Jeremiah
Chapter
19
1~~Thus
said Jehovah/God,
"Go/'set
up a pattern'/'way of life'
and
purchase a potter's
{yatsar - literally 'to form' but as a noun is used for a potter}
earthen
bottle,
and
. . . {go to}
of
the ancients of the people {civil rulers of the people},
and
. . . {go to }
of
the ancients of the priests {spiritual leaders of the people}.
{Note:
This is as close as we come to any reference to the Sanhedrin
Council in the Old Testament.}
2-3~~And
go forth once {only once}
unto
the valley of the son of Hinnom,
which
is by the entry of the east gate,
and
'preach dogmatically in a loud voice' there
the
words that I shall tell you {dabar}, 3~~ and communicate,
"You
Listen and Concentrate {an order}
on
the Word of the Jehovah/God,
O
kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Thus
said the Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts,
the
Elohiym/Godhead of Israel,
'Behold,
I {God} will cause to bring evil {5th cycle of discipline}
upon
this place {Gehenna and Jerusalem},
the
which whosoever is in the act of hearing,
he
will be shocked
{idiom: literally 'his ears shall tingle/ring' -
like after a gun shot today}!'
{Note:
The valley of the son of Hinnom was the border between Tribe of
Judah and Tribe of Benjamin. Both tribes are to the south. The area
is also called Ge-hinnom which became a fire burdened garbage dump -
from which Gehenna/'hell' is associated. The valley is also known as
Tophet (see verse 6 below) and is renamed the valley of slaughter. }
{Note:
Papers have been written on the 'East Gate'. Why go south through
the East Gate? Answer - it is the pottery gate. It was called this
because it was near the pottery factory Jeremiah 18: 2-4. Later
called the Fountain Gate in Nehemiah when it was reconstructed.}
{Note:
Dabar is one of three or four words Jeremiah uses for communication.
It means to 'arrange thoughts in order' and then communicate
categorically' - emphasizes preparation of the speech.}
4~~"Because
they have 'rejected as their own'/forsaken Me,
and
have 'lost track
of
the purpose of' this place {the Temple and Jerusalem},
and
have burned 'animal or human fat'
in
it {in the Temple itself - Manasseh did this the first time}
unto
other 'elohiym/gods . . .
whom
{God and His Word}
neither
they nor their fathers have known
{both generations were minus Doctrine -
reason for 5th cycle to come},
nor
the kings of Judah,
and
have filled this place {both the valley and the temple}
with
the blood of innocents
{human sacrifice in the Phallic Cult right
in the Temple of the Lord!}."
{Note:
Jeremiah have the sermon twice - once in the valley and once in the
Temple. We are given a summary of both messages. Apparently, the
apostasy has gotten so bad; they are now practicing idolatry right in
the Temple.}
{Amplification
of Verse 4 - God NEVER Condoned Human Sacrifice}
5~~"They
have carefully built {banah}
also
the high places of Baal {Phallic Cult practiced on the high hills},
to
burn their sons with fire {human sacrifice - literally did this}
for
burnt offerings unto Baal,
which
I commanded not,
nor
spoke it,
neither
came it into My mind."
6~~"Therefore,
behold,
the
days 'constantly approach' {each day brings it nearer},"
said
Jehovah/God,
"that
this place shall no more be called Tophet
{name was 'screamed' when said - means the 'beating of a drum'},
nor
The valley of the son of Hinnom,
but
The valley of 'slaughter in a military battle' {haregah}."
{Note:
Haregah is the Hebrew word meaning not only a slaughter, but a
slaughter in a great military battle. This is referring to a future
loss of the army of Judah to the Chaldean army.}
{Administration
of 5th Cycle of Discipline}
7~~"And
I {God} will 'take a good policy and make it bad'
{idiom: literally 'make empty/void the counsel'}
of
Judah and Jerusalem in this place.
And
I will cause them to fall
by
the sword {military disaster - not ready for war}
before
their enemies,
and
by the hands of them
that
seek their souls {nephesh}
{this really refers to slavery - the Chaldeans wanted the
survivors as slaves}.
And
the corpses of this people I shall give to be meat
for
the buzzards/fowls of the heaven,
and
for the beasts of the earth."
{Note:
Free nations follow the Laws of Establishment. They have the free
will to continue do so, or turn away from the laws of establishment.
Here, Judah moved from good foreign and domestic policies to poor
policies. 'Never go down to Egypt (the place of their slavery) for
help - poor foreign policy.' Their poor foreign policy makes their
ability to save themselves impossible. So, by not following God's
laws, He 'causes' them to be destroyed militarily.}
{Verses
8-9: Double Discipline of 5th Cycle of Discipline}
8~~"And
I will 'appoint on the basis of principal' {suwm}
this
city 'an object of amazement' {shammah} and derision.
Every
one that passes by {the ruins of Jerusalem}
shall
be utterly amazed
{at the city being magnificent in its destroyed state}
and
'hiss in contempt'
because
of the calamities thereof."
9~~"And
I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons
and
the flesh of their daughters,
and
they shall eat every one
the
flesh of his friend {category 3 love gone}
in
the siege and oppression/distress {586 BC this occurs},
wherewith
their enemies,
and
they that seek their lives,
shall
cause to oppress them."
{Note:
Food shortage in the siege of Jerusalem. See also Leviticus 26:29
and Deuteronomy 28:53. Before the 5th cycle these people were willing
to sacrifice their children in the Phallic Cult. Now they eat their
children in desperation and are shocked by it. Principal: national
catastrophe can bring a country back to reality. RBT says that God
sets up laws. If the people refuse to follow His laws, then certain
results will come - this is called 'God causing them to happen'. But
the people bring it upon themselves.}
{Verses
10-15: The Broken Jug}
10-11~~"Then
you {Jeremiah} shall smash the jug
in
the sight of the men {the city elders and elders of the priesthood}
that
go with you, 11~~
and
shall say unto them,
"Thus
said Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts,
Even
so I {God} will smash this people and this city,
as
one breaks a potter's vessel,
that
does not have the ability
to
be 'made whole'/'reconstructed' again.
And
they shall bury {them} in Tophet,
till
there be no place to bury."
12~~"Thus
will I do/manufacture {`asah}
unto
this place {Jerusalem},"
said
Jehovah/God,
"and
to the inhabitants thereof,
and
I will give this city as Tophet."
{Note:
The Jews gave their children to Tophet in human sacrifice. Now God
will give them to Tophet.}
13~~"And
the houses of Jerusalem,
and
the houses of the kings of Judah,
shall
become unclean/defiled like the place of Tophet . . .
because
of all the houses upon whose roofs
they
have burned incense
unto
all the host/armies {of false gods} of heaven,
and
have poured out drink offerings unto other elohiym/gods."
{Note:
The issue here is the building of a structure. The Jews built
beautiful houses instead of constructing an edification complex in
their souls. They even used these houses to hold items they used to
worship the numerous false gods of the cosmic system.}
{Verses
14-15: Background for the Next Chapter}
14-15~~Then
{after the shattered jug message in Tophet}
came
Jeremiah from Tophet,
where
Jehovah/God had sent him
to
'communicate doctrine'/prophesy.
And
he kept 'standing and serving'
in
the court of Jehovah/God's house,
and
said to all the people, 15~~
"Thus
said Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts,
the
Elohiym/Godhead of Israel,
'Behold,
I will cause to come upon this city
and
upon all her towns all the evil
that
I {God} have pronounced/'communicated categorically'
against
it,
because
they have hardened their necks
{long-term negative volition to God and His Word
beyond point of recovery},
that
they might not hear
My
Words {completely reject God's Word}.' "
{Note:
Prophecy is forth telling and foretelling. So this is telling what
God has told him now in Jerusalem itself.}
