Job
Chapter
34 {Chapters 32-37: Decision of the Human Judge - Elihu} {Chapter 34: Elihu's 2nd Opinion} {Elihu's 4 Speeches/'Legal Opinions' - 2nd Speech - Chapters 34}
1-2~~Furthermore
Elihu answered and said, 2~~ Listen to me . . . you men of learning.
3~~For
the ear tests/tries words/'doctrinal communications' {dabar}, {Note: RBT says this means the best way to learn is through the audio senses. That plus concentration, under the ministry of God the Holy Spirit is the best way to learn. What Elihu has been hearing has 'tasted bad' to his ears.} 4~~Let us discern for ourselves what is right.
Let
us learn together what . . . {is}
{Verses
5-9: Elihu Explains Job's Inconsistency} although I am right I am considered a liar . . .
though
I am guiltless . . . 7~~What man is like Job {?} . . . who drinks scorn like water? {Note: Principal: a person under evidence testing should not try to vindicate himself - certainly he should not 'blame God'.} 8~~He keeps company with evil doers. He associates/Walks with wicked men.
9~~For
he says, {Note: This sentence could lead the young believers astray. That is doubly bad as Paul elaborates on at length - see the 'law of love' toward unbelievers and 'law of expediency' toward baby believers in Corinthians.}
{Verses
10-15: Elihu Correctly States It is Impossible for Perfect God to Do
Wrong or Sponsor Evil} you men of understanding {sarcasm} . . . far be it from God/'El . . . {to do} evil/wickedness . . . from the Almighty . . . to do wrong . . . 11~~ He repays a man for what he has done. . .
He
brings upon him 'what his conduct deserves'/ 12~~It is unthinkable that God/'El would do wrong . . . that the Almighty would pervert justice. 13~~Who appointed Him over the earth? Who puts Him in charge of the whole world?
14-15~~If
it were His intention/ and He withdrew His life/spirit { ruwach} . . . and His breath/'spark of life' {n@shamah} . . . 15~~ all mankind would perish together . . . and man would return to the dust.
{Verses
16-20: Perfection of God Eliminates Possibility of Criticizing God} 'hear this'/'hear, listen, and obey' {shama`} to the voice of my words/'doctrinal communications' {dabar}. 17``Shall even he who has right govern? And will you condemn him that is most just/righteous? 18``{Is it permissible} to say to a king { melek}, "You are wicked"? Or to princes, "You are ungodly."? 19``How much less to him . . . who 'is not partial to'/'does not respect the persons of' princes . . . nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they {rich and poor} all are the work of His hands. {Note: Principal: All people regardless of class come from the same dust of the earth and are creatures of God. God is NOT a respecter of persons - means that He shows NO partiality between any of His creatures - He judges all of us objectively and fairly and on all of the evidence of the case.}
20``In
'the wink of an eye'/ and the people shall convulse at midnight . . . and pass away. And the mighty shall be caused to depart without strength/hand. 21``For His eyes are upon the Ways of man. And He sees all His steps/goings. 22`` There is no darkness . . . nor 'deep darkness/'shadow of death'
where
the 'evil people'/'workers of iniquity'
23``For
He will not lay upon man more that he should enter into a 'legal case'/judgment with God/'El. 24``He {God} shall break in pieces innumerable mighty men . . . and set others in their place. 25``He knows their works. And He overturns them in the night . . .
so
that they allow themselves to be crushed/ 26-28``He chastens them . . . as wicked men . . . in the open sight of others . . . 27`` because they turned away from Him {reversionism} . . .
and
would not consider any of His Ways . . . {Illustrations of the Righteous Ways of God}
so
that they cause the cry of distress of the needy and he hear the cry of distress of the lowly/humble {`aniy}. 29``When He displays quietness . . . who can then can 'act wickedly'/'make trouble'? And when He hides His face . . . who can then see Him {?} . . . whether . . . {it be done against} a nation . . . or {against} a man only . . . 30`` so that the godless/hypocrite does not reign . . .
lest
the people be ensnared 31-32~~Suppose a man says to God/'El, "I am guilty, but I will offend no more. 32~~ Teach me what I can not see. If I have done wrong, I will not do it again." 33~~Should He {God} then reward you on your terms {?} . . . when you refuse to repent? You must decide not I, so tell me what you know." {Note: What in reality Elihu is saying is, 'you can not make deals with God'. You can not extort God by saying 'I will never do it again'. God's grace by its definition means you can not earn it or deserve it. God deals with you on His terms, not yours.}
{Verses
34-37: Job's Three Friends Are Addressed Sarcastically}
"Wise
men who 'hear me'/ "Job speaks without knowledge.
His
words lack insight {sakal} . . . Oh that Job would be tested to the utmost . . . for speaking like an evil man . . . 37~~
for
to his sin . . . he adds rebellion
scornfully
he claps his hands among us . . . and multiplies his words/'doctrinal communications' {dabar} against God/'El." {Note: So this chapter was the summary of the false viewpoint of Job's three friends in their judging Job.}
