Mark
Chapter
10
10:1``And
from there, having risen {anistemi}
He
{Jesus} comes into the regions of Judea
and
across the Jordan {River}.
And
again crowds journeying along {sumporeuomai} with Him,
come
constantly to Him,
and
as was His custom {etho} . . .
He
again was constantly teaching them
{this is the common theme of the Gospels - Jesus did many things
in His 1st incarnation - but His day to day activity was to Teach
Doctrine}.
10:2``And,
having come to Him {Jesus},
Pharisees
kept on interrogating {eperotao} Him
whether/'if
{ei} - and it is true {1st class condition} -
it
is lawful for a 'noble man'/husband {aner}
to
'put away'/dismiss/divorce {apoluo} his woman/wife {gune} . . .
in
order put Him to the test {peirazo}.
10:3``And,
He {Jesus} 'had an answer'/'gave a discerning answer
from
the ultimate source of Himself' {apokrinomai} saying to them ,
"What
did Moses command you?"
10:4``And,
they said, "Moses permitted {epitrepo} the writing
a
bill/document {biblion} of divorce {apostasion}
and
'put away'/dismiss/divorce {apoluo} {her}."
10:5-9``And,
Jesus 'had an answer for'/'gave a discerning answer
from
the ultimate source of Himself to' {apokrinomai} them,
"On
account of {pros} your hard-heartedness {sklerokardia},
he
{Moses} wrote to you
the
commandment/precept {entole}. 10:6``
But
from creation's beginning
male
and female . . . He made them. 10:7``
On
account of this, a man shall leave his father and mother
and
will be joined/united {proskollao}
face
to face with his woman/wife, 10:8``
and
the two shall become one flesh . . .
so
that no longer are they two . . . but one flesh . . .10:9``
that,
therefore, which God has joined together . . .
let
not man separate."
10:10``And,
in the house again, the students/disciples
kept
on interrogating {eperotao} Him concerning this.
10:11``And
He {Jesus} says to them,
"Whoever
if {ean}
-
maybe he will, maybe he will not {3rd class condition} -
divorces
{apoluo} his woman/wife
and
marries {gameo} another of the same kind {allos} . . .
commits
adultery {moichao} against her.
10:12``And
if {ean}
-
maybe she will, maybe she will not {3rd class condition} -
divorces
her husband and marries another of the same kind {allos},
she
commits adultery."
10:13``And
they kept on bringing 'little children' {paidion}
to
Him {Jesus} in order that He might touch them.
And,
the students/disciples kept on 'sharply criticizing'/rebuking them.
10:14``But,
Jesus having seen,
became
'righteously indignant'/angry {aganakteo}
and
said to them, "Be permitting the 'little children' {paidion}
to
come face to face with Me.
Stop
preventing . . . for of such ones is the kingdom of God.
10:15``
'I tell you the truth'/
'Point
of Doctrine I am saying to you' {amen},
whoever
'if {ean} not'/'does not' receive the kingdom of God
-
maybe they will, maybe they will not {3rd class condition} -
in
the same manner as a little child,
will
positively not {ou me} go into it."
{Note:
How do little children learn? By faith. Someone whose authority they
inherently respect says 2+2=4 and they believe it and they learn and
grow mentally. Salvation is by faith, not of works. Finally, 'ou me'
are two Greek negative articles. A double negative is the strongest
negative in the Greek.}
10:16``And,
having taken them up in His arms,
He
{Jesus} kept on fervently blessing {eulogeo} them . . .
placing
His hands on them.
10:17``And,
when He was going out into the road,
there
came one running toward Him {Jesus}.
And,
having fallen on his knees {gonupeteo} before Him,
he
was asking, "Teacher, 'good of intrinsic value' {agathos} one,
what
shall I do that I might inherit {kleronomeo}
everlasting
life {aionios zoe}?"
{Note:
Agathos is 'good no matter where you find it'. It is good in itself.
For example, gold. If true gold is found in a diamond ring setting .
. . or in costume jewelry . . . the gold has the same intrinsic value
- it is always good. Jesus always taught 'divine good of intrinsic
value' - and utilized 'divine good thinking' during all His life.}
10:18``And,
Jesus said to him,
"Why
do you call Me 'good of intrinsic value' {agathos}?
No
one is 'good of intrinsic value' {agathos} . . .
except
One . . . God.
10:19``The
commandments you know:
'Do
not commit murder {phoneuo},
do
not commit adultery {moicheuo},
do
not steal {klepto},
do
not give false witness {pseudomartureo},
do
not defraud {apostereo} . . .
honor
your father and mother.'"
10:20``The
man 'had an answer for'/'gave a discerning answer
from
the ultimate source of himself to' {apokrinomai} Him,
"Teacher,
these things . . . all of them . . .
I
have kept/guarded {phulasso} since my youth."
10:21``And,
Jesus, having fixed His searching gaze {emblepo}
upon
him . . .
had
agape love for {agapao} him and said, "You lack one thing.
Go,
sell at once whatever you have and give it at once to the poor
and
you will have treasure in heaven . . .
and
come, make a beginning of 'following Me as a student'
{akoloutheo}."
{Note:
Jesus saw the great potential in this man. If he would stop
concentrating on the 'details of life' - in his case great riches -
he could become a great man. This verse is NOT teaching us that we
must be poor to follow after Jesus. It is teaching us that we all
have to have God and His Word FIRST in our lives . . . or we will fail.}
10:22``
And, he {the rich man},
saddened
{stugnazo} at the Word/Doctrine/Teaching {logos}
went
off being grieved {lupeo} . . .
for
he was holding great wealth/property {ktema}.
10:23``And,
Jesus, having glanced swiftly around {periblepo},
says
to His students/disciples,
"How
with difficulty {duskolos}
will
those who keep on holding wealth/riches {chrema},
enter
into the kingdom of God!"
10:24``And,
the students/disciples
were
astonished/amazed at His Doctrines/Words/Teachings {logos}.
And
Jesus again 'had an answer for'/'gave a discerning answer
from
the ultimate source of Himself to' {apokrinomai}
them
{their unasked question},
"Little
children
{teknon - as a teacher calls a student his 'children' - not spiritually
mature yet},
how
hard/difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!
10:25``Easier
it is for a camel to go through the eye of a needle
{the name of the late gate of a walled city - for travelers to enter
at night}
than
for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven."
10:26``And
beyond measure, they were amazed
saying
to one another,
"Then
who can/'has the power' {dunamai} to be saved?"
10:27``After
having swiftly glanced around them
Jesus
says, "With man . . . impossible {adunatos},
but
not with/near/'in the presence of' {para} God.
For
all things are possible, with/near/'in the presence' {para} of God."
10:28``Peter
began to be saying to Him {Jesus},
"Behold,
as for us . . . we abandoned/'have left' {aphiemi} all {pas}
and
have 'followed after You as students {akoloutheo}!"
10:29-31``Jesus
'had an answer'/'gave a discerning answer
from
the ultimate source of Himself' {apokrinomai},
"
'I tell you the truth'/'Point of doctrine I say to you' {amen},
there
is no one who has abandoned home or brothers or sisters
or
mother or father or children or fields . . .
for
My sake . . . and for the sake of the gospel/'good news', 10:30``
except
he will receive a hundred times as much . . .
now
at this time . . .
homes,
and brothers, and sisters, and mothers,
and
children, and lands . . .
all
with persecutions . . .
and
in the age to come . . . life everlasting . . .10:31``
but
many who are first . . . will be last,
and
the last ones . . . first."
