Song of Solomon

Chapter 8
[SW talking about inexperience-turning shy]
1~~ "O that thou were as my brother,
that sucked the breasts of my mother!"

{Note: SW is saying she wished SL 'had been my brother'. Therefore, she could have loved him forever without censor from her brothers and others.}

[SW] ~~ "When I should find thee without, I would kiss thee
  {this kiss in Hebrew is the experienced kiss of a practiced
  prostitute};
yea, they {her brothers} should not despise you."

[SW] 2~~ "I would lead thee,
and bring thee into my mother's house."
  {formal engagement idiom}

[SW] ~~ "You will teach me."

{Note: Shyness expressed. . . SW is a virgin and feels she is in need of instruction in physical love from SL.}

[SW] ~~ "I would cause thee
to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate."

{Note: This is a female erotic symbol - she would make herself available to him at all times.}

[SW mumbling to SL as he drove away in the chariot]
3~~ "His left hand should be under my head,
and his right hand should embrace me."

[SW] 4~~ "I charge you,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
that ye stir not up nor awake love
until she {love} pleases."

{ACT 5 (8:05- 8:14)}

{RIGHT MAN, RIGHT WOMAN -- EVERYTHING FALLING INTO PLACE - VERY BEAUTIFUL}

[Bystanders in Shulam] 5~~
"Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness,
leaning upon her beloved?"

[SW's mother hears and responds to bystanders] ~~
"I raised thee up under the apple tree."
  {I taught you to be a lady}

[SW's mother] ~~ "There thy mother brought thee forth.
There she brought thee forth that bare thee."
  {I brought her up right! Mother is defending herself}

[SL dialog to SW] 6 ~~ "Impress me
as with a signet ring upon thy heart {right lobe},
as a seal upon your fingers {body - indicates marriage};
for love. . . strong as death."

[SW responds] ~~ "Jealousy. . . cruel as the grave."

[SL ignores her and goes on with his thought] ~~
"Her flames . . . flames of fire,
the intense flame from the Lord."

{Note: Her love for her right man is very intense - word for 'Lord' is the one used when it applies to the believer and un-believers alike- right man/right woman is a relationship God gives to both believers and non-believers.}

[SL] 7~~ "Many waters are not able to extinguish the love."
  {'the love' of all right man/right woman combinations}

[SL] ~~ "Neither can the floods drown it."

[SL] ~~ "If a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be despised."
  {but love can not be bought- it is a gift of God}

[SW's first brother] 8 ~~ "We have a little sister,
and she hath no breasts."
  {too young to marry idiom}

[SW's second brother] ~~
"What shall we do for our sister
in the day when she shall be spoken for?"

[SW's first brother] 9 ~~
"If she be a wall {virgin},
we will build upon her a palace of silver:
and if she be a door {promiscuity},
we will enclose her with boards of cedar."
  {dim view of their sister if she is not a virgin}

[SW] 10 ~~ "I am a wall,
and my breasts like towers."
  {says she is a virgin and ready for marriage}

[SW] ~~ "Then was I in his eyes as one that found grace".
  {says SL is designed by God for her}

[SW]11~~ "Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon."

[SW] ~~ "He let out the vineyard unto keepers."

[SW] ~~ "Every one for the fruit thereof
was to bring a thousand pieces of silver."
  {Solomon was checking his business deal}

[SW]12~~ "My vineyard, which is mine
  {indicates freedom of choice},
is before me."

[SW] ~~ "Thou, O Solomon,
must have a thousand."
  {women in his harem}

[SW] ~~ "And those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred."

{Note: 200 Daughters of Jerusalem -explaining she was one of the virgins in the harem carrying for the wives and concubines of Solomon.}

[SW turning to her SL in front of her brothers]
13~~ "Thou that dwellest in the gardens
  {SL has been in her 'pleasurable memories'},
the companions hearken to thy voice
  {the brothers listen},
caused me to hear it."

[SW to her SL in front of her brothers]
14~~ "Make haste, my beloved,
and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart
upon the mountains of spices."

{Note: Idiom for there will be even greater memories with her right man in the future.}

{THE END}
