II Samuel

Chapter 7 (Continued)

{Verses 18-29: David's Response to the Davidic Covenant}

{David Expresses Grace Orientation - 'What have I done to Deserve
  this Great Promise?}
18~~As a result {of this Unconditional Davidic Covenant},
king David came and sat down
  {no one ever sat down in the tabernacle and no one from Judah
  could enter the tabernacle. So RBT said David went somewhere
  comfortable to pray - somewhere he could think clearly -
  so this is most likely in his office/war office where David went and
  sat down - Principal: prayer depends on mental attitude not
  physical posture or location}
'before Jehovah/God' {idiom meaning David is going to pray}
and he said,
"Who am I {to deserve this} . . .
my Lord/'Adonay . . . Jehovah/God?

And what is my 'house' {how is my family qualified for this?} . . .
that You have caused me to come this far?"
  {meaning David never dreamed he would be king - he was a simple
  shepherd boy - that he would be rich, that he would have social
  prosperity, promotion, military prosperity, sexual prosperity, on and
  on . . . and now the Davidic Covenant - his line would rule
  forever!}

{Note: This is referring to David first recognizing in prayer the grace of God! David's family being given a tremendous grace promise of his family ruling forever - David knows he and his family do not deserve this blessing - and never earned it! That is the Grace of God!}

19~~"However, this was insignificant {qaton} in Your eyes . . .
O my 'Adonay/Lord . . . Jehovah/God.

But You also have spoken/communicated
of the dynasty/house/family of Your servant
with reference to the distant future/
'for a great while to come' {rachowq}
  {rachowq - in the short run will be 400 years of continuous rule of
  the house of David - next, Jesus Christ will reign forever after the
  2nd Advent - that is the long range plan}.
Therefore, this 'law of the Adam' {towrah 'adam} . . . {is}
my 'Adonay/Lord . . . Jehovah/God."

{Note: What is the 'law of the Adam'? Towrah has many meanings. It is used for Old Testament, only the first 5 books, and is also use for 'doctrine'. Here it refers to the doctrine of the Davidic Covenant being fulfilled in the 'Last Adam' - Jesus Christ. It is his greater Son - Jesus Christ in His Resurrection Body Who will reign forever. David's Occupation with Christ/God carried him to tremendous peaks.}

{Note: RBT says that this is where David now understands the LINK between the first Adam and the last Adam - Jesus Christ. RBT says that David now realizes that the Savior of the world will also be the Ruler of the world - forever and ever - and this Person is his greater Son.}

20~~ "Now what more shall David add . . . to speak to You?
  {in other words - 'what else is there I can say' - David is
  overwhelmed by the thought that his line would rule forever - he
  wanted to provide a permanent house for the Lord and the Lord
  turned it around and provided a permanent house for 'David'
  instead! In effect, this is a permanent honor/declaration only given
  ONCE - and that was given to David.}

Because . . . My 'Adonay/Lord . . . Jehovah/God,
You have known { yada`} Your slave/servant."
  {yada` - perfect tense - in eternity past, present, and always . . .
  God has known David}

{The Source of God's Grace}
21~~"Because of'/'For the purpose of'
Your "Word"/'Doctrinal Communication' {dabar} . . .
and according to Your Essence/"own 'right lobe'/heart" {leb}
  {leb- is heart - it refers to His Person - all the Characteristics that
  make up our Creator. Just as the real 'you' is your thinking . . . the
  'heart of God' refers to all that He is also.} . . .

You have manufactured/done {`asah}
all this greatness {g@duwlah} . . .
having caused it to be made known to Your servant."

{Note: The source of all Grace is the Person/Heart of God and it is revealed to us today through His Word.}

22~~"Because You are great . . .
O Jehovah/God . . . 'Elohiym/Godhead . . .
because there is 'not anyone who can compare to You' . . .
neither is there any 'Elohiym/Godhead
  {plural - there are more than one Persons in the Godhead}
except/besides You . . .
according to all that we have heard {shama`} with our ears
  {this is an idiom for the function of GAP (intake and metabolization
  of Doctrine) as it was taught in David's Day - only a spiritually
  mature believer CAN know as much about God as He has revealed
  Himself to us via His Word}."

23`` "And who is like Your people Israel,
a unique nation on earth . . .
whom 'Elohiym/Godhead went and redeemed as His people,
winning renown for Himself
and doing great and marvelous deeds for them . . .
{and} for Your land . . . {driving out} nations . . .
and their gods/'elohiym
before Your people . . .
whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt."

24`` "You have established Your people Israel
as Your very own people forever.

And You, Jehovah/God, have become their 'Elohiym/Godhead."

25`` "And now, O Jehovah/God . . . 'Elohiym/Godhead,
fulfill Your promise to Your servant
and his house forever,
and do as You have promised."

26`` "And may Your Reputation/Name
be glorified forever, in that men will say,
"The Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts . . .
is the 'Elohiym/Godhead over Israel.

And may the house of your servant David be established before You."

27`` "Because You, O Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts,
'Elohiym/Godhead of Israel,
have revealed to your servant, that
You will build a house for him,
Your servant has ventured to offer this prayer to You."

28`` "And now, O Lord/'Adonay . . . Jehovah/God,
You are 'Elohiym/Godhead . . . and Your Words/Doctrines
will surely come true,
and You have made this gracious promise to Your servant."

29`` "Be pleased, therefore, to bless your servant's house
that it might abide before You forever . . .
for You, O Lord/'Adonay . . . Jehovah/God have spoken.

May Your servant's house be blessed forever . . . by your blessing."
