Job

Chapter 29
{Chapters 22-31: The Third Debate}
{Chapters 25-31: Third Debate with Bildad -
  Job Continues His Long Response}

{Chapter 29 - Job Recalls His Escrow Blessings}
1-2~~Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said, 2~~
"How I long for the months gone by . . .
for the days when God/'Elowahh watched over me.

{Note: Job still does not realize that God is still watching over him. But Satan is still 'cross-examining' and God will not interrupt.}

3~~When His lamp shined on my head . . .
and by His light, I walked through darkness.

{Note: There was no situation that Job could not handle when he applied bible doctrine to his experiences in life. God blessed his every move (and still is, but Job is experiencing suffering for advancement).}

4-6~~Oh for the days when I was in my prime . . .

when God's/'Elowahh's intimate friendship
blessed my house/tent . . . 5~~

when the Almighty {'El Shadday} was still with me . . .
  {'El Shadday - literally 'the many breasted God' - title for God in His
  logistical grace}

when my children were around me {Job} . . . 6~~

when my path was drenched with cream
  {Job apparently also owned a big dairy farm} . . .

and the rock poured me out streams of Olive oil
  {Job apparently also owned a large Olive grove - extremely
  valuable}.

7-8~~When I went to the gate of the city
and took my seat in the public square, 8~~
the young men saw me and stepped aside.

The old men rose to their feet
and acknowledged me {out of respect}.

9~~The 'chief men'/princes refrained from speaking,
and covered their mouths with their hands.

10~~The voices of the nobles were hushed,
and their tongues stuck to the roof of their mouths.

11-12~~Who ever heard me, spoke well of me.

And those who saw me commended me, 12~~
because I rescued the poor who cried for help
  {Job did not neglect the poor as his friends hinted - he was kind to
  them}.

And . . . {Job helped} the orphans who had no one to help them.

13~~The man who was dying, blessed me.

I made the widow's heart/'right lobe' sing for joy
  {Job saw to it the widow was cared for, for the rest of her life}.

14~~I {Job} put on righteousness as I put on cloths.

Justice was my robe and my turban.

15~~I {Job} was eyes to the blind and I was feet to the lame
  {wealthiest man in the world but he would walk a blind man down
  the street and get things for the lame}.

16~~I was a father to the needy.

I took up the cause of strangers.

17~~{When people were being abused}
I broke the fangs of the wicked
and snatched the victims from their teeth.

18~~I thought, "I will die in my own house.

My days as numerous as the grains of sand.

19~~My roots will reach to the waters.

And the dew will lie all night upon my branches.

20~~My glory will remain fresh in me.

The bow ever new in my hand
  {meaning Job thought he would be vigorous and healthy and strong
  to the day he died}.

{Job Pauses to Recall}
21~~Men listened to me expectantly.

Waiting in silence for my counsel.

22~~And, after I had spoken,
they spoke no more.

My words fell gently on their ears.

23~~They waited for me as for showers of rain.

And drank in my words as the spring rain
  {the spring rain was necessary for making a crop}.

24~~When I smiled on them, they scarcely believed it.

The light of my face was precious to them.

25~~I chose the Way for them
and sat as their chief.

I dwelt as a king among his troops.

I was like one who comforts mourners."
