3``And
Abijah joined battle
with
a force of warriors,
400,000
picked men.
Jeroboam
arrayed for battle against him
800,000
picked men, warriors.
{Commentary
on Revolt}
4-5~~And
Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim,
which
is in the hill country of Ephraim {Ephraim mountain range},
and
said,
'Hear
me, you Jeroboam,
and
all Israel {refers to the Northern Kingdom}. 5~~
Do
you not know
that
the Jehovah/God Elohiym/Godhead of Israel
gave
the kingdom over Israel to David forever
{Point of doctrine - David Covenant in II Samuel 7},
even
to him {David} and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
{salt was used in a ritual making contracts BINDING! Once you
sprinkled the salt that was the same as our signing, dating and
notarizing today - a done deal!}
6~~Yet
Jeroboam the son of Nebat,
the
slave of Solomon - the son of David -
is
risen up, and has rebelled against his lord
{'adown -his right authority at this time}.
7~~And
there are gathered unto him vain men,
the
children of Belial,
and
have strengthened themselves
against
Rehoboam the son of Solomon,
when
Rehoboam was young
and
tenderhearted {stupidly immature},
and
could not withstand them.
8~~And
now you think
to
withstand the kingdom of Jehovah/God
in
the hand of the sons of David?
And
you are a great many {big army},
and
there are with you golden calves {false gods},
which
Jeroboam made you for gods.
9~~Have
you not cast out the priests of Jehovah/God,
the
sons of Aaron - the Levites -
and
have made yourselves priests
after
the manner of the nations/gentiles of other lands?
So
that who ever comes to consecrate himself
with
a young bullock and seven rams,
the
same may be a priest of them that are no elohiym/gods?
{Principal
of Respect for Establishment - Starting with Respect for God}
10~~But
as for us {Southern Kingdom},
Jehovah/God
. . . {is} our Elohiym/Godhead,
and
we have not forsaken Him.
And
the priests,
who
minister unto Jehovah/God,
are
the sons of Aaron,
and
the Levites wait upon their business.
11``They
offer burnt offerings in smoke
each
morning and each evening,
and
the aromatic incense,
the
rows of bread on the pure table;
they
kindle the golden lampstand
with
its lamps burning each evening,
for
we keep the charge of Jehovah/God . . .
our
Elohiym/Godhead,
while
you have forsaken it.
12``See
the Elohiym/Godhead
is
with us as our chief,
and
His priests have the trumpets
for
sounding blasts against you.
O
children of Israel {Northern Kingdom},
do
not fight Jehovah/God . . .
the
Elohiym/Godhead of your fathers,
because
you will not succeed.
13``
Jeroboam, however, had directed the ambush
to
go around and come from the rear,
then
the main body was in front of Judah
{Southern Kingdom - faithful to God},
while
the ambush was behind them.
14``
When Judah turned around
and
saw that the fighting was before and behind them,
they
cried out to Jehovah/God,
and
the priest blew the trumpets.
15``
The men of Judah {Southern Kingdom}
raised
a shout;
and
when the men of Judah {Northern Kingdom}
raised
a shout,
Elohiym/Godhead
routed Jeroboam
and
all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16``
The Israelites fled before Judah,
and
Elohiym/Godhead delivered them into their hands.
17``
Abijah and his army
inflicted
a severe defeat on them;
500,000
men of Israel {Northern Kingdom}
fell
slain.
18``The
Israelites were crushed at that time,
while
the people of Judah triumphed
because
they relied on Jehovah/God
Elohiym/Godhead
of their fathers.
19``And
Abijah pursued Jeroboam,
and
captured some of his cities -
Bethel
with the towns thereof,
and
Jeshanah with the towns thereof,
and
Ephrain with the towns thereof.
20``Jeroboam
could not muster strength
again
during the days of Abijah.
Jehovah/God
struck him down, and he died.
21``But
Abijah grew powerful {waxed mighty}.
He
married fourteen wives,
and
sired/begat 22 sons,
and
16 daughters.
22``The
other events of Abijah's reign,
his
conduct, and his acts,
are
recorded in the story of the prophet Iddo.
{Chapter
14:1 Part of Chapter 13 So here for reference}
{1``Abijah
slept with his fathers
and
was buried in the City of David.
His
son Asa succeeded him as king.
The
land was untroubled for 10 years.}
