Jeremiah
Chapter
42
{Debate
over Flight to Egypt}
1-2~~Then
all the generals of the divisions
{of the establishment army},
and
Johanan the son of Kareah
{Commander and Chief - see chapter 41},
and
Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah
{Chief of Staff to Johanan - a Maachathite, - a natural fighter
peoples See also II Kings 25:23, Jeremiah 40:8 and 43:2 (also
called Azariah)},
and
all the people from the least even unto the greatest,
approached,
2 ~~ and said
unto
Jeremiah the prophet {word of authority},
"Let,
us beg you, our supplication be accepted before you,
and
pray for us yourself
{they know Jerry has an 'in' with God so YOU yourself pray for us!}
unto
the Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead
{Why are they saying HIS God, implying not theirs?
Emotional revolt of the soul},
for
all this remnant."
(for
we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do behold us)
{Emotional revolt turns a man into a woman and courage into tears
- operation crybaby - O Jerry pity us and pray for us! These
people are NOT seeking the Lord's will, but want Him to back
THEIR program of going to Egypt.}.
{Note:
These people in reversionism want Jeremiah to pronounce a few words
of 'good luck' over them. When Jeremiah does not tell them what they
want to hear, they reject his words as coming from the Lord.}
{Hypocrisy
Covered by Façade of 'Sincerity'}
3~~That
the Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead
that
he may cause to understand
the
way wherein we may walk,
and
the word
{give us God's Word and we will do it - will see this is hypocrisy}
that
we may 'manufacture' {our actions based on the Word} {'asah}.
4~~Then
Jeremiah the prophet {title with authority} said unto them,
"
'I have agreed to your request'/'I will intercede for you'.
{Idiom: literally 'I have heard you'}
Behold
{pay attention},
I
will pray unto the Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead
{Jeremiah is emphasizing that God is also THEIR God - so He says
I will pray to the Lord YOUR God - to emphasize this point - they
are apostate}
according
to your words {their requests}.
And
it shall come to pass,
that
whatsoever Word the Jehovah/God shall answer you,
I
will declare it unto you {Jeremiah will lay it on the line}.
I
will not withhold the Word from you."
{Note:
The communicator of the Word must level with the people regardless
of how the hearers will accept what is said. Jeremiah knows they will
NOT accept God's Word, but it is his job to give it to them
dogmatically, correctly, and completely.}
{Verses
5-6: People State their Good Intentions}
5-6~~
Then they said further to Jeremiah,
"Let
Jehovah/God be a true and faithful witness against us,
if
we do not according to all the Word
for
which the Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead
shall
send you to us {answer will take 10 days}6~~
whether
'it pleases us or not' {and this is a 'sincere lie'}
{Idiom: literally: 'if good or if evil'},
we
will obey the voice of the Jehovah/God our Elohiym/Godhead
and
keep on obeying,
to
Whom we send you . . .
that
it may be well with us,
when
we obey the voice of the Jehovah/God our Elohiym/Godhead.
{Note:
Emotional revolt of the soul neutralizes the best of intentions. 'I
will love you forever' means nothing if the speaker is instable.
Sincerity and instability go together. Stability comes when doctrine
controls the soul.}
{Verses
7-18: God Gives them an Answer}
7~~And
it came to pass
{hajah Kal imperfect - chronological sequence},
after
ten days {time elapse between question and answer}
that
the word of Jehovah/God {the answer}
came
unto Jeremiah.
{Note:
God gave His authority to Jeremiah and does not bypass him in giving
the answer. Today God speaks through the Written Word as
taught/explained by men with the gift of pastor-teacher.}
{Verses
8-12: Delivers Answer - Blessings of Remaining in the Land}
8~~Then
called he {Jeremiah}
Johanan
the son of Kareah {new leader of establishment party},
and
all the generals of the divisions {divisional commanders}
who
were with him,
and
all the people from the least even to the greatest
{people are NOT born equal - they should have equal opportunity
but how they use that opportunity creates inequality}, 9~~
and
said unto them, "Thus said the Jehovah/God,
the
Elohiym/Godhead of Israel
{Jesus Christ ready to assume His role of Leadership},
unto
Whom you all sent me
that
I might cause your supplication to fall upon Him."
{Good
Option Stay in Land - But is their Free Will Decision}
10~~"If
it is your purpose to remain in this land
-
maybe you will, maybe you will not -
then
I {God} will build {banah} you up
{back in plan of God, take in doctrine, build an edification complex
of the soul},
and
not 'break you down'/'destroy you'
{emotional revolt would only get worse in Egypt},
and
I will plant you, and not pluck {you} up.
For
I have received a change of My mind
{anthropopathism - change in divine policy if Jews remain in land}
of
the evil {administration of 5th cycle of discipline}
that
I have manufactured {out of their apostasy}
{'asah - manufactured 5th cycle out of their apostasy}
unto
you {their fellow Jews who have been destroyed already}."
{Principal
and Practice of God's Grace in Deliverance If They Stay}
11~~"Be
not afraid of the king of Babylon,
of
whom you are afraid.
Be
not afraid of him",
'divine
decree'/promise communicated {n@'um} Jehovah/God.
"For
I . . . {will} cause you to be delivered in principal {yasha`},
and
'cause you to experience deliverance in practice' {natsal}
from
his {Nebuchadnezzar's} hand 12~~
and
I will keep on providing {nathan}
mercies/'grace
in action' {racham} unto you,
that
he {Nebuchadnezzar} may have mercy {racham} upon you,
and
cause you to be restored {shuwb} to your own land {'adamah}."
{Note:
This is God's promise that prosperity will be restored to them if
they follow His will and stay in the land.}
{Verses
13-18: Curse of Going to Egypt}
{Bad
Option Going to Egypt - But is still their Free Will Decision}
13-14~~But
if you keep on 'expressing what you think' {'amar},
'We
will not dwell in tranquility {yashab} in this land',
neither
obey the voice of the Jehovah/God
your
Elohiym/Godhead, 14~~
keeping
on saying what you think {'amar}, 'No,
but
we will go into the land of Egypt,
where
we shall see/experience {ra'ah} no war,
nor
hear the sound of the trumpet
{people in emotional revolt of the soul reject military
stablishment}, and shall not be hungry for bread
{human viewpoint - change of environment does not automatically
improve one's life}.
And
there we {anticipate we will} dwell in prosperity {yashab}.'
{God
Says Their Fears Will Overtake Them in Egypt}
15~~
"Right now
hear,
concentrate and obey {shama` - Qal imperative}
the
word of the Jehovah/God, you remnant of Judah . . .
Thus
said {'amar}
the
Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts {military title} . . .
the
Elohiym/Godhead of Israel
{Jesus Christ as Savior and Government Ruler} . . .
if
you wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt
-maybe
you will, maybe you will not -
and
go to sojourn there, 16~~
then
{if you reject God's will and go to Egypt}
it
shall come to pass,
that
the sword which fearing,
{those who are afraid of war never orient to the principal of war
as a biblical principal, military and victory in war is the
preservation of freedom},
shall
be caused to reach out and grab you there in the land of Egypt,
and
the famine of which you were afraid,
shall
follow close after you there in Egypt . . .
and
there you shall die."
17~~"So
shall it be with all the people
who
set their faces {indicates negative volition}
to
go into Egypt to sojourn/'temporarily dwell' there.
They
shall die by the sword {weapons},
by
the famine {economy},
and
by the pestilence {disease}.
And
shall not remain unto them
one
left escaped from the evil {5th cycle of discipline}
that
I {God} will cause to bring upon them."
{All
Believers are Warned before Divine Judgment from God}
18~~"For
thus said {'amar}
the
Jehovah/God of the armies/hosts
{Psalm 24 - King of Glory - Commander of Jewish Army - Jesus},
the
Elohiym/Godhead of Israel {Jesus - the Founder of Israel}.
As
My anger and My fury
{586BC application of 5th cycle of discipline}
has
been 'poured forth to saturation' {nathak}
upon
the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
So
shall My fury be 'poured forth to saturation' {nathak} upon you all
{2 times suckers - escaped the first time because of doctrine in
their soul - now are rejecting doctrine for 'peace' - and will be
destroyed},
when
- from your own free will - you all shall enter into Egypt.
And
you all shall become a cursing/execration
{nothing will work out in Egypt},
and
'depressed because of regrets' {shammah}
{reaction to disappointment},
and
an 'object of contempt' {cherpah}
{getting people to 'feel sorry for you' ends with them having great
contempt for you}.
And
you shall 'not never see this place no more'
{bad English - good strong Hebrew!}."
{Note:
RBT did not mention the word q@lalah, which is another word for
being a cursing or vilification. Not sure if it is really in this
verse or not, but thought is certainly there.}
{Verses
19-22: Epilogue of the Prophet's Message from God}
19~~"The
Jehovah/God
has
once and for all spoken categorically {dabar}
concerning
you, O you remnant of Judah,
'You
shall not go to Egypt.'
'Knowing,
you shall know'/'Know dogmatically' {yada` yada`}
that
I myself 'have solemnly born witness against'/admonished you this
day. "
20~~"For
you 'went astray'/wandered/'were seduced' {ta`ah}
in
your souls {nephesh},
when
you sent me unto the Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead,
saying,
'Pray for us unto the Jehovah/God our Elohiym/Godhead
and
according unto all that the Jehovah/God our Elohiym/Godhead
shall
say, so declare unto us,
and
we will manufacture {out of doctrine} {'asah} it.' "
{The
People's Hypocrisy Exposed by Jeremiah}
21~~"And
I {Jeremiah} this day
have
'laid it on the line'/'dogmatically communicated clearly
without
fear and honestly' {nagad} to you,
but
you have not 'listened, concentrated and obeyed'
{shama` - concept of understanding doctrine
and applying it to experience}
the
voice of the Jehovah/God your Elohiym/Godhead,
nor
any thing for the which He {God}
has
sent me {Jeremiah} unto you. "
{The
Four Horsemen will come if they Go to Egypt -
Death is the Fourth Horseman}
22~~
"'Knowing, you shall know'/'know dogmatically'
{yada` yada` - this has the concept of learning the hard way}
that
you shall die by the sword {military invasion},
by
the famine {economic disaster},
and
by the pestilence {disease},
in
the place where you desire
{chaphets - 'desire to seek happiness'}
to
go to sojourn/'temporarily dwell'. "
