John

Chapter 14
{Note: Per RBT Chapter 14 should start here according to the Context - Here To the End of Chapter 14: The Four Inquisitive Disciples - Peter, Thomas, Phillip and Jude}
{Verses 13:36 - 14:4 - Peter Asks the Lord Questions}
13:36~~Simon Peter said to Him {Jesus},
"Lord, to what place do You go?"
Jesus 'had an answer'/'gave a discerning answer
from the ultimate source of himself' {apokrinomai},
"Where I am going,
you are not able to follow Me . . . now;
but you will follow later."

{Note: Jesus' departure was unique. His Spirit went to heaven to be with the Father. His body went into the grave. And, His soul went to witness to the fallen angels in Tartarus and to Paradise/'Abraham's bosom' in the center of the Earth. After the resurrection, His complete spirit, soul and resurrected body went again to the third heaven. There, Peter will be able to follow when he dies.}

13:37~~Peter said to Him {Jesus},
"Lord, because why 'can't I/'don't I have the ability to'
follow You this very minute {arti}?
I will lay down my soul {psuche} for you!"

{Note: Jesus said you can not follow now (nun). Peter changes nun to 'arti' having the concept of one person moves and you step right into his foot print - the very minute - where you go Lord I always go! Very loyal, but is having trouble applying to his experience the doctrine that Jesus is teaching.

{Note: Psuche - from which we get psyche - means 'soul' not 'life' - that is bios or zoe.}

13:38~~Jesus 'had an answer'/'gave a discerning answer
from the ultimate source of himself' {apokrinomai} to him {Peter},
"Will you lay down your soul for Me?
'I tell you the solemn truth'/'point of doctrine' {amen amen},
before the dawn {idiom - literally 'the rooster will not crow until'}
you will have denied me three {times}!

{Note: This last phrase is in the subjunctive mood. This means that the omniscience of Jesus knew what Peter would choose to do, but His deity would not interfere with the free will of Peter. Peter could have chosen not to deny the Lord, but Jesus knew he would choose to deny Him.}

{KJV Chapter 14 Begins}
{Jesus Continues with Peter - Three commands}
1-3~~"Do not let this bother you! {Idiom: literally - 'let your heart not be disturbed!'}
Believe in God!
Believe also in Me! 2~~
in my Father's house there are many mansions/'dwelling places'.
If it were not so {2nd class condition of supposition}
- and let us assume it is not true to prove this wrong -
I would have told you! {Jesus would have leveled with him}
I go from one place to another
to make ready a place to dwell for you - for your advantage. 3~~
And if I go and make ready a place for you
- maybe I do go, maybe I do not go -
I will come again and receive you
to be face to face with Myself {rapture of the Church},
so that where I {Jesus in heaven} keep on being
you may also keep on being."

{Note: This is the ultimate expression of the Grace of God. It is for believers who are flat on their back with troubles. Specifically, here Jesus tells Peter he would deny his Lord three times by dawn. Peter's face must have hit the floor. Jesus commands him not to worry! He was saved and always would be saved - eternal salvation. Even denying the Lord would not cost Peter his place in heaven with the Lord.}

{Note: The third class condition of if at the end here indicates that even at this late date, the free will of the humanity of Jesus Christ can still choose not to go to the cross - 'nevertheless Thy Will be done'.}

4~~"And where I go
you know/'understand from doctrine in your soul' {oida}
and 'the way'/'systematic source of planning or action' {hodos}
you understand from doctrine in your soul {oida}."

{Note: Hodos means a systematic source of planning or action. It means phase II in the Church Age. The first Christians were called the 'followers of the way'.}

{Verses 5-7: Question of Doubting Thomas}
5~~Thomas said to Him {Jesus},
"Lord, we do not 'understand from doctrine in our souls' {oida}
to what place You are going.
By what means
can we have the ability
to 'understand from doctrine in our souls' {oida}
'the way'/'systematic source of planning or action' {hodos}?"

{Note: It is believed that Thomas came from Antioch and eventually became a missionary into Persia where he was martyred for the Lord. At this point in time, he is not paying very good attention and understands very little of what the Lord has taught him for 3 years. He implies that all of them were ignorant of the doctrine but that is his assumption. Everyone learns at a different speed. The means of knowing the way is the study of bible doctrine as it is presented in your dispensation! He got the teaching straight from the Lord's mouth and still did not understand! We have the Mind of Christ today in writing!}

6~~Jesus said to him {Thomas},
"I keep on being
'the way'/'systematic source of planning or action' {hodos},
and the 'body of doctrine'/truth/'that which is believed' {aletheia},
and the 'function of life' {zoe}.
No one comes/approaches face to face with the Father
except through Me {Jesus}."

{Note: Zoe is the function of life - the Christian Modus Operendi - walking in the Light - filled with God the Holy Spirit - study, learn, apply doctrine. SideNote: Bios is used for the principal of life - from which we get biology.}

7~~"If you had 'learned by study or experience' {ginosko} Me,
-but you did not {2nd class condition} -
you would have 'learned by study or experience' {ginosko}
My Father also.
And from the ultimate source of this moment
you have 'learned by study or experience' {ginosko} Him
and have a panoramic view {horao} of Him."

{Verses 8:21 - Philip Asks the Lord Questions}
8~~Philip said to Him {Jesus},
"Lord, 'point out clearly' {deiknuo} to us the Father,
and we will be 'happy and satisfied'/content {arkeo}."

{Note: Arkeo means to be both happy and satisfied. Lots of people are happy but not satisfied! Many are satisfied, but not happy. It takes doctrine in your soul to be happy and satisfied!}

{Jesus' 'Sanctified yet Sarcastic' Response to Philip}
9~~Jesus said unto him {Philip},
"Have I kept on being for so long a time
with you {Jesus WITH HIM - sarcasm},
and you have not
'learned by study or experience' {ginosko} Me, Philip?
The person who has had a panoramic view {horao} of Me
has a panoramic view {horao} of the Father!
How can you {possibly have the nerve to} say,
'point out clearly' {deiknuo} to us the Father'?"

{Note: In the Greek language, the way you phrase things is very telling. Jesus did not say Philip was with HIM, instead He said 'have I been WITH YOU!' Like Philip was the focal point of the group! Dripping in sarcasm here.}

{Jesus Takes Philip Back to the Basic Doctrines}
10~~"Do you not believe that
I {Jesus} keep on being in the Father,
and the Father . . . {keeps on being} in Me?
The words that I communicate/teach {laleo} to you,
I do not speak {lego} 'from My self'/'on My own initiative',
but the Father Who dwells/resides in Me
He does the production
  {divine good production/His miraculous deeds - works}."

{Note: Jesus is telling Philip, believe Me the person, or believe me based on the divine good productions you have seen produced through Me . . . either way believe in Me!}

11~~"Believe Me!
That I . . . {keep on being} in the Father,
and the Father . . . {keeps on being} in Me!
But if you do not believe Me,
believe because of the 'divine good production' {miraculous works} themselves."

12-16~~" 'Point of Doctrine!' {amen amen}
the person who believes in Me . . .
the 'divine good production' that I keep on doing,
so, he will keep on doing also.
And 'greater in quantity' {meizon - quantity not quality}
will he do!
Because I am going face to face with the Father! 13~~
And whatever you ask in My Name
  {all prayer goes through our High Priest so we pray in His Name},
this will I do!
For the purpose that
the Father may be glorified by means of the Son. 14~~
 If you ask anything in My Name
-maybe you will ask, maybe you will not -
I will do {it}.15~~
If you keep on loving {agapao} me
-maybe you do, maybe you do not -
you will keep/'guard what you own' {tereo} . . .
My commandments."

{Note: What is agapao type love? When directed toward God, it is a mental attitude love response to His love for us. How do we demonstrate our love for Him? We keep or guard as precious His directions. What are the steps in doing this? You can not keep what you do not understand. Therefore, the first step after salvation is to study and learn what His commandments are. The bible is the Mind of Christ. All of it was given to us to learn and understand. Many verses tell us that we are to listen and concentrate and accept as true what is taught in a public situation. We also know the gift of pastor teacher is a permanent gift still active today. So step one is find your right pastor teacher who is faithfully teaching the Word of God - verse by verse - and concentrate on his teaching.}

16~~ "Then I {Jesus in His role as our High Priest}
will ask/pray/'request of' the Father,
and He will give you
'another of the same kind' {allos}
of encourager/comforter/paraclete {parakletos}
for the purpose that
He may indwell {meno} in you forever.

{Note: Jesus is prophesizing that our 'paraclete' will not 'abide side by side' us as He did selected individuals before the Pentecost, but in the Church Age, God the Holy Spirit will dwell IN us. And, this state is permanent - even in eternity future God the Holy Spirit will reside with us in our resurrection bodies. Some Old Testament believers like David had the enduement of God the Holy Spirit. But in the Greek, 'para' was used which means this enduement was 'by the side of' David and did not dwell IN him - as He does with us today.}

17~~ {God the Holy Spirit} even 'the Spirit/Breath {pneuma}
of Truth/Doctrine {aletheia}',
whom the cosmos/world does not have the power {dunamai}
to receive/accept,
because it does not perceive mentally {theoreo} Him
nor 'know Him from study or experience' {ginosko}.
But, in contrast, you all {every believer priest}
'know Him from study or experience' {ginosko},
because He abides/dwells {meno}
by the side of {para} you
  {at this moment, still Age of Israel - enduement only}
and will keep on being inside {en} you
  {reference to the Church Age}."

{Note: Pneuma is the Greek word for 'spirit'. It is the noun form of pneo (Matthew 7:25), which means to blow - 'a wind blows' or to breathe - 'a person breathes'. Pneuma means breath and is used for God and angels who have no material form. 'Spirit of Truth' is a functional title for God the Holy Spirit - Who, as our paraclete, only allows the real Truth (not false doctrine) to be metabolized into our soul as usable 'divine viewpoint' or Truth in our norms and standards of the conscience of the soul.}

{Note: Para means 'beside of' - status of God the Holy Spirit when Old Testament believers are endued with the Spirit. En means inside of - status of God the Holy Spirit when you accept Christ as your savior in the Church Age.}
