to a student - teaches grace discipline}
1~~Consequently,
you
and only you {Timothy},
my
student under academic discipline {teknon}
KEEP
ON RECEIVING INNER STRENGTH/BECOMING POWERFUL
{a command to study, GAP it, and use tools like rebound}
in
the sphere of grace
that
is in The Christ Jesus {Positional Sanctification}.
{Note: Teknon is the Greek word for a child under discipline of the parent and for a student under the authority of a teacher.}
{Analogy
to banking - teaches academic discipline}
2~~And
what things {doctrines}
that
you {Timothy} have heard from the immediate source of me along
with/'in the presence of' many theological students/'qualified
witnesses' {in context - students in Paul's traveling seminary} . . .
you deposit these same things {doctrines}
with
faithful men {responding believers - male or female} -
to
their advantage -
who
by their very nature {men only -potential future pastors}
shall
be qualified to publicly teach other believers also.
{Note: The analogy is to banking. Paul made a deposit with Timothy and others and it 'earns interest'. Timothy is then to teach others including others with the gift of pastor-teacher who will go teach others - earning great 'interest' on the deposit.}
{Note: The teacher teaches the entire congregation. The syntax change of 'certain of whom' or 'who by their very nature' indicates NOT all the 'faithful mankind' will become pastor-teachers . . . only those with the gift of pastor-teacher will teach others.}
{Analogy
to military - teaches self-discipline Verses 3 and 4}
3~~
Bear {Timothy} hardships/'campaign with'/'suffer evil with' me
as
an honorable soldier of Christ Jesus.
{Note: Paul is passing the colors on to Timothy and asks him to be the spiritually strong person of his generation.}
{Warning
to Timothy to stay OUT of Reversionism}
4~~No
soldier
when
serving on active duty {in a military campaign}
becomes
entangles in the functions of civilian life {reversionism - under
the influence of evil}
in
order that he may strive
to
serve and please his commanding officer {Jesus}.
{Analogy
to competing in Olympic type games - teaches blessing and reward for discipline}
5~~Now
if anyone . . .
REALLY
{sarcastically stated} . . . competes in the athletic games -maybe
he will, maybe he won't -
he
does not receive a winner's crown/wreath
unless
he competes/trains according to the rules.
{Note: Under the format of the Corinth Games (which Paul also alludes to in the Corinthian Epistles), the athlete was under very strict conditions. First they had to be a citizen (analogy to being saved). Next they had to agree to the authority of the gym master (analogy to the authority of the right pastor-teacher). Next they had to answer EVERY trumpet call - for team workouts, for dinner, for individual training (analogy to self-discipline to be consistent in your intake of doctrine). And, they were on a strict dietary control (more self-discipline). No leaving the gym for the 10 months of training even for an emergency (more self-discipline). No female contact (more self-discipline). The result was at the end of the 10 months, if they completed the rigid regiment, they were considered worthy to compete. One breaking of the rules and you could not compete! If they WON (NO SECOND PLACE in the race of life!) they were literally set for life! Riches, fame, no taxes, great jobs and responsibilities went with the victory! Second place got NADA!}
{Analogy
to farming - teaches the dynamics of self-discipline}
6~~The
hardworking farmer {works to the point of exhaustion - much
self-discipline} must first receive his share of the benefits/crops/productions/rewards.
{Note: Those operating under grace and the first to receive the benefits of grace.}
{Dynamics
of academic discipline}
7~~CONCENTRATE
on what I say {an order}
for
the Lord {God the Holy Spirit}
will
give you {Timothy and us by extension}
total
understanding in all things {all categories of doctrine}.
{New
Paragraph - 3 Reasons why Pastors Suffer -verses 8-13}
{1-Suffering
to perpetuate occupation with the Person of the Lord}
8~~Keep
in mind/recall to mind Christ Jesus,
having
been resurrected
out
from deaths {plural - 2 deaths on the cross - spiritual/physical},
out from the seed {singular} of David {Jewish Royalty}
according
to my gospel.
{2-Suffering
to disseminate Bible Doctrine}
9~~In
the sphere of which gospel, I {Paul} suffer evil
as
a criminal {though Paul is not!}
even
to the point of being imprisoned
but
the Word of God has NOT been imprisoned/incarcerated.
{Note: They can imprison the person, but not the doctrines from the Word of God - they went forth!}
{Intensification
of blessing when under maximum pressure from the Cosmic system -
principal of UltraSuperGrace}
10~~For
this reason, I {Paul} endure
all
things {all categories of suffering - including imprisonment}
because of the elect
in
order that they may acquire the deliverance
which
{deliverance} is {provided for those who are}
in
Christ Jesus {phase II}
along
with eternal glory {in phase III}.
{Verses
11-13: Paul's favorite hymn,4 First class Conditional clauses}
11~~FAITHFUL
. . . {IS} THE WORD/DOCTRINE.
"For
you see . . .
if we have died with Him {Christ} - and we have -
at the same time also, we shall also live with Him, 12~~
if we endure suffering -and we do {in the SuperGrace Life}-
we shall also rule with Him {a SuperGrace reward in
Eternity Future},
if we repudiate/deny/refuse Him -and we {some of us} do
{reversionism - rejecting bible teaching} - that same One
{Jesus} also will refuse/deny us {rewards in eternity
future}, 13~~
if we {believers in carnality} are unfaithful/believe not {to/in
bible doctrine} - and we {some of us} do - He abides/
remains faithful {where the title of the hymn is taken}."
For
you see, He {Jesus} can not deny Himself
{we
are in Union with Christ and are part of Him}.
{Note: Doctrines of Retroactive and Current Positional Truth. We are identified with Christ in His spiritual death (for our sins) and also are in Union with Him . . . including in His eternal life.}
{Note: This fragment of a hymn references many doctrines: Retroactive Positional truth, Current Positional Truth, Suffering in the SuperGrace life, Ruling with Christ in Eternity Future, Reversionism, loss of SuperGrace rewards in time and eternity for Reversionists, and the doctrine of Eternal Security.}
{Verses
14-26 One Paragraph - Pastor's responsibility - make it clear to the
congregation it is THEIR responsibility before God to listen and
accept what is correctly taught from the pulpit.}
14~~Be
adjuring/'commanding solemnly' {diamarturomai} them {believers in
the congregation} in the presence of The God
that
it is non-beneficial/useless to resist/fight against doctrine and it
leads to the catastrophe/destruction/reversionism of the hearers.
{Note: Diamarturomai means to command them very solemnly . . . as under a great oath . . . or, as if there were a curse hanging over failure.}
{Note: God is present when correct doctrine is taught. He will test you on what was taught. If you did not concentrate, you will fail the test. And, consistent rejection of the Word taught will lead to 'catastrophe' or the ruin of the believers . . . which is what reversionism is all about. It starts with fighting or rejecting the Word.}
{2nd
Responsibility of the Pastor - Accurate Exegesis of the Word}
15~~Strive/'be
diligent' to present yourself
approved
{by testing} to The God
a
teacher/communicator not put to shame {a skillful workman},
accurately and skillfully exegeting the Word {'cut a straight line' -
skillfully handle} with reference to its doctrine {'that which is true'}.
{Note: Old translation of 15 is not an accurate translation, but it sounds so nice and other verses do tell us this is true (but 'study' is not in this verse!) . . . "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."}
16~~But
keep avoiding anti-doctrinal/profane empty talk
for
{the reason that} they will advance {retrogression - moving,
but moving in the wrong direction - reversionism} farther into reversionism/ungodliness.
17~~In
fact {kai}, the word/teaching from them
will
spread like a cancer {gaggraina},
among
whom is Hymenaeus {from I Timothy 1:19-20} and Philetus.
{Note: From the papyri discovered in the early 1900's we learned of the 'emphatic' use of Kai. So here is means 'in fact' instead of 'and' or one of the other 3 uses of kai.}
{Note: Gaggraina from which we get gangrene means a fast-spreading cancer. And, the abnormal cancer cells are among live healthy cells. The false teachers mix in a little cancer with Truth until the cancer finally overtakes the whole body!}
{Note: Hymenaeus was a pastor in Ephesus who had a pleasant personality but was teaching false doctrine and had been under the sin unto death for a few years now. Philetus was another pastor in Ephesus. His choice of evil teaching was that the church was already PAST the rapture and was in the Tribulation now because of the trouble that Ephesus was experiencing.}

18~~Such
ones {Hymenaeus and Philetus}
who
have departed from the doctrine,
saying
that the rapture/resurrection has already occurred
and
{they are} corrupting the doctrine of certain ones {certain
believers in reversionism}.
19~~
However, the solid foundation {doctrine in the Word}
from
the ultimate source of The God
'stands
fast'/'holds its ground', having this seal . . .
The
Lord has acknowledged {recognized in Eternity Past}
those
who belong to Him. In fact, all who use the person of the Lord {for
salvation} withdraw from evil/wickedness.
{Classification
of the congregation}
20~~Now
in a large house {chruch compared to royal palace}
there
are not only gold and silver household furnishings {believers who
are positive},
but
also of wood and of clay {negative believers}
in
fact, there are, on the one hand,
certain
ones who refer to honor {positive toward doctrine}, and, on the
other hand, there are certain ones to dishonor {negative toward doctrine}.
21~~
Therefore, if anyone has cleaned out himself from these
{reversionism and evil} - maybe he will, maybe he won't -
he
shall be a vessel with reference to honor {SuperGrace believer with
maximum doctrine resident in the soul},
because
he has been sanctified {set apart in the plan of God},
and
is useful to the Lord/Master {the 'owner' of the vessel}
having
been prepared for the purpose
of
every good work {divine production/good}.
{Next
Objective of the Pastor-Teacher - to also become a vessel of honor -
addressed to pastor's who are new to the pulpit in particular as
Timothy was a young pastor}
22~~
Now be escaping from those lusts of immaturity
but,
in contrast, be pursuing {a command}:
righteousness
{dikaiosune - here is constant study, study
and eventual Spiritual Growth}
faith
{pistis - that which is believed - doctrine in the pastor's
soul}
love
through the filling of the Holy Spirit {agape love = FHS -
Romans 5:5}
prosperity
{eirene - inner peace - paragraph SG2 blessings}
with
them that call on the Lord {believer's consistent intake of doctrine
in the presence of other believers in the local church}
out
of a pure right lobe/heart {filled with the Holy Spirit}.
{Note: 'Lusts of imaturity' include: prosperity lust, approbation lust, monetary lust and in particular-- pride and arrogance.}
{Paul
is explaining to Timothy, who is rather a weak person at this time,
to avoid Cosmic Believers or Believers outside of Christian
fellowship and need to rebound and live in the Divine Dyna-sphere
Verses 23-26}
23~~
But be excusing yourself
from
{avoid} foolish and undisciplined/'ignorant controversies'
{others telling the pastor what to preach}
knowing
they give birth to useless battles.
24-26~~
NOW, the slave of the Lord {pastor- teacher}
must
not be contentious/belligerent,
but
he must keep on having gracious objectivity
face
to face with all {the entire congregation},
skillful/able
in teaching,
persistent
in spite of evil, 25~~
in
grace orientation {praiotes} . . .
{when
necessary} exercising disciplinary action {paideuo}
toward
those who are in opposition {to doctrinal teaching}
so
that perhaps The God may give them a change of mind
for
the purpose of achieving
epignosis
{full knowledge} knowledge of The Truth/Doctrine 26~~
and
that they may 'sober up'/'come to their senses'
{and
out of reversionism}
and
be delivered of the devil's trap {reversionism and evil . . . means
being in the Cosmic System} . . .
having
been held captive {zogreo} by him {under Satan's authority} with
reference to his plan.
{Note: Praiotes means to be oriented to grace. It is often translated meekness or to be humble. But this really means to be oriented to the Plan of God - Grace. False meekness is a disguise for pride. True meekness is grace orientation. Freedom from Pride!}
{Note: Paideuo is the type of discipline that you would apply to your own small child. It means to instruct under enforced, then genuine humility. And, the word is in the iterative present tense meaning you do not do this always, but only when the congregation needs it. For example, if the sin of the tongue affects others in the congregation, the pastor must chastise the speaker of evil and remove them from the congregation if they do not change.}
{Note: Zogreo - is to be captured in battle. The battle is the angelic conflict.}
