Job
Chapter
14 {is} of few days, and full of trouble. {Note: All humans are born with an old sin nature and have are dark side. Another profound statement}
2~~He
springs forth like a flower and 'is cut down'/'withers away'. Like a fleeing shadow, he endures not. 3~~Do you fix your eyes on such a one? Will you bring him to judgment before you? {Note: Job is saying to his friends - 'have you picked out a victim to judge?'}
4~~Who
can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!
5~~Man's
days are determined,
6~~Look
away from him, that he may rest, {Note: Don't bother other people. Let them alone. God sets their days as He does yours. Their life is between them and the Lord!}
{Hebrew
Poetry on the Tree}
If
it is cut down, it will sprout again,
8~~Its
roots may grow old in the ground,
9~~Yet
at the scent of water, it will bud, {Note: Remember 'water' is often a reference to the Word of God. Without it, man's soul is thirsty. A believer is like a dead stump until he receives the Water of the Word.} 10~~But man dies, and is 'laid low'/'wastes away'. He 'breathes his last'/dies, and is no more.
11-12~~As
waters disappears from the sea, Man will not wake, or be roused from their sleep. 13~~If only you would hide me in the grave. And conceal me till Your anger has passed. If only You would set me a time, and then remember me! 14~~If a man die, shall he live again?
All
the days of my hard service
15``You
keep on calling, and I keep on responding to You. 16``Now You number my steps. Do You not keep 'guard over'/watch my sins?
17``My
transgressions {pesha`}, You smear me with the 'guilty of my iniquity'.
18``Nevertheless,
the mountain falling come to nothing, 19``The waters wear the stones. You wash away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth. And You cause the hope of man to perish. 20~~You overpower him once and for all and he is gone. You change his countenance, and send him away. 21~~If his sons are honored, he does not know it. If they are brought low, he does not see it.
22~~He
feels the pain of his own body,
