Titus
Chapter
2

But, in contrast,
{Titus}
you speak, and only you,
the
things which become:
proper,
suitable,
and
befitting
sound doctrine {sound 'content' of the message} . . .

(For the purpose that the aged men {in age} be:
sober
{not drunk},
grave,
stabilized
in the mind,
accurate
in faith,
{accurate}
in
charity,
{accurate}
in patience.
{Note: Old age is the greatest time of life. It is the chance for the soul to shine instead of the body of youth}
3-5~~
The elderly women:
likewise,
in the same manner, that they be in behavior
as
becomes holiness {befitting sanctification},
not
false accusers,
not
enslaved to much wine,
teachers
of good things 4~~
that
they may teach the young women:
to
be sober {stable of mentality},
to
love their hero {right man/husband},
to
love their children, 5~~
to
be discreet {think in a stabilized manner},
chaste
{pure in thought and act},
keepers
at home,
good
{producers of divine good} . . .
submit
from their own free will to their own husbands,
that
the word of God be not maligned.
6~~Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded {sane}.
{Now
discussing pastor bishops}

Concerning all things asserting your leadership:
a
model of good works
by
means of doctrine {teaching in categorical form solid doctrines}
showing uncorruptness {integrity of message},
with
majestic delivery 8~~
sound
speech,
that
cannot be condemned {accurate in exegesis and isogogics}
that
the one from the opposition may be put to shame,
not
having one underhanded thing to say concerning you.
{Note: 'Sincere' was added to the KJV- not found in original texts.}
{Now
on to slaves. Today relates to anyone working for another}
9-10~~
Exhort slaves to be obedient unto their own masters, and
to
be acceptable to them in all things not sassing back 10~~
not
stealing,
but
showing all good fidelity
that
they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
11-12~~
For the grace of God
that
brings salvation has appeared to all men 12~~
teaching
us
that
renouncing or refusing ungodliness {legalism or any system of works} and
worldly
lusts {being motivated by a form of lust - approbation lust, money lust},
we
should live with stability of mind {with doctrine in the mind},
righteously {production of divine good through doctrine}, and
godly
{filling of the Spirit}
in
this Now Age {Church Age}.
{Note: 'Teaching' in the Greek means 'the hard way of learning' - rote, inculcation, disciplining.}

Waiting with keen anticipation for that happy guarantee . . .
the
magnificent appearance of Glory {rapture of the Church}
of
the great God {emphasizes Jesus's deity} and
our
Savior Jesus Christ {emphasizes Jesus's humanity so together is the
hypostatic union of Christ - both 100% deity and 100% humanity all in one}.
{Parenthesis
begins in verse 2 and ends with verse 14}

Who {Christ} gave Himself on behalf of us,
that
He might deliver us {on the basis
of a payment like a ransom}
from all iniquity, and
purify
{refers to using 1 John 1:9 - rebound - purifies us from ALL
unrighteousness} unto Himself
a
special protected {of God} people,
a
fanatic for honorable productions)
{Finish
of sentence in verse 2}
15~~
. . . {Titus and all pastors} communicate objectively
these
things {all points of doctrine}, and
exhort,
and
rebuke
with
all authority {the pastor teacher has to have all the authority in
the local church}.
Let
no one disregard what you say {reject what you teach}!
{Note:
This verse covers the three ways to teach the same doctrine:
some
learn with gentle teaching,
others
need stronger with illustrations, and
others
need to be yelled at to learn, harshly.}
