Job

Chapter 08
{Chapters 4-14: The First Debate}
{Chapters 8-10: Debate with Bildad -
  Bildad Implies Job is Getting What He Deserves - Self-Righteous
  Arrogance}

1~~Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, 2~~
"How long will you say such things?

Your words {dabar}s are a blustering wind.

{Note: It is amazing how quickly old old friends will turn on you when things go bad and they are in self-righteousness arrogance.}

3~~Does God/'El pervert justice?
  {requires a negative response - but Bildad is assuming that any
  suffering is punitive and that is not true -
  there is suffering for advancement.}

Does the Almighty pervert what is right?

{Bildad now Judges Job's Entire Family}
4~~When your children sinned {chata'} against Him,

He gave them over to the penalty of their sin {pesha`}.

{Note: Bildad is very cruel and insensitive. In his self-righteousness, he thinks he must be right and therefore Job and his family 'all got what they deserved' as punishment for their sins.}

{Altar Call from Bildad}
5-6~~If you {Job} would look to God/'El,
and if you would plead with the Almighty; 6~~
if you will become pure and upright;
even now He {God} would arouse Himself on your behalf,
and restore you to your rightful place.

7~~Though your beginnings will seem humble,
so prosperous will your future be.

{Note: Implies Job is not 'right with God'. So, if you get right with God all will be well. But the truth is, God uses suffering to test/prove the doctrine in the souls of all mature believers - testing for advancement.}

8~~Ask the former generations, please/'I pray you',
and find out for yourself what their fathers learned.

9~~For we were born only yesterday and know nothing,
because our days upon earth are but a shadow.

10~~Will they not instruct you and tell you?

Will they not bring forth words from their understanding/ heart/'right lobe'?

{Illustration - from Papyrus}
11~~ Can the rush grow up without mire?

Can the flag grow without water?

12``While it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down,
it wither before any other herb.

13-14~~Such is the destiny/paths of all who forget God/'El
  {description of a reversionist}.

Therefore, the hope of the God-less/'El-less shall perish . . . 14~~
whose confidence is fragile,
and whose trust is a spider's web.

{Note: Confidence in something false is fragile and about as supportive to you as a spider's web would be.}

15~~He leans on his web, but it gives way.
He clings to it but it does not hold.

16``He is green before the sun,
and his branch shoot forth in his garden.

17``His roots are wrapped about the heap,
and sees/perceives the place of stones.

18``If he destroy him from his place,
then it shall deny him, saying,
'I have not seen you all.'

19``Behold, this is the joy of his way,
and out of the earth shall others grow.

20~~Surely God/'El does not reject a blameless man?

Nor {will He} strengthen the hand of evil doers.

21``Till He fills your mouth with laughing,
and your lips with rejoicing.

22``They who hate you all shall be clothed with shame.

And the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nothing.
