{Verses
1-7: God Uses Nature to Teach Man About His Works}
1``At
this also my {Elihu's} heart/'right lobe' trembles . . .
and is moved out of its place.
2``Hearing, Listening and Obeying' . . .
you
shall hear, listen and obey' {an order}
{shama` shama` - doubling is very strong in the Hebrew - 'You all
listen closely' type thing}
the sound that goes out of His mouth.
3``He intensively directs it under the whole heaven . . .
and His lightning unto the ends of the earth.
4``After it, a sound/voice roars.
He causes to thunder/tremble . . .
with the sound/voice of His majesty/exaltation.
And He will not intensively hold them back . . .
when His voice is heard, listened and obeyed.
5``
God/'El caused to thunder/tremble marvelously
with
His sound/voice.
Great things does He manufacture/do {`asah} . . .
which we keep on not comprehending {yada`}.
6``He kept on saying to the snow,
"You fall on the earth.
Likewise to the small rain . . .
and to the great rain of His strength/power {`oz}.
7``He 'keeps on fastening up with a seal'/'keeps on sealing up' . . .
the hand of every man . . .
that all men may know/understand {yada`} His work.
{Verses
8-13: Ice Representing God's Punishment}
8``Then
the living creatures go into dens,
and remain in their places.
9``Out of the south keeps on coming the whirlwind . . .
and cold out of the north.
10``By
the breath {n@shamah - also used for 'spark of life'}
of
God/'El . . . frost is given.
And the breadth/width of the waters is constrained.
11``Also
by watering/'losing moisture',
He
wearies the thick cloud . . .
and
He causes the spreading/scattering
of
His clear/bright/'light permitting' clouds.
12``And
He Himself caused {the climate} to change . . .
by
His direction/guidance.
They
do what He commands them
upon
the face of the world
throughout
the earth.
13``He
caused light to come . . .
{here understanding of His Ways through study of nature}
whether for 'corrective discipline'/'the rod' for the land . . .
or for His grace {checed - blessings graciously given by God}.
{Verses
14-24: Job Cannot Help God in the Administration of Justice}
14~~Listen
to this Job/
'Hear, listen, and obey {shama`} this, Job' . . .
stop and consider God's/'El's wonders.
15~~Do you know how God/'Elowahh controls the clouds {?}
and makes His lightening flash?
16~~Do you know how the clouds hang poised {?} . . .
those wonders of Him Who is perfect in knowledge?
17~~You
swelter in your clothes
when
the land lies hushed under the south Wind.
18~~Can you join Him in spreading out the skies . . .
hard as a mirror of cast bronze?
19~~Tell us what we should say to Him . . .
we
can not drop our case because of our darkness
{Elihu is saying we do not have enough information for a case
before God}.
20``Shall it be written of Him Whom I speak/communicate {dabar}?
If a man speak, surely he shall be engulfed/'swallowed up'?
21``See not the bright light which is in the clouds?
The
wind {ruwach - also means for spirit/breathe}
passes
and cleans them.
22``
'Fair weather'/brilliance/splendor
keeps
coming out of the north . . .
with
God/'Elowahh . . . 'held in awe'/astonishing . . .
His
glory/majesty.
{Great
Verse on the Integrity of God}
23~~The
Almighty is beyond our reach . . .
and exalted in power . . .
in His justice and great righteousness . . . He does not repress.
24~~Therefore, men repect/love/fear/'are in awe of' Him.
'He
does not have regard for any who think they are wise'
{idiom: literally "Does He not have regard for all the wise in heart/
'right lobe' " - meaning for those who in their self-righteousness
think their human viewpoint is great - God can only produce divine
good from the thinking of those who have metabolized His Divine
viewpoint into the conscience of their souls - replacing human
viewpoint with that of His as revealed to us today in His Word}. "
