Hosea

There were 4 great prophets to the Northern Kingdom of Israel (the 10 tribes who revolted from the rule of Judah - since it was lead by the tribe of Ephraim it is often referred to as Ephraim) - Elijah, Elisha, Amos, and Hosea. They operated over a period of about 150 years. Elijah was from circa 871 to 851 BC. Elisha was 845 BC and following. Amos was 787 BC. Hosea was 746 BC. The historical account of the administration of the 5th cycle of discipline to the Northern Kingdom is found in II Kings Chapter 17.

The book of Hosea is about suffering. Hosea married a woman named Gomer. Gomer was a very beautiful woman and many men were attracted to her. She became dissatisfied with Hosea. And, after her third child (not Hosea's) she runs away with one of the princes of Israel. Hosea was left with three children and a congregation and absent the wife that he loved - doctrine of suffering. Later, the prince is tired of Gomer and she becomes a slave. Hosea goes to the slave market and bought her and freed her and restored her to her place in his home.

God told Hosea to write his story -because it is also the story of God dealing with His 'right woman' - Israel (and of His dealing with the entire human race). God remains faithful and we go astray. Being sinners is analogous to the adulterous wife. And, Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross purchases all mankind from the slavemarket of sin.

Chapter 1

1 The word/'doctrinal communication' {dabar} of Jehovah/God
that came unto Hosea,
the son of Beeri,
in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah . . .
kings of Judah,
and in the days of Jeroboam . . .
the son of Joash, king of Israel.

 2 The beginning of the word/'doctrinal communication' {dabar}
of Jehovah/God by Hosea.

And Jehovah/God said to Hosea,
"Go, take unto you a wife of whoredoms
and children of whoredoms . . .
for the land has committed great whoredom,
departing from Jehovah/God."

3 So he went and took Gomer . . .
the daughter of Diblaim . . .
who conceived, and bare him a son.

{Note: Gomer was a very beautiful woman and many men were attracted to her. She will become dissatisfied with Hosea. And, after her third child (not Hosea's) she runs away with one of the princes of Israel. Hosea was left with three children and a congregation and absent the wife that he loved - doctrine of suffering.}

4 And Jehovah/God said unto him,
"Call his name Jezreel {name means 'God sows'} . . .
for yet a little while,
and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel
upon the house of Jehu,
and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel."

5 And it shall come to pass at that day,
that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.

6 And she conceived again,
and bare a daughter.

And {God} said unto him,
"Call her name Loruhamah {name means 'no mercy'} . . .
for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel . . .
but I will utterly take them away. 7

But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah,
and will save them by Jehovah/God their 'Elohiym/Godhead,
and will not save them by bow, nor by sword,
nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen."

8 Now when she had weaned Loruhamah,
she conceived, and bare a son.

9~~Then {the Lord} said,
"Call his name Loammi
  {Lo' `Ammiy - name means 'not my people'}.

For you are not My people,
and I will not be yours {your God}."

{Note: Prophecy of the Northern Kingdom being out under the 5th cycle of discipline and not a client nation to God at that time.}

10~~Yet the number of the children of Israel
shall be as the sand of the sea,
which cannot be measured nor numbered.

And it shall come to pass,
that in the place
  {see verse 9 - said to the 10 tribes in the Northern Kingdom -
  it would be overrun by the Assyrians in 721BC}
where it was said unto them, 'You are not my people,
there it shall be said unto them,
You are the sons of the living God/'El.

{Note: Paul quoted from this verse in Romans 9:26}

11 Then shall the children of Judah
and the children of Israel be gathered together,
and appoint themselves one head,
and they shall come up out of the land . . .
for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
