I
Samuel
Chapter
20 {Continued}
20^~"And
I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof,
as
though I shot at a mark."
21^~And,
behold, I will send a lad, saying,
"Go,
find out the arrows.
If
I expressly say unto the lad,
'Behold,
the arrows are on this side of you, take them.
Then
you come for there is peace to you,
and
no harm as Jehovah/God lives {a form of a solemn oath}."
22^~But
if I say thus unto the young man,
"Behold,
the arrows are beyond you.
Go
your way, for Jehovah/God has sent you away."
23^~"And
concerning the matter
which
you and I have spoken of,
behold,
Jehovah/God be between you and me forever."
24^^So
David hid himself in the field.
And
when the new moon was come,
the
king sat him down to feast/'eat meat'.
25^^And
the king kept on sitting upon his seat,
as
at other times, even upon a seat by the wall.
And
Jonathan kept on rising.
Abner
kept on sitting by Saul's side.
David's
place was empty.
26^^
Nevertheless Saul spoke/'communicated categorically' {dabar}
not
any thing that day
for
he thought,
Something
has befallen him {David},
being
impure/unclean . . . surely he {David}
is
not clean {tahowr tahowr}
{Saul's wishful thinking of evil thoughts about David}.
{Note:
This is a ritual uncleanliness here.}
27^^And
it came to pass on the morrow
-
which was the second day of the month -
that
David's place kept on being empty.
And
Saul kept on saying unto Jonathan his son,
"Why
did the son of Jesse {David}
not
come to feast, neither yesterday, nor today?"
28^^And
Jonathan answered Saul,
"Asking
leave of me . . . David earnestly asked leave { sha'al}
to
go to Bethlehem."
{Note:
Principal: Even a strong SuperGrace believer who falls into
reversionism may influence other SuperGrace believers to also fall
into reversionism (here by lying for David).}
29^^"And
he {David} kept on saying,
'Let
me go, I implore you
for
our family has a sacrifice in the city.
And
my brother, he has commanded me to be there.
And
now, if I have found favor in your eyes,
let
me get away,
I
implore you,
and
see my brethren.'
Therefore
he did not come unto the king's table."
30~~Then
Saul's anger intensified against Jonathan,
and
he said unto him,
"You
Son of a Bitch/'SOB' {ben `avah marduwth}
{idiom: literally: son of a perverse/distorted/'bitch (in our slang)'
rebellious woman'},
do
I not know {Saul is expressing his own 'frame of reference'/'norms
and standards'}
that
you have 'chosen from love' { bachar} the son of Jesse
to
your own shame {bosheth},
and
to the shame {bosheth}
of
your mother having the sex from
which
you were conceived { 'em `ervah}!
{second insult. Idiom: literally 'the shame of your mother's
nakedness. This is the greatest of the Semitic insults. It refers to
the copulation which resulted in the birth of the victim - here
Jonathan. It implies the world would be better off if his mother
had never had the sex act that resulted in his conception. So
now, that sex act is being called a great act of shame.}
{Note:
One nations profanity is another nations adjectives! Saul is cursing
at his son for permitting David to go to Bethlehem (Saul thinks
anyway) instead of being within his reach to kill him. Even today
'marduwth' is a strong curse word and you call someone this and you
will be in a fight! Interesting though that Saul is ascribing to his
son, his very own traits at this point in his life! It is Saul who is
in distortion/reversionism and rebellious to the will of God.}
31^^For
as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the ground,
you
shall not receive the establishment {as crown prince}
{Saul realizes that it is God's will that David will be the next king},
nor
your kingdom
{Saul in reversionism can not accept the end of his family's
dynasty}.
Therefore,
now seize him with great violence
and
drag him here unto me,
for
he is doomed to die {ben maveth}
{idiom: literally 'for son of death {is} he'}.
32^~
And Jonathan kept on answering Saul his father,
and
kept on saying unto him,
"For
what reason shall he be slain/'caused to die'?
What
has he done/manufactured {'asah}?"
{Saul's
Reversionism becomes Obvious to the Son}
33^~And
Saul cast a javelin at him
with
the purpose to violently kill him
whereby
Jonathan knew
that
it was determined of his father to slay David.
{Grace
Response}
34^~So
Jonathan arose from the table in a glow of anger,
and
did not eat food/meat
the
second day of the month . . .
for
he was terribly grieved for David,
because
his father had caused him to be {publicly} disgraced.
35^^And
it came to pass in the morning,
that
Jonathan kept on going out into the field
at
the time appointed with David,
and
a little lad with him.
36^^And
he kept on saying to his lad,
"Run,
find out now the arrows which I shoot."
And
as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
37^^And
when the lad was come to the place of the arrow
which
Jonathan had shot,
Jonathan
shouted after the lad,
and
kept on saying, "Is not the arrow beyond you?"
{Note:
From above we saw this was the secret message to David for him to
flee for his life.}
38^^And
Jonathan kept on shouting after the lad,
"Make
speed, haste, do not keep on staying here."
And
Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
39^^The
lad was not aware of anything.
Only
Jonathan and David understood the matter {dabar}.
40^^And
Jonathan gave his artillery
{bow and items having to do with archery}
unto
his lad, and said unto him, "Go, carry them to the city."
{Farewell
Meeting of Right Friends - David and Jonathan}
41^~
And as soon as the lad was gone,
David
rose up out of a place toward the south,
and
fell on his face to the ground
and
bowed himself three times
{three bows to Jonathan - the highest honor of the day},
and
they kissed one another
{a holy kiss of honor - like the French do today},
and
continued weeping one with another
{another sign of their real true friendship - they truly will miss each
others company} . . .
so
David became the greater.
{Note:
At this point, Jonathan was the greater of the two SuperGrace
friends. From this time on, Jonathan will stay with his father and go
into reversionism himself. David will recover from his reversionism
and come back. David always rebounded and recovered. He never let his
failures keep him down and he will become the greater - and David
will be one of the greatest ever.}
42^~And
Jonathan kept on saying to David,
"Go
in prosperity/peace,
{remembering}
we have both
sworn
in the name of Jehovah/God,
saying,
"Jehovah/God shall be between me and you,
and
between my seed and your seed . . . forever
{forever recognizes the royal line will be in the house of David
forever}.
And
he {David} arose and kept going {4th flight of David}.
And
Jonathan went into the city.
{Note:
RBT says this means that Jonathan recognizes that Jehovah is coming
in David's line - so this is a Messianic statement - see Genesis
Chapter 29 - the tribe of Judah (not Jonathan's tribe of Benjamin)
will rule forever.}
{Note:
RBT says between these two chapters, David's reversionism is moving
out into the open. This is the second stage of the reversionism -
operation strap on.}
