Jeremiah
Chapter
41
{Leader
of Revolutionary Party}
1~~Now
it came to pass in the seventh month,
that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah
the
son of Elishama, of the seed royal
{1st or 2nd cousin to Zedekiah},
and
the princes of the king -
even
ten men with him -
came
unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to {the city of} Mizpah.
And
there they did dined together in Mizpah
{under the guise of accepting the laws of hospitality}.
{Note:
These 11 men are fierce warriors. They have the element of surprise
on their side and they attack quickly and fiercely and kill even the
Chaldean guard that was left behind to protect Gedaliah.}
2~~Then
arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah,
and
the ten men that were with him,
and
violently struck {nakah} Gedaliah
the
son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan
with
the sword {chereb},
and
kept on killing him {meaning the results to the nation continued},
whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
3~~Ishmael
also killed {nakah - Hiphil stem}
all
the Jews who were with him, even with Gedaliah,
at
{the city of} Mizpah,
and
the Chaldeans who were discovered there
{garrison left to protect Jews were not on alert - not near their
weapons},
and
the men of war {Jewish soldiers also unprepared for an ambush}.
{Note:
Even though Gedaliah was warned, he had sent the soldiers to their
barracks. So this action was easy for Ishmael. This is a non-Bonified
use of 'love the brethren'. Doctrine teaches us that we all have old
sin natures and we should be prepared.}
4~~And
it came to pass
{sheniy -indicates sequence in historical events}
the
second day after he had caused the death of Gedaliah,
and
no man knew {it}.
{Pilgrimage
of Sincere Confused People}
5~~
That there came men from Shechem,
from
Shiloh, and from Samaria . . .
even
fourscore/eighty men,
having
their beards shaven,
and
their clothes rent,
and
having cut themselves,
with
offerings
{minchah - bloodless offerings like Cain offered - indicates
unbelievers or believers without doctrine}
and
incense in their hand,
to
caused them to go
{bow' - Hiphil - indicates they are going their for 'good luck'
not out of real respect for the Lord}
to
the house of Jehovah/God.
{Note:
Cutting yourself was a ritual to show you really meant it in your mourning.}
6~~And
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah
{leader of Revolutionary Party}
went
forth from {the city of} Mizpah to meet them with a plan,
and
he kept on weeping {pretending grief}
all
along as he went.
And
it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them,
"Come
to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam."
{Note:
The Pilgrims are sensitive and weeping. They see Ishmael also
apparently in grief so they are sympathetic. Ishmael tells them the
truth - they are about to meet Gedaliah - and all but 10 rich men
will suffer Gedaliah's same fate.}
7~~And
it came to pass,
when
they came into the middle of the city,
that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah cut their throats,
{and
cast them} into the midst of the sewer/ditch . . .
he
{Gedaliah} and the men who were with him.
8~~But
ten men were discovered among them
who
said unto Ishmael, "Do not slay us. Wealth is unto us.
For
we have treasures in the field {sub-terrain storehouses}
of
wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey.
So
he left off killing them {his greed won out over his killer lust},
and
slew them not among their brethren.
{Bodies
of Both Massacres Laid Together}
9~~Now
the trench/sewer
wherein
Ishmael had caused to be disposed
all
the dead bodies of the men,
whom
he had used violence on to the point of death
by
the side of Gedaliah
{laid their bodies next to the body of Gedaliah},
was
it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel.
And
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them who were slain.
{Note:
Holes have been dug throughout history to hide the evidence of mass murder.}
10~~Then
Ishmael carried away captive
all
the residue/remnant of the people
who
were in and around Mizpah . . .
even
the king's {Zedekiah's} daughters
and
all the people that remained in Mizpah . . .
whom
Nebuzaradan the 'Provo Marshall General'/'G2 Commander'
{rabsarbashim - 'Prince of the executioners' - title 2nd Highest in
military}
had
'appointed in authority over them' Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.
And
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah
'enslaved
for the purpose of selling' {shabah},
and
departed to pass over
{`abar - the only 'Passover' Ishmael will observe!}
to
the Ammonites.
{Verses
11-15: Triumph of the Establishment}
11-12~~But
when Johanan the son of Kareah
{the white hat general},
and
all the leaders of the forces {leaders of establishment army}
who
were with him,
heard
from several sources of all the evil
that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had manufactured
{'asah -evil from mental attitude sins - sin, lust, and emotional
revolt}, 12~~
then
they hastily assembled {laqach} all the men
{laqach - indicates a well trained and well disciplined force},
and
advanced to fight
{tactical combat situation - two forces 3 miles apart}
with
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah,
and
found him {good reconnaissance}
by
the great waters that are in Gibeon.
{Note:
Gibeon is a town with a great lake 3 miles from Mizpah - Ishmael's
men probably stopped to celebrate their victory. They had only moved
3 miles from the Mizpah. Apparently, they were lax with their guards
and were surprised and caught with water to their back. This
revolutionary army is a poorly disciplined fighting force.}
13~~Now
it came to pass,
that
when all the people who were with Ishmael
{the captives being abused and raped}
saw
Johanan the son of Kareah,
and
all the generals of the divisions
who
were with him,
then
they were hilarious/'great happiness'.
14~~So
all the people
who
Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turn around
{as Ishmael's army turned to fight, the captives ran causing
confusion}
and
returned {ran toward establishment army},
and
went unto Johanan the son of Kareah
{Note:
Johanan's men fought and won, but with the captives coming up,
Ishmael and 8 men escaped in the confusion.}
15~~
But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah
escaped
from Johanan with eight men,
and
went to the Ammonites.
16~~Then
took Johanan the son of Kareah,
and
all the generals of the divisions
who
were with him,
all
the remnant of the people {civilian population}
whom
he had caused to return
{military victory gave them freedom - this is a divine law - all
freedom comes from military victory}
from
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah,
from
{the city of} Mizpah,
after
that, he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam -
{new establishment listed}
mighty
men of war {military will remain intact},
and
the women and the children {helpless civilian population},
and
the 'administrators'/eunuchs
{surviving government administrators},
whom
he {Johanan} had brought again from Gibeon.
{Note:
No intention of staying in the land. This is the first sign of their
running away to Egypt.}
{Running
to Egypt. Why? Emotional Revolt of The Soul from Fear (Neutralizing
Doctrine in their Souls)}
17-18~~And
they departed/'were fleeing' {running away},
and
'dwelt in {relative} happiness' {yashab - temporary rejoicing}
in
the 'inn' of Chimham which is by Bethlehem
{very famous inn near Bethlehem since the days of David - see
II Samuel 19:37-40},
intending
to go . . . and in reality will go into Egypt 18~~
{means their minds are made up even before the hypocrisy of
asking Jeremiah}.
because
of the Chaldeans . . .
for
they were afraid of them . . .
because
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah
had
slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam
{along with the Chaldean guard!},
whom
the king of Babylon made governor in the land.
