Psalms

Chapter 116

1~~I love {'ahab} Jehovah/God,
because He has heard
  {shama` - to 'hear listen and follow his request'}
my voice and my supplications/prayers {tachanuwn}.

{Note: King Hezekiah with his face to the wall. Sin unto death prophesized by Isaiah 38:2 he confessed his sins and was forgiven. He asked God for deliverance and was delivered.}

{Orientation to the Grace of God}
2~~ Because He has inclined his ear unto me,
therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live.

3~~The sorrows of death surrounded me,
and the pains of Sheol
  {sh@'owl - often called 'hell'}
catch hold upon me.

I found trouble and sorrow
  {meaning under great pressure}.

4~~Then I called upon the name of Jehovah/God,
"O Jehovah/God, I beseech You,
deliver/save {malat} my soul {nephesh}."

5~~"Gracious {channuwn} is Jehovah/God,
and righteous {tsaddiyq}.

Yes, our Elohiym/Godhead . . . {is} merciful {racham}."

6~~ Jehovah/God preserves
the simple/naiveté {the clucks} {p@thiy}.

I was brought low, and He helped me.

7~~Return unto your rest/'resting place' {manowach},
O my soul,
for Jehovah/God has dealt beneficially {gamal} {with you}.

8~~For You {God}
have delivered/saved {chalets}
my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
and my feet from falling.

9~~That I will keep on Walking
before/'in the presence of' Jehovah/God
in the land of the living {chay}.

10``I 'believed in the past with results
that last forever' {'aman - perfect tense},
therefore I keep on 'communicating categorically' {dabar}.
I was greatly humbled {`anah}.

{Note: When we say 'Amen', it is a transliteration from the Hebrew 'aman which means 'I believe it'.}

11``I said {'amar}in my haste,
"All men . . . {are} liars."

12``What shall I render/'cause to return'{shuwb} to Jehovah/God
for all His benefits/'acts of Grace' {tagmuwl} {toward me}?

13~~I will 'lift up' {nasa'}
the cup of salvation {y@shuw`ah}
  {the cup is empty - the gospel message is 'lifting up the cup' and
  acceptance is drinking'},
therefore, I will call upon the name of Jehovah/God.

14``I will keep on recompensing {shalam}
my vows/promises {neder} to Jehovah/God
before His people.

15~~Precious/'of high value'
in the sight of Jehovah/God . . . {is}
the death {maveth}
of His 'faithful ones'/'set apart to God ones' {chaciyd}.

16``O Jehovah/God, truly

I . . . {am} your slave/servant!

I . . . {am} your slave/servant!
  { `ebed `ebed - Doubling in the Hebrew is very strong!}

The son of your maidservant
  {a low position in the household - recognizing humility}.

You have freed me from slavery
  {idiom: literally 'loosed my bonds/chains (pathach mowcer)}.

17`` Offering sacrifice, I will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving!
  {zabach zabach - doubling is very strong again in the Hebrew},

and call upon the name of Jehovah/God.

18``I will keep on recompensing {shalam}
 my vows/promises {neder} to Jehovah/God
before His people.

19``In the courts {chatser}
of Jehovah's/God's house {bayith},
in the middle of you, O Jerusalem.

Praise Jahh! {Jahh - short for Jehovah/God}!
  {halal - Piel imperative mood - this is an order}
